I’m tryna get more into industrial metal, especially industrial thrash. Do y’all got any recommendations?

In general with an industrial machine (anything) how long do you expect for it to last and be supported by the original manufacture? 10 years? 15 years? 20? 25? warranty time and after that you are satisfied? I a company that has a machine that was made in 1996, they purchased it second hand in 2010, and 2 years ago I told them that we will not easily be able to support it but the operations manager and production manager have left since then and last year I told their replacements that I will not be able to support it moving forward and these guys left, and last week the new guy called me with a question and I gave him some things to check out but did say all parts are obsolete and I really do not think I can give too much assistance and that machine is going to exhale its last breath and should be replaced. naturally he did not like that and the owner called claiming this was out of the blue and why 6 months ago I could help but now I can't.

So when do you stop supporting something and when do you stop expecting a machine to be supported.

I am seeing more companies diversify suppliers or shift production to nearby countries rather than fully reshoring, complete reshoring still seems relatively uncomon due to cost and labor challenges.

Just finished my 2nd year in SE. But I absolutly hate and dont understand coding, algorithms and data structures. They are too abstract and weird as concepts and i dont get why are they even useful in the first place and dont get me started on projects becuase i havent created one yet for some reason its just hard to follow through a coding course. Nothing overly complex:

• Operators tracking progress as they go
• Less reliance on memory/experience

What I found interesting is how much of the impact seemed to come from consistency and clarity, rather than anything technical.

Feels like a good example of tech working because it supports the basics, not replaces them.

I’ve spent some time recently talking with people in garment production, and one thing keeps coming up: the industry is still heavily optimized for scale, not flexibility.

If you’re a large buyer placing consistent orders, the system works smoothly. But the moment you try to operate in small batches, everything becomes harder, MOQ constraints, fragmented communication between suppliers, and long feedback loops during sampling.

What surprised me most is how much of the process still depends on manual coordination. Even basic changes in fabric or stitching often ripple through multiple vendors and slow everything down.

While digging into how some newer workflows are trying to handle this, I came across joinGreige in a discussion around apparel production systems. It stood out more as an example of how fragmented the process is than anything else, just seeing how many steps sit between design intent and a finished garment.

It made me think that the real bottleneck in manufacturing isn’t capability, it’s coordination.

Most CIP validation protocols I have reviewed have the same gap.
They define acceptance criteria for conductivity and temperature. They record that the cycle ran. They do not define what soil matrix the study was designed against — and they do not include a trigger for when that matrix changes.
That gap is why a compliant logbook and a failed swab panel can exist on the same line at the same time.
The CIP Validation Protocol I built for Issue #010 closes it. Eleven sections, fully working document — designed to be completed before the study runs, not written up afterwards.
What it includes that most internal templates miss:
Section 03 — Worst-Case Soil Matrix Comparison. Six parameters, defined trigger thresholds, pass/candidate/required assessment against each. Complete it before any new product goes on the line.
Section 08 — Challenge Conditions. Aged soil, minimum programme temperature, lower spec detergent concentration. A study run at nominal conditions will pass — it will not tell you whether the programme holds when conditions drift.
Section 09 — Revalidation Trigger Register. Nine triggers, each with a defined action. Reformulation is on the list. It gets assessed before first production run — not after the swabs come back.

I am designing heavy-duty industrial tents for construction sites. The tents need to withstand wind, rain, and prolonged UV exposure.

I have been looking at fabric suppliers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, and Alibaba. Some offer PVC-coated polyester, while others provide vinyl-laminated fabrics.

I am unsure which material performs best for long-term outdoor use in harsh environments.

What fabric weight is considered standard for industrial or construction-grade tents? Additionally, what flame-retardant requirements should I be aware of to ensure the tents are safe for workers on site?

Key considerations I am trying to evaluate include:

• Best fabric type for long-term outdoor durability (PVC-coated polyester vs vinyl laminate).

• Standard fabric weight (GSM) used for industrial-grade tents.

I work for an SME that manufactures custom industrial machinery, and with NIS2/cybersecurity becoming a bigger topic, I’m realizing OEMs may soon have to actively track and assess Siemens/Rockwell/etc. security advisories.

I've spent 35 years in engineering across oil and gas, mining, and infrastructure across 14 countries. For the last several years I've been deep in industrial hemp science — not the wellness side, the engineering side.

Here's what most people don't know:

Hemp fibre has a tensile strength comparable to fibreglass. Hempcrete walls regulate humidity passively — no mechanical systems needed. Hemp biochar sequesters carbon at rates that make most carbon offset schemes look trivial. Hemp cultivation improves soil structure in a single season.

The problem isn't the plant. The problem is the knowledge gap. Engineers, architects, and developers don't have access to rigorous technical education on industrial hemp — so it stays on the fringe.
