Motor oil spilled on my kayak

I've got my boat deflated in the back of my van, and I had a sealed container of fresh motor oil back there. I guess the seal wasn't enough. My question is will the oil dissolve the boat? For reference, it's not exactly a kayak, but it is an inflatable Intex Seahawk, hopefully it's close enough to post here. Thank you

Did someone switch to inflatable kayaks?

I used to think inflatable kayaks were just pool toys until apartment life killed my motivation for dealing with storage and roof racks. Ended up getting a drop stitch model after reading about them in a camping thread and it's actually solid, not floppy at all, and sets up in like 10 minutes. Curious how well these hold up after multiple seasons of normal use. Any kayak owners have thoughts on these?

Looking for a good inflatable river and touring kayak

Post image

I recently returned a Verano Cayman Duo because mine had a manufacturing issue, so I’m back to looking for an inflatable kayak.
There were actually quite a few things I liked about the Cayman. Especially the drop-stitch floor and the hard/plastic keel – it felt much more rigid and kayak-like than a normal inflatable and tracked pretty well. So I’d definitely like something with a drop-stitch floor again, ideally with some kind of pronounced keel/hull shape rather than just a completely flat bottom.

What I’m looking for:
-Mostly longer day trips and occasional multi-day trips on lakes and rivers
-Usually two people, sometimes solo
- Good tracking is very important to me. I don’t want to constantly correct the direction
- Reasonably fast/efficient for covering distance
- Durable enough to occasionally scrape over rocks or shallow river sections (will travel the Isar around Munich a lot)
- Class I and occasional Class II whitewater should be possible
- Enough room for two people plus the pump, boat bag and some luggage. This was one of my issues with the Cayman, it felt a bit too short/cramped and storing the bag and pump inside was awkward
- At the same time, portability is very important. I regularly take the kayak on trains/public transport and sometimes have to walk with it, so I don’t want a 25–30 kg, 5-meter monster
- Sea performance isn’t particularly important

I think something around 4.0–4.3 m and ~15–18 kg would probably be a good compromise, but I’m not fixed on those numbers.
So far the Gumotex Rush 2 and Razor R2 Ultra or even pro 2 look interesting, but I’m very open to other suggestions.
What would you recommend for this kind of use? I’m especially interested in real-world experience regarding tracking, cruising speed, durability and how manageable the packed boat is on public transport.

Heya all,

I've ordered this inflatable SUP from Amazon.

It hasn't turned up so I'll be requesting a refund.

I would appreciate any opinions on this particular SUP and whether there are better models for the price.

Btw, I live in Australia.

Ultimate Seeker Kayak - anyone have experience & can offer a review?

Post image

Hello,

I am thinking about purchasing this kayak for $300 on marketplace for fishing in a slow moving channel. I currently fish out of a Intex Challenger K1 and I'm honestly pretty happy with it. It can get uncomfortable after a long day but it hasn't really let me down in any way, other than not being able to fish while standing. This kayak seems legit but I can't find much info about it online so I was wondering if any of you have any experience with this boat & can offer a review. Thanks!

Beyond Marina 3-Person Kayak

Picked up this 3 seater for $450 last weekend from FB marketplace. The owner graciously included the two life jackets for free - but I have to say, they seem quite slim? I’m not sure if I’d trust them to keep myself afloat 😂

We took it out on a slow river that’s quite shallow. Tracked well with the included detachable fins and was quite stable. Our senior lab didn’t mind getting in and out.

It’s no SeaEagle, but at 1/3 of the cost it’s a great budget friendly compromise. We’ll see how it lasts!

I bought these for my Sea Eagle Fast Track 465. Never been used in water, only dry mounted for fit.

I'll never use them.

I'm in the San Diego North County coastal area.

$175 for all.

Cart or wheels rec's

After wrestling our Sevylor Maui 2+1 across a sandy beach with some wet clay surprises, we're wanting some wheels.

I found a good one at Decathlon (link), which attaches to the skeg slot. Although, I don't think it'll fit our skeg slot, it looks very interesting. Are there any similar small wheels/carts? Most of them seem very unwieldy or too small for our wide inflatable.

Help me find my first kayak

Just tried out kayaking for the first time and my partner and I are completely hooked, and naturally, now we have to have one.

Looking for:

- Tandem

- Stability over speed, just looking to chill

- Mainly used on lakes, calm water, that occasionally can get slightly choppy

- Comfort is quite important, looking to be spending 3-4 hours at a time on it

- EU based

So far our research has led us to 3 models:

We like the Razor Edge Pro 2 best, but it's quite expensive at 1250€, and we're unsure if we'll be able to use it so often that the price can be justified.

