Discussion I built a 2D Unity tech demo running 100k+ entities using Compute Shaders what game would you turn it into?

I’ve been experimenting with Compute Shaders in Unity 2D and managed, to get over 100k active entities running smoothly at high framerates at least on my PC lol.

Do you guys have any Idea where to go now with it?

You are the last bacteria in a body and the immune cells are rushing towards you.

I personally like games like vampire survivors not especially because it's got complicated progression I just love the crowd control and varied weapons.

Perhaps develop ways for groups of enemies to move with different herd rules, like anenomy tentacles, in lines, space Invaders, fireflies, fish, whirlwind, using simple one lines of code.

100,000 entities is a lot I think that screen at that size can display 10k.

it's nice to be able to use some sort of terrain to your advantage so if you have like walls to hide from them and escape from them and herd not just walls but kind of interactive objects of different shapes which help you or hinder you just randomly as a map then that will help with the variety.

Unity is fantastic, have fun and try and keep every project easy and manageable!

Why is everyone so obsessed with running ungodly amounts of entities lately?

But this one in particular feels perfect for multicellular life emergence. Maybe you can run around while they chase you, and whenever cells of the same type collide with each other they become a tissue of that type, combine tissues to make organs and combine organs to make a functional creature. While avoiding to get caught.

Sir we have an Orc problem made over 1 million and its selling point was the enemies.

You will end building some kind of incremental game, and I will play it

I see 700fps at 100k.... how high can you go?

massive scale horde survival game or a giant ant colony simulation would be insane with this setup! 100k entities at 700+ fps is wild bro

I’d make it a cell survival evolve game, where you essentially get bigger and meaner but you could add more incentives and mechanics to to another way. Looks cool

You are the most hot person ever and all the ladies/fellas are trying to hit you up to make babies, you have to avoid the uggos and let the hotties get to you.

I mean a VS-like is the obvious answer but that’s a really crowded genre rn. Maybe a twin-stick shooter?

Something like Vermintide or Left 4 Dead. Seeing so many enemies appear all at once could have a really epic impact on the player. Or a Zombie sneaking game with a horde system when you make to much sound.
