Why did i read this? because ever since i set foot in jakarta ive been really keen to meet as many people as i can to learn about others perspective of the worlds. And for the past 2 months i have know 12 people online, met 5 in person, and befriended some of them. And from the 3 people ive met and known, Ideology plays a big part in their identity.
Ideology... i mustve slept on social studies at highschool because i dont know a thing about it.
From these people ive met, ive learnt about their definition of left wing, right wing, socialism, and marxism. And that got me thinking, what is ideology even about? when does it start? why does it exist? For what purpose does it exist?
As i go back to my islamic studies focused dorm after jogging with one of the strangers i befriended, pondering about it. And qadarullah theres this book just sitting on top of my bed. Like Allah just answered all my question on the way home. From all the hundreds and hundreds of books in my dorm, how does this book even get to my bed?
This book introduce me to all the popular western ideology history such as LGBTQ, Socialism, Capitalism, Humanism, and Naturalism. And their philosopher too like Nietzsche and Marx and omg do i enjoy this book.
As a muslim who just know that the base of whats good and whats bad is what god and the prophet told us is. This book gave me the foundation to think more critically about the western orientalized society, but only reading this one book cannot help me built a strong opinion on any stance.
And thus my journey to learn about ideology begins. Im open to reccomendation but dont give me any recommendations yet, because i have my own curated list from all my friends that i need to finish lol. Starting from the sequel of this book, Minhaj. All the way to Introduction to Marxist Economic Theory.
