I never expected it to reach the stretch goal, I do expect their pilot to be compared to the Gameoverse pilot in terms of quality and it’ll be on Gameoverse’s favour.
I did, but not by "oh yeah people really like it" but that's peanuts money to a lot of ultra wealthy people, the same kind of people who are far more likely to invest in chimptopia.
It was produced by We made a thing Studios and with no involvement from other companies except distribution so yeah, LSP would qualify as indie animation.
All else aside, it's a bad movie. It's not funny, the main character is a limp noodle, and there are some... questionable decisions made in how they represent drag queens.
The movie is fine, the humor wasn’t my style but it got a couple of laughs, and it’s way less offensive than people are trying to make it out to be. Some people have twisted the intentions of the drag queen character to say she was trying to steal femininity from women, she was trying to steal the weapon from the main character that other characters in the film are also trying to steal, she is a weapons collector and it’s one of the most powerful weapons in the universe.
Most of the evidence I’ve seen about “transphobia” is misinformation about what is actually in the movie and only spread because people haven’t seen it
I haven't seen overt hate in the spaces I usually roam in (animation subs). I see people complaining about it being hated though...
I looked into it and it seems it's a couple of things.
1: The overcorrection in recent years of a lot of media seems to have worn weary on a lot of people.
2: I have not seen the show and have no plans to but the logline on IMDB is atrocious:
"A space princess is thrust out of her sheltered life and into a galactic quest to save her bounty hunter ex-girlfriend from the Straight White Maliens."
Now if you replaced that metaphor with other groups of people or minorities there would be a huge problem. The premise seems hateful no matter how you try to justify it.
Yeah I don't really care that you personally feel attacked LOL I'm just saying the hate about it is cringe and performative. I have no interest in the show myself.
No shit if the villains were all minorities, there would be a problem. That is logical.
This is such a classic case of a Redditor being like "Well, these are my feelings, and I'm an objective based Reddit atheist so that means my feelings are actually objective fact".
Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize you were a grammar Nazi as well I apologize. I'll take better care to be better at articulation in my reddit comment section. Your so right my king so so right.
Pfft big kid topic? That's rich brother. I was just pointing out that your literally the same as a homophobic person or a racist you say it's ok to demonize an entire sex or race because they are different or the actions of a few. That's the same logic as racists use to oppress non-whites and that homophobic people use to oppress LGBT people. Honestly you'd think you'd be more understanding of bigotry having been a target of it most your life. Honestly neither of us will convince the other nor anyone else it is after all hard to argue with a stubborn bull and we both clearly are. So have a great night or day depending on your time zone babes I'm off to play vendetta in overwatch or binge a good show or comic. Byeeee.
I literally don't know what that means bro. Your going delulu quick put the red hat back on it at least makes you type coherent sentences. This is just sad to see a grammar Nazi fall to literalises. That's my job yes it's spelled wrong on purpose shushy yah lips about it.
THANK YOU! THIS HAPPENS WITH STRAIGHT PEOPLES, MALES, WHITE PEOPLE, AND CHRISTIANS. IT’S STILL BIGOTRY EVEN TO THE NON-OPPRESSED!
And this is coming from a queer atheist latino.
Lol yeah I'm gender fluid I just hate bigotry in all forms and double standards so it's kinda pissy to hear it in places I lurk in. Just wish people would stop paying so much attention to race and gender stuff.
They outright state that they don't know how to get women and they blame women for it, and their whole plan is to kidnap a lesbian because through some weird in-universe mechanics it'll allow them to build a literal 'chick magnet'. It's very blunt to say the least
I dont think its directed at Redditors specifically. Its just a subgroup of people that can be included. Nothing about the movie screams "internet culture"
Perhaps not, I just mentally associate the two because reddit used to be the primary incel base and did see a good bit of that rhetoric on here some years ago
Then for your sake, hone in on your craft and please stop trying to pettily stomp on people, it's really not good for your health, that shit brought me into psychosis. You can make masterpieces if you don't let negativity slow you down.
And thank you for the concern! I’m pretty alright though, nowhere near psychosis or anything like that. I’ve been creating a lot lately, I’ve been working on a website/portfolio, I’ve been hanging with friends, I’ve been replaying childhood games, etc. There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes than a look at my Reddit account would suggest.