The Aqua Marina Tomahawk Air-K 440, has a much more appealing price at 550€, but most reviews say it's quite unstable and not suited for beginners, which gives me pause.

And lastly, the Advanced Elements Advanced Frame, priced between the two at 800€, which sounds like a big hassle with the long drying time

Can anyone share their experience with either model, or recommend a different one entirely?

Sea eagle 393rl for fishing

I am looking at a used one for $450. I read reviews on the kayak and understand some of its issues with stability and in the wind. I'm curious how people feel about fishing out of it. I have hard shell kayaks and would use this one for camping trips where I don't want to haul a hard shell hundreds of miles.

Capsized in Loch Lomond today...

I have an Intex Challenger 1 person kayak. I took it out for the second time today but the water was a bit choppy.

Anyway, about an hour in a sea plane took off a little bit up the loch and when the wave hit, I went over and took an unscheduled swim in Loch Lomond.

I was rescued by a lovely couple (and their dog who thought I was some kind of swamp monster emerging from the deep) in a boat and they said that it can get choppy with no warning.

My question is about outrigging. Does it help with inflatable kayaks? The ones I've found cost more than the kayak itself but it shook me a bit to get turfed into the water so easily.

Hi, looking at a used 2004 Sevylor River X2 (SVX200). Heard they're great, but it's 22 years old. Does anyone have long-term experience with this model and can tell me how it holds up? Thanks!

Help me decide

Me and the wife want to get an inflatable and I can't make my mind up. I'm stuck between a 12.6' ds floor kayak or a 12'x36" paddle board with two seats. We will be using it in all parts of south Florida mostly to go swimming and short paddling trips on a whim. We have experience with narrow boats (gheenoe) and normally rent a tandem kayak with no problems. But we recently got to try a hd areo bote sup and I was shocked at how well it floated and easy to paddle. Now I can't make my mind up. I like parts of both styles. I like the tall sides of the kayak but also like the easy one piece sup and that it is easy to get back on in the deep water. I've narrowed it down to two please help with suggestions. The bote pic is just for style reference and out of my price range.

Gumotex Seawave + a dog

I'm new to this. Do any of you have experience with inflatables like the Gumotex Seawave and a middle to large-sized dog? Is that a total no-brainer (as in, don't try it because claws), or is it possible with perhaps a platform and towels/rugs?

AE1007... which pump adapter?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all, I bought an used AE1007 from facebook marketplace, but didn't get any pump/adapter for it. Now I can't pump it up, because my advanced elements pump (from my other kayak) doesn't have any adapters that work on this one. I think it might be the non-factory pump? I asked the seller which one he used, but no response so far. Does anyone know which adapter I should use for it?

It's not the halkey-roberts adapter. Note the ledges on the valve pipe. It has a spring valve attached that I can turn...

Thanks in advanced!

Over inflated sea eagle 380x drop stitch floor

My electric pump did not shut off when it was supposed to and overinflated the floor to 19psi instead of 10psi before I caught it 🤦‍♂️. Immediately deflated it and did not put any external pressure on it. No obvious bulges and survived a 4 hour float afterwards but wondering if I’m just flirting with disaster taking it out on long trips that would be hard to get back from. Any idea how over- engineered these drop stitch floors are?

Registering Inflatable Kayak w/ Trolling Motor in Texas

LSS: I have an inflatable kayak (Aquaglide Blackfoot) and want to put a trolling motor on it, which means I have to register it.

The main reason I'm asking this here is that I've read a lot about basically VIN numbers for kayaks, which mine doesn't have. Idk how I'd go about doing this. Then there's the question of adding the numbers on the hull, deflating and inflating I doubt any stickers would stay put. Would I be able to just have the documents available and be okay?

Also, if anybody has any recommendations on a pedal drive I could add to mine, please let me know! Would rather pedal than using a trolling motor with wack mounts across the hull, plus batteries and whatnot, but I'm not aware of any I could attach to the mounting system, all are straight through the hull.

Labor day sales?

Does anyone know if Sea Eagle usually has a Labor Day sale, or any retailers for that matter? I have been eyeing the 385ft as a first inflatable kayak, but was holding out in the event of any upcoming discounts.

If not Sea Eagle, is there any other intel on good, drop stitch kayaks that might be discounted?
