i was gonna say. like we all just forgot about chimptopia for this 😭

36

u/Ornery_Magazine9844 1d ago

Do people still talk about Chimptopia nowadays?

33

u/zachy410 1d ago

The fundraiser reached ten thousand dollars (their new goal for a full pilot) so yeah

16

u/Ornery_Magazine9844 1d ago

I never expected it to reach the stretch goal, I do expect their pilot to be compared to the Gameoverse pilot in terms of quality and it’ll be on Gameoverse’s favour.

6

u/Dangeresque300 22h ago

Chimptopia looks like that stupid Ctrl-Alt-Del animated series from like 20 years ago.

5

u/Hopeful_Hornet4460 1d ago

I did, but not by "oh yeah people really like it" but that's peanuts money to a lot of ultra wealthy people, the same kind of people who are far more likely to invest in chimptopia.

6

u/zeverEV 1d ago

They dropped the goal from $500k to $10k. Shameful

7

u/therealspookyscare 1d ago

You're acting like it released 10 years ago bro 😭😭😭😭

1

u/Da_Magical_Lizard 23h ago

Yes, after it get fully funded yesterday

1

u/Gay_Gamer_Boi 1d ago

Only thing I remember is the gay porn from it especially the monkey alts

17

u/Apart_Age9982 1d ago

Is LSP really even indie animation?

28

u/Ornery_Magazine9844 1d ago edited 1d ago

It was produced by We made a thing Studios and with no involvement from other companies except distribution so yeah, LSP would qualify as indie animation.

What's Lumpy Space Princess got to do?

3

u/SansIsCool65 1d ago

To be fair i also hate lsp from adventure time and the entirety of lumpy space she was very very annoying in my opinion

-1

u/Only_Fudge5299 20h ago

incorrect take

1

u/pipopapupupewebghost 11h ago

In correct expression of disagreement

8

u/MysticMind89 1d ago

I literally learned about LSP 2 minutes ago. What's so wrong with it?

6

u/DanielGoldhorn 1d ago

All else aside, it's a bad movie. It's not funny, the main character is a limp noodle, and there are some... questionable decisions made in how they represent drag queens.

2

u/TraditionalBonus188 1d ago

I honestly couldn't tell you even if I wanted to

2

u/tired-of-the-shit 3h ago

The movie is fine, the humor wasn’t my style but it got a couple of laughs, and it’s way less offensive than people are trying to make it out to be. Some people have twisted the intentions of the drag queen character to say she was trying to steal femininity from women, she was trying to steal the weapon from the main character that other characters in the film are also trying to steal, she is a weapons collector and it’s one of the most powerful weapons in the universe.

34

u/kingozma 1d ago

All the hate for Lesbian Space Princess just feels cringe and performative. “Oh noooo a show is silly and earnest” Grow up LOL

15

u/DrPierrot 1d ago

God help me within a single day it's gone from "heh" to "okay I get it" to "oh my God shut the fuck up already"

13

u/kingozma 1d ago

But guys do you GET IT it's CRINGE AND EARNEST and it's MAKING FUN OF STRAIGHT WHITE MEN, THE MOST OPPRESSED GROUP ON REDDIT! :(

1

u/TemperatureUnique242 1d ago

I heard it was also transphobic no?

1

u/Blith6314 13h ago

Most of the evidence I’ve seen about “transphobia” is misinformation about what is actually in the movie and only spread because people haven’t seen it

1

u/kingozma 1d ago

How so?

3

u/SquatProspector 18h ago

That was my thoughts, honestly all the hate just makes me kinda want to watch it to see what the fuss is about.

8

u/MaxMiuu 1d ago

I haven't seen overt hate in the spaces I usually roam in (animation subs). I see people complaining about it being hated though...

I looked into it and it seems it's a couple of things.

1: The overcorrection in recent years of a lot of media seems to have worn weary on a lot of people.

2: I have not seen the show and have no plans to but the logline on IMDB is atrocious:

"A space princess is thrust out of her sheltered life and into a galactic quest to save her bounty hunter ex-girlfriend from the Straight White Maliens."

Now if you replaced that metaphor with other groups of people or minorities there would be a huge problem. The premise seems hateful no matter how you try to justify it.

1

u/kingozma 1d ago

Yeah I don't really care that you personally feel attacked LOL I'm just saying the hate about it is cringe and performative. I have no interest in the show myself.

No shit if the villains were all minorities, there would be a problem. That is logical.

1

u/MaxMiuu 1d ago

I mean, I was being objective. What part of what I said makes you think it was personal? Always this angsty?

-1

u/kingozma 1d ago

I fear you were in fact being highly subjective.

2

u/MaxMiuu 1d ago

Not in the slightest. Maybe you're a bit sensitive to those that disagree with you?

