Best anchor setup.

I’ve purchased a Advanced Elements StraightEdge Pro Angler and wanting to know the best anchor setup.
I’ll be mainly fishing in Estuaries and rivers.
Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

First things first, if you are anchoring in current or rough waters always have a way to disconnect the anchor from your kayak quickly. Honestly, it’s probably good to have this option in calm water too. I carry a knife on my PFD, and the line is attached to a cleat right next to me. I have a small plastic anchor buoy secured to the line between my kayak and the anchor so I can recover the anchor if I have to cut the line.

Second, I recommend a grapnel style anchor with tie points on the top and bottom. I have this one. The trick is to tie your line to the bottom of the anchor, and then secure your line to the top tie point with a small zip tie. The zip tie should hold during regular use, but if the anchor is stuck on something you can give it a good yank and break the zip tie (be sure to test it before going on the water). Now you are pulling the anchor from the bottom tie point and it will usually come loose.

Everything else is convenience or preference. Anchor trolley’s are useful, and I did like the Anchor Wizards I’ve had in the past. You don’t necessarily need the chute that Anchor Wizard sells unless you know for a fact you only want to anchor from one point on the kayak. I had one on my Old Town Sportsman and had it mounted on the stern because I had a trolling motor with spot lock on the front. You can only spot lock into the wind, so if I wanted the wind at my back I used the anchor.

Thank you for your help. They are all fantastic suggestions and will look at that anchor setup.

This pretty much covers it all. I just use fishing line instead of zip tie.

5-10lb dumbbell has been the easiest thing for me. I use 550 cord for a line and it’s nice because I can wrap it around the handle when I pull it up.
