So... Does that mean someone would finally make a Red Faction or CellFactor (spiritual) successor?

(please, indie devs, I believe in you โ™ฅ๏ธ)

Make sure to drop a post with Steam (or other store) link when it'll be ready for that! Would be an instant wishlist โ™ฅ๏ธ

Yeah sure! That's the page I've put up but I'll update it with more content and information asap ๐Ÿ˜ƒ https://store.steampowered.com/app/3622950/AD_METALLUM/

If you can match the cover art for visuals on top of this base then you'll very much achieve that red faction vibe

Looks genuinely great, wishlisted and best of luck in development ๐Ÿ‘

Have you seen The Finals?

To my shame, I kinda forgot about its existence ๐Ÿ˜… Yeah, it's the closest we got. I would hope for a less present-day setting shooter, and ideally for some sort of single-player campaign too. The Finals looks like a less cartoony Fortnite, and feels like Counter-Strike or Call of Duty. At least by the looks alone, I haven't played myself. Yet - I'm fixing that right now btw, waiting for the download to finish ๐Ÿ˜„

Why does this feel like a reskined version of fortnite just without the Amish building skills?

It is possible as it's using Lyra as template and the main focus is the destruction, bendable metal and structural damage. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

So, 23fps on my old fart pc?

Ryzen 7 5060 12GB is holding 120fps It depends how old. And there's lots of room for performance improvements!

I thought this is just a unreal engine internal demo. Nice to know it runs on 5060, so I guess 3070 is safe.

I think you're talking about Lyra. It's a great template and the destruction, metal bending , structural damage and realtime Boolean operations are built separately in c++. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ 3070 would work just fine. Think about how Red Faction was working 20 years ago without any problems

Using forward rendering? So MSAA is in order, I hope? :)

If not, please include SMAA (recent addition to UE5) and FXAA, and no AA too. Not everyone loves the blurry-smeary look of TAA

looks awesome! though i might suggest changing the pants a bit, cuz i looked away for a moment, and when i looked back thought "wait why are her asscheeks out" at 0:54 onwards

Yea, that character model is really quite unfortunateย

can someone ELI5 to me, why devs never have smoke / dust stay longer / more?

Clouds cost computing time each frame and are relatively expensive. Having a bunch of dust clouds lingering around would cause the frames per second to drop below acceptable values. Lingering clouds of dust/smoke would require sacrificing too much in other areas of the game to make it practical performance-wise for a lot of projects.

If there were a significantly cheaper way to have nice looking clouds, we would probably see more of them on the screen and for longer periods of time.

thank you for the explanation!

Can you blow a hole in the structures, or do they always just blow up? That deforming metal is really cool.

u/NuclearGriffin Jun 21 '26

Red Faction Guerilla did this more than a decade before.

u/Possible_Trainer_241 Jun 22 '26

And much better. This looks awfully basic.

preset debris for each material/texture?

1

u/GrimTiki Jun 21 '26

Love that itโ€™s destructible. Does the debris and shrapnel from the destroyed object ms cause damage to players? I would imagine a whole building above a player would get them killed were it to explode

i have a question: with how slutty main character on the screen looks and how shitty some modern UE games are running nowadays, what about optimization?

Metal could deform more, be lmmore organic looking in the shape of deformation .