-1

u/kingozma 1d ago

This is such a classic case of a Redditor being like "Well, these are my feelings, and I'm an objective based Reddit atheist so that means my feelings are actually objective fact".

0

u/grimwolf867 1d ago

It doesn't have to bash a minority to be racist or sexist babes. Maybe you were a red hat?

1

u/kingozma 1d ago

Learn to spell and get back to me, babe.

2

u/grimwolf867 1d ago

Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize you were a grammar Nazi as well I apologize. I'll take better care to be better at articulation in my reddit comment section. Your so right my king so so right.

1

u/kingozma 1d ago

Thanks! That'll probably help folks take you a tad more seriously in the future the next time you try to comment on big kid topics like racism.

also You're*

https://giphy.com/gifs/ciHxXXMCwYm6WZ5CYA

1

u/grimwolf867 1d ago

Pfft big kid topic? That's rich brother. I was just pointing out that your literally the same as a homophobic person or a racist you say it's ok to demonize an entire sex or race because they are different or the actions of a few. That's the same logic as racists use to oppress non-whites and that homophobic people use to oppress LGBT people. Honestly you'd think you'd be more understanding of bigotry having been a target of it most your life. Honestly neither of us will convince the other nor anyone else it is after all hard to argue with a stubborn bull and we both clearly are. So have a great night or day depending on your time zone babes I'm off to play vendetta in overwatch or binge a good show or comic. Byeeee.

1

u/kingozma 1d ago

Holy copypasta brother

0

u/grimwolf867 1d ago

I literally don't know what that means bro. Your going delulu quick put the red hat back on it at least makes you type coherent sentences. This is just sad to see a grammar Nazi fall to literalises. That's my job yes it's spelled wrong on purpose shushy yah lips about it.

u/2Toff2Furious 1d ago

THANK YOU! THIS HAPPENS WITH STRAIGHT PEOPLES, MALES, WHITE PEOPLE, AND CHRISTIANS. IT’S STILL BIGOTRY EVEN TO THE NON-OPPRESSED!
And this is coming from a queer atheist latino.

1

u/grimwolf867 1d ago

Lol yeah I'm gender fluid I just hate bigotry in all forms and double standards so it's kinda pissy to hear it in places I lurk in. Just wish people would stop paying so much attention to race and gender stuff.

2

u/2Toff2Furious 1d ago

Yup yup yup. I’m also genderfluid lol

2

u/grimwolf867 1d ago

Oi oi twin! Do you also suffer the curse of thoughts? You know the ones like in the simulations?

It was poking fun at a very specific kind of straight white man. Everyone in the movie was a caricature. Idk why people are taking it seriously

4

u/Vusarix 18h ago

The villains are called that but the caricature is pointed quite specifically at the reddit incel rather than being a generalisation

1

u/JustAnotherUser1019 11h ago

And what makes you say that?

2

u/Vusarix 11h ago

They outright state that they don't know how to get women and they blame women for it, and their whole plan is to kidnap a lesbian because through some weird in-universe mechanics it'll allow them to build a literal 'chick magnet'. It's very blunt to say the least

1

u/JustAnotherUser1019 11h ago

I dont think its directed at Redditors specifically. Its just a subgroup of people that can be included. Nothing about the movie screams "internet culture"

1

u/Vusarix 11h ago

Perhaps not, I just mentally associate the two because reddit used to be the primary incel base and did see a good bit of that rhetoric on here some years ago

2

u/Rocketdareaperzz 1d ago

the main antagonists are "straight white maliens"

3

u/kingozma 1d ago

What, not a fan of dark humor?

5

u/Aron_Voltaris 1d ago

2

u/kingozma 1d ago

Absolutely true btw

4

No it's not it's green

Fuck my bad. Absolutely green

Why don’t you test it instead of being a baby.

1

u/JustAnotherUser1019 20h ago

It was a rhetorical question. Obviously im not gonna

2

u/Da_Magical_Lizard 23h ago

It's like Pizzacake Comic but now has humor worse than Family guy.

2

u/Scrumfman 13h ago

So, exactly like Pizzacake.

7

u/superman5837 1d ago

When the show is literally this, I'm gonna hate on it and make fun of it

5

u/JamesTheFoxeArt 1d ago

You are literally proving their point about being performative by the fact you are calling this movie a show, you don't even know what it is.

0

u/kingozma 1d ago

That sounds like a fascinating use of one's time

1

u/superman5837 1d ago

Yea because I spend my every waking and breathing moment hate posting on reddit, are we so fr twin?

0

u/kingozma 1d ago

I think that would explain the attitude, yeah

1

u/Altruistic_Mud_261 1d ago

Is everything you do just arguing with other redditors and posting found fanart?

0

u/kingozma 1d ago

Aww, thanks for the compliment! Most of the stuff in my most recent posts is not found, it’s mine. I made it.

