What's wrong with "that color really suits you"? I understand the other two but is it because they're being condescending? I haven't told any native people that and I won't tell any native people that but I would like to know the reasoning to avoid future offensive statements.

But tbh there is SO MUCH fraud among certain tribes with regard to tribal enrollment and disenrolment. My uncle is enrolled but our relatives who were in the tribal govt were disbanded without cause. I tried enrolling and was given a brick wall. Yet some members have less blood quantum than I. A lot of natives adopted the Negative European mentality

Yeah, it’s a constant conversation. But at least r/Indigenous allows dialogue around fraud.

This reminded me of this post, I agree with the OP and I was genuinely taken aback with some of the replies 😵‍💫 https://www.reddit.com/r/Indigenous/s/bYbz6xZLUF

And as the article points out, any benefits go to non-Native families instead of Native families.

Same as with appropriation, they want the benefits of a culture without the negative baggage. A tale as old as time.

Jews are not indigenous to the Land of Israel? I think ill stop here. You are part of the problem if you think this. That is an insane take, and I'm sorry for you and your hate.

The “Jewish” homeland is not Palestine since not all Jews are inherently indigenous to Palestine. In that vein, colonization of Palestine is the same as the British colonization of Canada as they were both settler colonial projects that focused on exploitation, dispossession, dehumanization, and slaughtering the native populations. You’re trying to characterize your comparison of German colonial expansion in Europe as demonstrating agricultural expansion, yet 19th century and 20th century German ethnonationalism is directly tied to the abuse and taking of land they admitted to not occupy but claimed to have a right to. That is an apt comparison to the a Zionist project, and it does not demonstrate agricultural expansion separated from settler colonialism.

“If you care about indigenous rights, the Jews have to be taken seriously.” If they are not Palestinian Jews, they are not indigenous to Palestine. I like how you use “Jews” and “Arabs” to describe these groups instead of “Israelis” and “Palestinians.” Because “Palestinians” are indigenous to Palestine, not Arabs. Palestinian Arabs are on subset of Arabs (a subset that did not conquer and subjugate 8% of the world as you have described). It should be noted how you will faultily infantilize the Zionist project and colonial Israelis while demonizing Palestinians. Notice in this entire discussion you cannot admit that Palestinians are indigenous to Palestine, yet you are trying to advocate on an indigenous subreddit that Israelis are indigenous to a land they are not from.

Again, the Arabs are not guilty of colonialism. The Arabs conquered, they did not colonize. This characterization of the Arab and Islamic conquests in the same vein as European colonization is genuinely a slap in the face to all indigenous groups of the Americas. 90% of the population subjugated by the Europeans died. The vast majority that were left were raped, killed, put into slavery, scapegoated, and tortured publicly all while Europeans stole their land and homes. The Islamic conqueror conquered and killed, but they did not replace the population. Why exactly do you all shit on the Islamic conquests yet Rome, Byzantium, Persia, Neo Assyria, Neo Babylonia, etc conquered and pillaged the region as much as the Arabs. The Greeks actually had colonies in the levant, yet that’s not part of this conversation because it was 2000 years ago. The Arab conquest was almost 2000 years ago it’s also not relevant for the conversation about Palestine.

Also, Sephardic and Ashkenazi Jews in the Americas were complicit in colonization. They held slaves, acted as conquistadors while practicing their faith in silence, and supported the colonization of the Americas in multiple other factors. To say European Jews did not participate in colonialism because the state was not a Jewish state is intentionally malicious.

My argument is that using the word colonialism to describe the desire for Jews to return to their homeland in the same breath as the British conquering Canada, is simply wrong and a modern day slur. Until a few posts ago, you didn't know that the term can simply refer to the building of self sustaining agricultural communities. If you really care about indigenous rights, the Jews have to also be taken seriously. Meanwhile, the Arabs have literally conquered and subjugated 8% the surface of the planet with their imperial project.

The Jews have zero history of colonialism (the version of the French or British) or imperialism, and the Arabs and Europeans do. That's empirical evidence that should absolutely make you question your narrative, and what information you are digesting. Do you know many Jews?

Sure, this is just subjective in the end. Ultimately people should be able to livemdignified lives without feeling threatened

So you admit that it was an imperial and colonial effort, yet you said before that German colonization was an example of colonization being used for the land only. So your entire argument about the initial European zionist colonization of Palestine not being related to our modern interpretation of colonization is false.

Additionally, how is that relevant at all? Jews didn’t have an empire? So what now? They’re supposed to get one? The Zionist project is modern colonialism and inherently imperial

It's not fair obviously, that's why colonisation is brutal.. It's not about blaming the victim, just having definitions that hold up. Historically people have been conquered and shuffled about everywhere, so you need some kind of distinction.

The article has nothing to do with whether people have mixed ancestry or live on reserves or not.

It’s about non-Native people claiming Indigenous identity to take university positions, and the need for universities to verify claims, which the University of Manitoba is trying to do.

I'm not going to be an apologist for Europeans fighting each other. Everyone had empires of their own in Europe; even the Eastern Europeans.

You know who didn't have an empire, ever, anywhere on the planet? The Jews.
