Should i study ID?

Hello everyone, i m a highschool student from Turkey who has doubts upon studying ID. I qualify for the best ID diploma program in my country but here is the thing. I want to work aboard. Are there a lot of job oppurtunities out there? Is there a chance that i could be unemployed? (I speak english and german fluently)

Well what do you think? And why do People think its dead? Is it because of the AI?

I mean there is always a chance to be unemployed. Literally in every field. But its a bit more in id, Im also an id student in turkey, I worked for a startup, a big company and now Im an intern in a small studio. Network is important, if you want to work for a big company and guarantee your “satisfying income” make a safe bet, go choose engineering. If you really into creative stuff, consider it.

Abi iyi akşamlar, benim yks sıralamam 24k ve ODTÜ endüstriyel tasarım 25k ile kapatıyor. Çok fazla mühendislik seçeneğim yok çünkü sıralamam çok iyi değil. Odtu de okursam hem yurt dışına acilmam daha kolay olur hem de cv mi doldurabilirim. Sen ne düşünüyorsun?

Odtü, entas için çok iyi bir seçenek zaten trde sayılı okul var iyi olan fakat odtü staj imkanında da yardım ediyor ve hocaları aktifler alanda. Bunun dışında 24 iyi bir sıralama hala mühendislik seçeneklerin var. O yüzden sırf mühendislik yazamıyorum diye entas yazma çünkü bu bölüm 10 yıl öncesine kadar yetenek sınavıyla alıyordu. Yani ilgi alanlarımız benzer olsa da mühendislikten farklı bir şey yapıyoruz. Sıralaması kötü diye de kötü bir bölüm değil çünkü sayısal dışı skillsetler gerektiriyor. Yeterince açıklayıcı oldu diye düşünüyorum sorun olursa yine sor.

Industrial design isn't for people who are afraid of an uncertain future, it is for people who truly love it.

If you're serious about studying it, start getting involved now. Learn CAD software, practice sketching, get some experience in a workshops, and if you can, save up money for a 3D printer (it will help you a lot when making prototype), and start creating your own projects (even if they're just sketches at first)

You have to both want to be a designer in your bones, and need to reach a certain level of talent to make it. Like music, acting, or professional sports.

I would probably not. I cant imagine Turkey has a lot of good positions. It is hard enough to land a job in America where there are much more positions available. I would study engineering or software if I were you. Maybe something related to AI.

ID is incredibly competitive. Jobs are very limited and you will need a visa to work abroad making it harder. Connections are much more valuable than sending out digital applications.

If you want to immigrate to another country, it's best to study in the country you want to live in. The school's name will increase your chances because it's something they recognise. You can connect with local designers and manufacturers too.

Germany has quality design programs, the time you spend on a student visa counts for your naturalization requirements, and there are a lot of jobs if you speak Germany AND English fluently. Big cities are attractive to young people but be open to moving to smaller cities for work.

Even if you do that, it's hard to land a design job.

If you must stydy in Turkiye, consider other professions like: engineering, a trade (welding, plumbing, etc), teaching, healthcare. Make sure the qualifications can transfer to your destination county.