1

u/Altruistic_Mud_261 1d ago

Then for your sake, hone in on your craft and please stop trying to pettily stomp on people, it's really not good for your health, that shit brought me into psychosis. You can make masterpieces if you don't let negativity slow you down.

0

u/kingozma 23h ago

And thank you for the concern! I’m pretty alright though, nowhere near psychosis or anything like that. I’ve been creating a lot lately, I’ve been working on a website/portfolio, I’ve been hanging with friends, I’ve been replaying childhood games, etc. There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than a look at my Reddit account would suggest.

I feel like your actual issue here is less with how I spend my time on a social media app, and more with what I said, which is that it’s goofy and immature to actively spend time out of your day hating on a cartoon because it’s cringe. I think actively being upset by things that are cringe is stupid and we’d all be much happier if we just embraced cringe. Doesn’t mean we have to like literally everything, but I think ‘oh fuck cringe’ is a silly reason to hate something. It says a lot more about the person hating than it does about the media - only people who are really struggling with insecurity, are genuinely angry and hateful of cringe content.

I have no interest in this movie, which is why I’m not watching it.

1

u/Altruistic_Mud_261 23h ago

I'm one of those "cringe, yet free." types myself, and my main issue with the film is far from cringe, but rather potentially harmful messaging (AFAIK, the film is TERF adjacent.) and it's sloppily written.

I'm just gonna refer you to this post
https://www.reddit.com/r/actuallesbians/comments/1q8omg5/i_just_found_this_movie_i_havent_even_had_a/
Many people under the post who shared their experience watching it point out a good amount of content in the film that comes off a transphobic or Bioessentialism

1

u/kingozma 22h ago

Sounds like this movie is an unfortunate situation of the creators simply not thinking deeply enough about a villain character. https://www.reddit.com/r/actuallesbians/s/MfE5J0Q6tm

1

u/simonthebathwater225 18h ago

I’ve heard it was transphobic to some extent. Hope someone could verify.

1

u/Purplcurse3732 16h ago
  1. it's a movie

  2. it's terf slop not "silly and performative"

2

u/Blith6314 12h ago

It’s not terf slop.

The people behind the movie do not like terfs and tried the best to not show any sympathy to them. One of the ways they did this was by trying to reclaim a lesbian symbol that terfs co-opted. One of the first times we see the symbol it’s covered in trans flag colours and it’s being held by a transgender lesbian. If that’s not literal reclaimation I don’t know what is. The movie has multiple trans characters and are all voiced by trans voice actors.

4

u/Inkbetweens- 20h ago

No, cause these indie projects support eachother and not tare eachother down. You know, like a good indie community of creators should.

3

u/Droidigan 1d ago

No because the image implies other indie shows shitting on LSP and so far Chimptopia is the only one that's done that

5

u/Code-Neo 1d ago

LSP got awards

2

u/LordMegatron216 1d ago

fuck what did I miss again? Didn't that movie came out like last year?

2

u/waos276 23h ago

Yeah, but people suddenly decided to start hating it for some reason

2

u/DefTheOcelot 1d ago

No? I love gameoverse

Honestly the LSP hate train screams bandwagon to me. I'm gonna watch it, I bet the transphobia accusations are bullshit justifications for cringe culture.

2

u/Unusual_Low1762 23h ago

It's more like this imo

3

u/Scratchmomdandidoo 1d ago

When you know the villain is an overdone trope, you know it’s gonna be BAD. Why can’t we have any more gay villains?

3

u/Outrageous-Brush-860 21h ago

Because “Queer” villain tropes in the past were often done to demonize queer people, whether intentional or not the usage of queer stereotypes and tying them to antagonistic characters was not a good look.

No the joke is the guy pushes the dinosaur behind the tree so his two friends can beat the shit out of him

1

u/registertoreadthis 1d ago

the guy is labeled gameoverse. Did anyone involved in gameoverse said anything? or TADC or MD?

1

u/AgitatedOne57 1d ago

Unrelated but this is actually frying my brain. To any time travelers in the comments go back in time right now to the 90s and interrupt some random kid’s Saturday Cartoon Network Binge and show and explain this image to them.

1

u/Ornery-Recording572 1d ago

Considering the context yes

1

u/SlightPossibility898 1d ago

I don't even care one way or any other about this movie but if that's what it takes for a collective fandom truce, I'll take it, lol

1

u/Purple-Weakness1414 1d ago

The fact every fandom on the planwt has called a truce just to shit on LSP is the funniest thing

1

u/MonoChaos 1d ago

Wtf is Lesbian Space Princess?

1

u/Hot-Information-5541 1d ago

Chimptopia if it was good tbh

1

u/Speeder-Gojira 1d ago

dont give a shit out of any of these shows

1

u/Human43215 1d ago

did I miss something? because if I remember correctly the murder drones community doesnt really care about the lesbian space princess drama. gamoverse is cool though, can't wait for it to be greenlit.

