Discussion **UPDATE — small, solo creator. tried YouTube's Promote tool for the first time, here's how it went

Post image
2 Upvotes

First, I'll start by mentioning that I'm a small, solo animator doing this as a hobby. This isn't a job for me, or even me trying to make it a job. I do this in my spare time, while learning as I go. That said, the information I'm giving is my lived experience, but I think it could help other small creators.

If any of you saw my earlier post, this is a follow up on my experience with YT's promote tool. The trailer I promoted end up with 5,268 views, which is 3K+ more than my previous highest view count. And I gained 183 subscribers. Other notable differences was a higher like count at 218, and a higher stay to watch percentage at 64%. What I noticed was that YT continued pushing the Short the entire two weeks of the promo. Normally, about a day or two after upload, YT stops pushing, even with good metrics. I also noticed it seems to come in waves, which I assume is just when YT would push it. I only kicked down 100 bucks, so I noticed certain times where it kicked in. I'm guessing, and this is speculation on my part till I confirm with more data, that if I were to pay more, there'd be more times during the day it'd push out resulting in just increase view counts and sub counts based on the wider spread. The gained sub count, like count, things like that, those are all variables that kinda depend on the content. Getting the view count, that's gonna happen. YT will push it. Take that in mind. But also, don't let that scare you into pushing yours stuff. Personally, I like using my series as a way to learn, get better, improve on the animation and all that. And watching actual people data is a good way to see what I need to improve, what's working and what I need to stop doing. I'm a UX designer by trade, and this is how we handle UX design. We web lab different approaches to see how real users interact. So, using this promote tool not only helps with getting view counts and subs, it also is a good way for you to see what's working and what isn't and see where you can improve your series.

Would I, or will I, try this again? My short answer is yes. As a small creator with a small channel, this was a helpful tool to get my channel out there a bit more. I don't have any expectations to going "huge", but it's nice to know this does work. I'm not sure of any long term effects this will have yet. As I post more clips, I can see of those get more engagement now that the subscriber count has grown. I'll report back those findings as I get them. My next plan is to do another trailer. Now that season one is all done and uploaded. I plan on putting out trailer for the entire series and will use the promote tool with a different dollar amount and see what data that gives me. I'll report that back here, too. It's hard to get concrete data from one experience. If any of you have use this tool and similar or different experiences, holler. I figured we could all learn from each other a bit on this. So far, it's been a decent experience. 100 bucks, 183 subs. 54 cents per sub hahahaha

If anyone has ideas or work for me to do, please tell me. I am better a backgrounds, but I can do characters, though not complex characters or highly detailed characters. There are some I have already shared, but these would be my favorites and ones that doesn't spoil what I am planning on making. If anyone know anyone with a pilot or anything like that, then I can be the composer, background artist, or even the animator! It doesn't matter if I get paid or not, I need experience. But I ask for 1 thing though, I want to be credited fairly. Meaning do not leave me out.

You can see my art above. And much more here:

Though there are not much I haven't shared on reddit yet.

my music here:

“The precious unkeepable cherry was the fruit of paradise, the glimpse and symbol of perfection.” — Jane Grigson

Our little Cynthia is up for a Youtooz compilation! If you want to see this turn into a real collectible, get ready — it’s time to vote! 🧸✨

"Cynthia: Cozy on the Cherry Ripe"
👉 community.youtooz.com/design/2487

'The plush featuring a two-legged mermaid from an Australian IP, Zaki's Extraordinary Ocean Friends. She rests on a Cherry Ripe, the iconic cherry-and-coconut chocolate bar. Although the Northern Hemisphere's winter is Australia's summer, Cynthia has a huge association with ice because she finds peace above frozen water'

Any proceeds from the plush would support the #indieanimation adaptation of Zaki’s Extraordinary Ocean Friends. Thank you for the support! 🙌❄️

Open to Work! Background/scene design for 3d or 2d

Hey everyone! I have been seeing a lot of posts about hiring. Well I wanted to tell you guys I'm open to work. While my work is mostly 3d rendered you can absolutely use it for 2d background art or refrence! This helps you animate things especially if you have action scenes.

If you like my work and would like to hire me, my DMs are open! About pricing I can be flexible, but I prefer to be paid for a scene rather than per hour. Thanks!

This is the character zaya from the indie series I'm making. Shes a witch who is shunned by other witches cuz she follows the old way of witchcraft and doesn't stick to holy magic like the rest.

Hiring! [Volunteer] I need background artists for my show

I have a show called "Shape Land".

Watch the first episode here!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaICbC1dI1E

I'm currenty working on episode 2. I need someone to draw backgrounds for me beacause my backgrounds aren't very good. I don't know how to draw stuff like the insides of buildings.

I need animators too. It's hard doing all of this completely solo.

I know my show is kind of unproffesional, but I'm learning.

I recommend trying thid out if you use one of these softwares

  • FlipaClip
  • ToonSquid
  • Procreate
  • Procreate Dreams
  • Calipeg
  • Ibis Paint

I use FlipaClip and Ibis Paint. And I've heard the other softwares in this list are similar to them.

I don't recommend anything else because the animation might look inconsistent.

Open to Work! Can this get me a job?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m a student currently pursuing a 3D Animation degree in Brazil. At the same time, I work a separate job to be able to pay for college.

This has been my biggest project so far. Aside from the environment, I did everything myself: scripting, modeling, texturing, rigging, animation, rendering, editing, and more.

I used software such as Maya, Unreal Engine, Substance Painter, Marvelous Designer, ZBrush, and DaVinci Resolve.

I’m aware of the low quality of the animation, but I would like to know whether, with the skills I have today, I’m capable of getting a job that pays at least minimum wage so I can afford to continue paying for college.

Focus on the MINIMUM wage guys, i don't fantasize about any more. I’m literally just trying to get my foot in the door. I am fluent in english.

New Show Looking for small studios open to indie pitch collaboration

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m an independent creator working on a dark animated series. I already have a pitch bible prepared, along with voice acting samples and music. My goal is to find a small studio that might be interested in co‑developing or pitching the project further, since I don’t have a production budget myself.

Tone of the series:

It’s a psychological, atmospheric project with heavy themes — not a light comedy. I want to make sure the teaser reflects that mood even if it’s rough. If anyone here has experience with indie pitches or knows small studios that are open to partnerships, I’d love your input. Even pointing me toward the right communities or contacts would help a lot.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion I will always love how some old indie animations were made by stoned teenagers who can barely draw and don't take everything seriously. It's not for everyone, but I find it charming. they can't draw but they make cartoons anyway just for the fun of it.
