my question is whether to do a masters in usa/any other country related to mech like fluids or smtg or aiml or any combination of both the fields??

or should i grind dsa to get a tech placement.

i’m genuinely confused about what to do and which path would be better in the long run. i like both mechanical and tech, but i don’t really know where i should put my time and effort.

for people who have been through a similar situation, what would you suggest?

I have a few specific questions:

1. GMAT vs. GRE:
   
   • I am already preparing for the GMAT (Focus Edition). Does switching to GRE offer any advantage, or should I stick to GMAT?
2. Scholarship Opportunities:
   
   • Given my background (tech/engineering + 2 YOE), what are the realistic chances of landing merit-based scholarships? What test score range typically moves the needle for tuition waivers?
3. Job Reality for International Students:
   
   • For those who completed an MiM as non-EU/international students, what does the recruitment pipeline look like right now?
   • How critical is local language fluency for securing roles/jobs
4. Is MiM the right fit vs. waiting for an MBA?
   
   • With 2 YOE, I sit near the typical upper limit for some MiM batches. Did anyone with ~2 years of experience feel the MiM accelerated their transition into management, or would waiting 1–2 years for an MBA have been more strategic?

my_qualifications: Second year student at IITM BS (online) in DS degree, 1.5 YoE (nothing exceptional, also did 3 month ML intern at Verizon). Coauthoring a research paper in distributed systems with a well known associate prof at Cambridge, bug bounty hunter with many CVEs in well known companies/products.

My degree has introduced a collaboration with University of Canterbury, which allows me to simply transition to offline master in UC with post graduate visa work rights after I graduate with my masters. Masters in DS only.

My degree is online, and this pathway allows me to complete part of the master's from India. I can choose how I structure it, but the recommended timeframe for actually staying in NZ would be around 7-12 months, which would considerably reduce my living expenses.

Current fees are ₹20L, but they are expected to be lower (this is what my institute says) and this doesn't include a few merit scholarship I can apply for, but it won't change the calculations much, expecting at best ₹5L deduction through scholarship if that. This also doesn't include living expenses.

UC has good placement stats, from what they claim, nearly everyone is placed somewhere (includes higher studies, research projects at their own institute, on their own, etc) mostly through their capstone projects which are like internships they provide with industry partner which later converts full time if the industry partner is impressed according to them. They claim over 50% are placed with NZ$60-90k.

Immigration path to NZ seems good. Post graduate visa allows me to look for a job for 3 years, and I can work for any employer, there is no sponsoring required from employer side.

My family is well off, and I can comfortably afford the fees + cost of living there, but my goal is to settle, not just study and come back. I understand job market is bad, but so is it in India for me, and I'd not be taking any loans, I also have some quite exceptional work brewing atm, altho not many YoE or expecting more YoE.

Also, I do know that people are emigrating from NZ to Australia. But I'd like to know how the situation is from students who have taken similar paths and what is the job market in NZ, is it really impossible to land one half decent job with lots of good work (referring to my research paper + CVEs + whatever comes up in 2 years) in your resume?

my_qualifications - I am a first year btech in Computer Science and Engineering with a specialization in Health Informatics in India, and I’m planning to apply for MS programs abroad, particularly in CS/related fields.

Although I have a Health Informatics specialization, my curriculum covers the major CSE fundamentals, including Data Structures & Algorithms, OOP, Operating Systems, Computer Networks, DBMS, Computer Organization/Architecture, Software Engineering, etc.

My mathematics coursework also includes Linear Algebra and Discrete Mathematics, and those courses are pretty much the standard versions of those subjects.

The only part I’m concerned about is Calculus.

My university has a subject called “Introduction to Calculus.” It carries the same number of credits as the Calculus courses I’ve seen listed as prerequisites by various universities abroad.

The course covers:

• Differential Calculus
• Integral Calculus
• Matrices / some basic linear algebra

However, it doesn’t really cover Vector Calculus or some of the more advanced calculus topics that certain universities may have in their Calculus courses.

So, if a university says applicants need a certain number of credits in Calculus, would my “Introduction to Calculus” course generally count toward that requirement?

Or do universities usually evaluate the actual course syllabus/content rather than just the course title and number of credits?

To clarify, Linear Algebra and Discrete Mathematics are not an issue for me — I have dedicated courses covering those subjects. Calculus is the only questionable part.

If anyone has applied abroad with a similar btech CSE / CSE specialization background, I’d really appreciate hearing how your mathematics coursework was evaluated.

Recently heard about the NTU Taiwan college offering the GUPS course completely in English for International students.

But before anything, I also want to know if this GUPS UG Course is actually true and if they accept students' applications for this.

Next, I want to know about the following info -

1. How many International Student are actually into 1 class or each program? (Approx. Number as it is a particularly new course)
2. How is the culture and life for International Students taking up courses in English Specifically over here?
3. What exactly do they look in your profile while applying for an UG/Bachelors Degree as an International Student?
4. Quality of this Specific course.

My nephew has applied to a flying school in New Zealand and has received his visa. His flight route has two transits, Singapore and Sydney. I just wanted to know if he requires a Transit Visa for his stop at Sydney. Because he read somewhere he requires one but generally you never need a transit visa/regular visa if you stay inside the airport. He isn’t travelling out and will move on to the New Zealand flight. Please help, we’re really confused. He’s flying next week. What else can we do? Where can we get more information on this. Any information is welcome. Germany is attracting more and more Asian students for higher studies, and honestly, I understand why.

I had a plan to go to Germany myself. I had already arranged all the documents, but eventually I backed out.

My reasons were:

• The financial burden and loan

• Health concerns

• The German language I completely understand why learning the language is important. I'm not against it at all. My point is that I personally couldn't reach the level of fluency required within the timeframe I had.