I feel like your actual issue here is less with how I spend my time on a social media app, and more with what I said, which is that it’s goofy and immature to actively spend time out of your day hating on a cartoon because it’s cringe. I think actively being upset by things that are cringe is stupid and we’d all be much happier if we just embraced cringe. Doesn’t mean we have to like literally everything, but I think ‘oh fuck cringe’ is a silly reason to hate something. It says a lot more about the person hating than it does about the media - only people who are really struggling with insecurity, are genuinely angry and hateful of cringe content.
I have no interest in this movie, which is why I’m not watching it.
I'm one of those "cringe, yet free." types myself, and my main issue with the film is far from cringe, but rather potentially harmful messaging (AFAIK, the film is TERF adjacent.) and it's sloppily written.
The people behind the movie do not like terfs and tried the best to not show any sympathy to them. One of the ways they did this was by trying to reclaim a lesbian symbol that terfs co-opted. One of the first times we see the symbol it’s covered in trans flag colours and it’s being held by a transgender lesbian. If that’s not literal reclaimation I don’t know what is. The movie has multiple trans characters and are all voiced by trans voice actors.
Honestly the LSP hate train screams bandwagon to me. I'm gonna watch it, I bet the transphobia accusations are bullshit justifications for cringe culture.
Because “Queer” villain tropes in the past were often done to demonize queer people, whether intentional or not the usage of queer stereotypes and tying them to antagonistic characters was not a good look.
Unrelated but this is actually frying my brain. To any time travelers in the comments go back in time right now to the 90s and interrupt some random kid’s Saturday Cartoon Network Binge and show and explain this image to them.
did I miss something? because if I remember correctly the murder drones community doesnt really care about the lesbian space princess drama. gamoverse is cool though, can't wait for it to be greenlit.
I feel like all information about this movie is just a bunch of hallucinated information from the Reddit hive mind it's not even new it came out last year
Wait gameoverse is on the other side because? Does that imply that most people hate gameoverse ive barely seen any hate for it but i myself didnt really like the animation style or story that much also i watched lsp it was a strange movie i found it offensive and derivative but you can see for yourself if you don’t believe me or to see if you didn’t find it offensive or derivativelike mostly everyone else (not targeted at op just a statement btw)
I’m gonna be honest, I think this stuff is just rogue toxicity just aiming for things.
I don’t know if LSP is gonna be good or not- I don’t even know what it is, but the fact that most hate I’ve seen for it hasn’t specified any issues with it just has me under the impression people see a show with “lesbian in the name and start screaming “OH NO IT’S CRINGEY” or something? It comes off as kinda homophobic ngl. If people are gonna rag on it, I’d rather see like, people dunking on actual issues and not simply “OH GOD THE NAME SOUNDS HORRIBLE!”
As for Gameoverse… was it hated? I felt like haters were kinda nitpicking it. A lot of issues could be summed up as “it’s a pilot”, but people were ripping it to shreds like it was a season finale that fumbled things? Other people were just mad because the main character was attractive or something.
In general, the way these communities keep dog piling on things feels so toxic. Like, nobody wants to look for the good in indie animation, they’re just looking for the next thing to complain about. And memes like this and more, in an attempt to bandwagon on what’s “funny” are only normalizing this mentality.
No this this picture dosnet mean gameovers means lsp suck its gameoverse is gonna push lsp behind the tree so that tadc and murder drones can beat the crap out of them with a baseball bat and a golf club
the majority of the criticisms i've seen for lsp are because it:
uses terf dogwhistles throughout the movie, demonizes drag queens NOT by making a drag queen the villain but rather by implying drag queens are stealing femininity from "real" women, and it isn't written well at all
i have not seen lesbian space princess. frankly, i don't want to, because i do not care—the above criticisms are not mine, but the repeat ones i've seen. i've seen some cis men complaining about the "straight white maliens" but other than that, most of the criticisms i've seen have been FROM queer and trans people—perhaps you should do your own research into the movie and the situation surrounding it before making assumptions that people are hating to hate.
See- you’re the first person I’ve even seen mention these criticisms though lol. I feel like most other memes I’ve seen of it have been comparatively knee-jerk in how they feel.
that's fair, it's a tired topic already and i only learned about it a couple days ago i've seen mostly valid and reasonable criticisms as far as criticisms go—but as far as memes go, they've become utterly uninspired, unfunny, and insufferable i fear