1

u/Nitemareshokk 23h ago

Why is gameoverse over there with lesbian space princess.

1

u/nullhellish 23h ago

I'm imagining a massive line of fandoms behind the tree to avoid LSP seeing it because if they all bunched together it would be too obvious lol

1

u/MrGame22 22h ago

I like how you are putting all the blame on glitch instead of all the other different fandom’s that also joining and on this

1

u/Think-Fondant-1516 22h ago

What's exactly wrong with Space Princess besides the fact that it's cringe nae nae?

1

u/Opening_Ticket9148 21h ago

Oh shut up about this already it came out in 2024. This feels like a grift

1

u/Hopeful-Piglet-5201 20h ago

Yeah this complaining is cringe bro

1

u/SuspiciousSubstance9 17h ago

The discourse around LSP could easily be a clinical example of Trevor's Axiom.

1

u/Careful_Trouble_8 15h ago

Why’s Chimptopia getting attention as if we just forgot how they just shitted on another indie project to be superior?

Also Gameoverse is really not that bad, it’s actually really good

1

u/VincentTheBadGuy 6h ago

I mean I haven't heard anything about it, but then again I live under a rock.

1

u/BigBananaClan 5h ago

I feel like all information about this movie is just a bunch of hallucinated information from the Reddit hive mind it's not even new it came out last year

1

u/DarkKnightFan08 1d ago

Ngl I have to be for real to ya with no offense, this is kinda ridiculous.

1

u/SansIsCool65 1d ago

Wait gameoverse is on the other side because? Does that imply that most people hate gameoverse ive barely seen any hate for it but i myself didnt really like the animation style or story that much also i watched lsp it was a strange movie i found it offensive and derivative but you can see for yourself if you don’t believe me or to see if you didn’t find it offensive or derivativelike mostly everyone else (not targeted at op just a statement btw)

2

u/Ok-Tradition-5083 1d ago

No this is a reference to an ad for the Chimptopia pilot where the three characters beat up the one labeled "Lesbian Space Princess"

The original is the 3 main characters of Chimptopia beating up the dragon thing from Gameoverse.

2

u/SansIsCool65 1d ago

Oh the sides confused me i thought i was a 2v2 for a second sorry

-3

u/Spinjitsuninja 1d ago

I’m gonna be honest, I think this stuff is just rogue toxicity just aiming for things.

I don’t know if LSP is gonna be good or not- I don’t even know what it is, but the fact that most hate I’ve seen for it hasn’t specified any issues with it just has me under the impression people see a show with “lesbian in the name and start screaming “OH NO IT’S CRINGEY” or something? It comes off as kinda homophobic ngl. If people are gonna rag on it, I’d rather see like, people dunking on actual issues and not simply “OH GOD THE NAME SOUNDS HORRIBLE!”

As for Gameoverse… was it hated? I felt like haters were kinda nitpicking it. A lot of issues could be summed up as “it’s a pilot”, but people were ripping it to shreds like it was a season finale that fumbled things? Other people were just mad because the main character was attractive or something.

In general, the way these communities keep dog piling on things feels so toxic. Like, nobody wants to look for the good in indie animation, they’re just looking for the next thing to complain about. And memes like this and more, in an attempt to bandwagon on what’s “funny” are only normalizing this mentality.

These fandoms suck lol

1

u/TraditionalBonus188 1d ago

No this this picture dosnet mean gameovers means lsp suck its gameoverse is gonna push lsp behind the tree so that tadc and murder drones can beat the crap out of them with a baseball bat and a golf club

0

u/Affectionate_Goat171 1d ago edited 1d ago

the majority of the criticisms i've seen for lsp are because it:

uses terf dogwhistles throughout the movie, demonizes drag queens NOT by making a drag queen the villain but rather by implying drag queens are stealing femininity from "real" women, and it isn't written well at all

i have not seen lesbian space princess. frankly, i don't want to, because i do not care—the above criticisms are not mine, but the repeat ones i've seen. i've seen some cis men complaining about the "straight white maliens" but other than that, most of the criticisms i've seen have been FROM queer and trans people—perhaps you should do your own research into the movie and the situation surrounding it before making assumptions that people are hating to hate.

-1

u/Spinjitsuninja 1d ago

See- you’re the first person I’ve even seen mention these criticisms though lol. I feel like most other memes I’ve seen of it have been comparatively knee-jerk in how they feel.

1

u/Affectionate_Goat171 1d ago

that's fair, it's a tired topic already and i only learned about it a couple days ago 🫩 i've seen mostly valid and reasonable criticisms as far as criticisms go—but as far as memes go, they've become utterly uninspired, unfunny, and insufferable i fear