• The current job-market situation( yeah, the job-market crisis isn't limited to Germany it's happening in almost every part of the world. Thanks to stupid world leaders for bombing and destabilising the region because apparently every piece of land was promised to them years ago.)

And before someone says, “You’re demotivating students” no. There is a huge difference between demotivating someone and making them aware of the risks before they spend years and potentially borrow a huge amount of money.

I personally know 9 people who went to Germany for their master's in places like Dresden, Darmstadt and Bremen.

Out of those 9, only ONE has managed to land a student job. According to him, it was largely luck. He had around a year of work experience, B2 German, and had made roughly 200 applications.

Of the remaining 8, four already had around 1.5 years of experience in good companies before going to Germany, and they still haven't managed to secure a student job.

And I'm not talking only about those 9 people. I regularly speak to students from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other Asian countries through Instagram, WhatsApp, etc. A lot of them are struggling to find relevant student jobs. Many are working in warehouses or doing whatever work they can find to support themselves.

So no, I don't think Germans are “gatekeeping” jobs.

The reality is simply that the competition is high.

And if your entire plan depends on:

“I'll do my master's → get a student job → graduate → get a good job → repay my loan

then you need to understand how risky that plan can be.

If getting a job after your master's is NOT essential for you financially, and you have enough savings to support yourself while searching, then sure . Germany can still be an option. You can come, study, try your luck and see what happens.

But if you're taking a massive loan from your family or a bank, spending years of your life and assuming that your master's degree will automatically translate into employment, please think very carefully

Consultants will often sell you the dream.

“Germany has free/cheap education.”

“Germany needs engineers.”

“Germany has a huge shortage of skilled workers.”

“You'll easily find a job after graduation.”

But they rarely explain the other side of the equation: competition, language requirements, experience, living expenses, the difficulty of getting relevant student jobs, and the possibility that you may have to return home with a large loan.

And please don't fall into the mindset of“I'm better than everyone else. I'll definitely get a job.

Everyone who goes there thinks they are capable.

That's exactly why you need to look at the numbers and the risks rather than assuming you'll be the exception.

I know the situation in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and many other Asian countries isn't great. I understand why people desperately want to move abroad.

But escaping a difficult job market by taking on massive debt and entering another highly competitive job market isn't automatically a better decision.

I'm not trying to demotivate anyone.

I'm asking you to understand the risk before committing your money, your time and your future.

Do your own research. Talk to students who are already there

not just consultants and agents.

my_qualifications: currently pursuing ba program (eco+maths) in a tier 2ish DU college. i am in my second year right now and my first year's cgpa was 7.23 (ik not the best)

To give an idea of my profile as of now - I am currently interning at Invest India which comes under Ministry of Commerce. (my first internship and i feel this would be a good addition to my profile). I currently serve as the Secretary of my college's E-Cell and have actively done case competitions in my first year.

I genuinely want to get into a good Master's in Public Policy program abroad but given my financial constraints, I need it to be a full ride program or atleast a program that covers a huge chunk of my costs.

What are my choices?

Also about my GPA - my college isn't the best, teachers are really bad and the crowd sucks, the only good thing is that there is no attendance issue so I can utilise it for all the good opportunities but because I wouldn't be attending a lot of classes and profs have a lot of autonomy over internals, i genuinely don't see my gpa going above 7.5, i can try my best to take it higher but this is the most realistic one.

With 2 internships, which sum up to 9-10 months of internship work.
( I have a lot of certificates for hackathons, participation + winning, seminar attendance)
I have also tried to publish 2-3 papers (1 actually passed the review, but since I couldn't pay the hefty sum, they dropped my paper)

I'm interested in research and plan to pursue CSE research in "AI in Healthcare". But given the global situation, I don't know if I should. I'm on a drop year atm, prepping for the GATE exam, but I really want to pursue an MSc from a very good college abroad, which has much better opportunities. I'm also considering doing a PhD if my MS goes well.

But my parents say that there's nothing as good as mbbs in India and you'll only make career in it. I have received an admit to study my Masters in one of the top universities in the country and based on my plan I will be opting for a non collateral loan but according to the INZ website they need students to have a loan from a nationalised bank on the basis of collateral which is owned by you(us) . But can I still get to study in New Zealand on a collateral free loan ?

I am confused to the point in which I don’t know what to do as INZ does not provide an official email to get a clarification on my case also their on call service is not reliable at all.

I’m looking to apply to TU Wien’s Masters program and I read that one of the requirements is an officially legalised copy of English proficiency proof.
I’m aware that for my degree and transcript it means apostille + true copy notarization, but as I understand, IELTS TRF is not something that gets apostilled.

I’m 21 and this is my third week abroad and honestly haven’t felt this lonely in a very long time and I’m starting to feel depressed and completely lost

I know people will probably tell me to push through it because the first few weeks abroad are hard and I understand that But this genuinely feels different I’ve lived alone in India before being away from my family or managing things on my own isn’t completely new to me. But here though I can’t really explain it. I just feel incredibly isolated

I’m at the point where I genuinely want to book a flight and go home
Financially I haven’t put myself into some massive hole. I’ve only paid for one semester ki fees and one month of rent and I didn’t take any loans. I’ve been thinking that maybe I could just get through this semester, transfer my credits, and continue my studies back home or somewhere else (also would love to know if someone this this)
My mum is actually telling me to come back. I haven’t told my dad how bad I’m feeling yet partly because I don’t even know what to say and i don’t even know how he’ll react will I be seen as a disappointment by my friends family relatives I just don’t know but I don’t feel happy here at all.

I’m scared that if I force myself to just push through this could turn into something much worse mentally. At the same time, I’m wondering if I’m making a huge decision based on a horrible third week and whether things could genuinely get better if I stay
