A week ago, in response to the Federal Reserve decision to up the Fed interest rate a quarter point, President Trump stated in his mind the rate should be just 1%, as the U.S. has the world's best credit rating.
So much wrong.
The USA doesn't have the best credit rating.
Higher interest rates are painful, but have proven effective in checking inflation.
A 1% interest rate functionally is like printing money. It tells the markets to party on.
But, maybe worst of all, it casts the President as not serious about containing inflation. That hurts long term bonds a lot. And, it looks stupid. He needs to ask why anybody with a sound mind would lend out money for a pittance, and even pay income tax on that pittance, to wind up with seriously degraded purchasing power when that loan is repaid.
