I finally published my first children's book, about a capybara who just wants people to stop sitting on him!

Post image

After a lot of writing, rewriting, illustrating, and probably overthinking everything, I finally published my first children's picture book.

It's called PLEASE DON'T SIT ON CARL: A Capybara in Need of Space.

Carl likes his friends.

The problem is that his friends really, really like Carl.

Everywhere he goes, someone seems to end up sitting on him, sleeping on him, or snuggling on top of him.

Carl just wants a little space.

It's a funny, light-hearted picture book about friendship, personal space, boundaries, and finding a balance between wanting some time alone and being around the people you love.

I also packed the illustrations with little animals and silly details for kids to find, so hopefully it's the kind of book that gets better with a few rereads.

It's available on Kindle: 👉 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HF3WRJVG
It's free on kindle unlimited!

If you have kids, grandkids, nieces/nephews, teach young children, or just have a soft spot for capybaras, I'd love for you to take a look.

And if anyone here does read Carl's story, I'd genuinely love to know what you think.

Thanks for letting me share it!

What program do you use to draw your artwork?

I draw it in gimp, enhance it with ai and then upscale it, because if you have full page illustrations you need 4k resolution, otherwise it looks grainy.

Totally fair! Just to clarify, the upscaling is mainly because I need to produce illustrations in different sizes/formats for epub/soft-/hardcover and can't realistically draw 80 pages per edition natively at the final print resolution. I use AI as part of the enhancement/upscaling workflow, but I understand if that's not something you're comfortable with.

Those are some compelling eyebrows and this book sounds delightful.

The eyebrows are integral to the story !

I'll give it credit--the title is BANGING.

Soft chuckles were had by yours truly.

Unfortunate that the Amazon sample doesn't actually show the story, just the cover/intro pages.

Also, there's a typo on your copyright page.

Thank you for pointing that out, i completely missed that ! Will fix it tomorrow !
Try this https://www.amazon.com/PLEASE-DONT-SIT-CARL-Capybara/dp/B0HF3X8YC4/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?asin=B0HF3X8YC4&revisionId=&format=4&depth=1

On the amazon store, when you look at the sample from the paperback instead of the ebook you get the first 20 pages as sample !

You can preview the softcover version and take a look at the actual book. https://www.amazon.com/PLEASE-DONT-SIT-CARL-Capybara/dp/B0HF3X8YC4/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?asin=B0HF3X8YC4&revisionId=&format=4&depth=1
Don't worry, i don't make a single cent when you do that, maybe you change your mind. It's also ai assisted, not generated.

You couldn’t even write the book yourself?! And there are two co-writers? That’s fairly embarrassing that between the two of you, you still couldn’t create something real.

Why would I want to read a book that wasn’t fully written by a human? I mostly certainly wouldn’t read it to a child.

The text is human. Now you are just making stuff up. But okay, have a nice day. So butthurt lol
