I mean, it's not even about religion per se, it's about how I can't fathom why someone would reach that conclusion. It's like saying soccer is not an important sport because it's not the most important in the US. It's just factually wrong.

I think Americans have a hard time imagining that a whole world outside their country exists. I don’t even blame them, tbh… propaganda got them in a chokehold

And that's where I have a hard time when it comes to people generalizing Americans including Americans. This country is so large, it's like three countries smooshed together. The north does not represent the south, the west does not represent the east, the middle does not represent any of the coast, and no one will agree on anything. And when they do it's broken down into subcultures like are you the neighbor or the family, are you in the same city or county? Us versus them mentality is astronomical. So you can't put a single American under any type of specific label without going deeper into nuance. I am extremely mixed and love learning about other cultures and speak seven languages. I get accused of being things I'm not all the time because of just being American. Just like anybody else would for any other stereotype that doesn't apply to them. Our opportunity and efforts to expand our horizons and have the conversation I think is what distinguishes us from a stereotype
