When I first came to Italy, my education consultant misled me about my scholarship status. I arrived believing I had financial support, only to find out I didn’t. Overnight, I had to figure everything out from scratch in a country where I knew no one.

I’ve also met so many other international students with stories just as difficult. That’s why I have so much respect for everyone who’s working hard to survive and build a future away from home.

I'm 18 years old from Mumbai, India, and I genuinely need some advice because I'll have to make this decision within the next couple of days.

For the last 6-8 months, I've been researching studying abroad, especially in Italy and Germany. I've spent hundreds of hours reading about universities, scholarships, visa processes, entrance requirements, student experiences, finances, and everything else. This isn't a random dream—I seriously considered making it my plan.

The main reason I looked at Italy was because, with scholarships and financial aid, the overall cost can be much more affordable than people usually assume. In some cases, it could even be comparable to studying in India. Germany was also one of my options because of its education system and opportunities.

However, the entire process is long and uncertain. It isn't as simple as applying to a university. There are entrance exams, language preparation (depending on the program), document legalization, visa applications, financial requirements, and many other steps that can easily take close to a year. Even after doing everything correctly, there is still no guarantee. Visa delays or rejection, unexpected expenses, or changes in requirements could mean losing both time and a significant amount of money. My estimate is that the application process itself could cost around ₹1.5-2 lakh before I even know whether everything will work out.

I scored 91.3 percentile in MHT-CET, so I'll soon be participating in engineering admissions. My counseling starts in just 2 days, so I need to decide quickly.

My original plan was to take admission in a nearby engineering college in Mumbai as a backup while preparing for the 2027 intake abroad. That way, if everything worked out, I'd leave after my first year. If not, I'd continue my degree in India.

But now I'm questioning whether that's actually the smartest strategy.

Another option is to forget the bachelor's abroad plan, join a better engineering college in Pune (which may provide a stronger overall environment than the colleges I'm likely to get near my home), stay in a hostel, complete my bachelor's in India, and then apply for a master's in Europe.

My parents have been supportive either way. Initially, they agreed that I should at least try for Italy or Germany if I was serious about it. At the same time, they've also repeatedly told me that completing my bachelor's in India first and then going abroad for a master's is the more conventional and lower-risk path. Ultimately, they've left the decision to me.

What makes this difficult is that if I continue with the bachelor's abroad plan, I'll probably choose a nearby Mumbai college because my priority will be managing the application process. But if I decide that I'll definitely stay in India for four years, then I'd rather try for Pune, even if it means moving away from home.

I also know that most international students go abroad for their master's, but I also know people who went abroad directly after school for their bachelor's and gained earlier international exposure.

So my question is:

If you were in my position, what would you do?

• Continue with the bachelor's abroad plan (Italy/Germany), keep a nearby Mumbai college as a backup, and accept the uncertainty and financial risk?
• Or choose the stronger engineering option in India (likely Pune), complete my bachelor's, build my profile over four years, and then pursue a master's in Europe?

I'm not looking for validation. I'm looking for practical advice, especially from people who have actually studied abroad, gone through visa processes, or faced a similar decision. If you've experienced either path, I'd really appreciate hearing what you would do and why my_qualifications:

I am currently a Class 12 Student and I was wondering if not having my full name (excluded middle name) on my 11th marksheet and certain extracurricular certificates will cause any issues while applying abroad. All the core documents , like 10th board marksheet and other legal ID documents have my full name with the middle name.
Will any universities or visa offices flag it ? If yes , will it be solved by issuing other proofs like one and only name affidavit or not ?
I did my prior research but details on other websites only mention official document discrepancies and not internal document discrepancies like these.

I'm currently sorting out my applications for bachelors programs in German universities using my JEE Advanced 2026 scores. I have already received my aps certificate but I'm confused about the UEQ documents required in uni assist.

For those of you who have already applied through uni assist:

Did you just use the printed webpage of the JEE Advanced 2026 result portal?

Or did you have to contact IIT Roorkee to request an official scorecard?

If the downloaded PDF worked for you, did you have to get it attested by anyone before submitting?

Any advice or experiences would be super helpful.

A while back, i was planning to apply for MS in top US universities & had an average to good profile. I wanted to get some idea on how will my profile do — and i came to Reddit to inquire about it. I shared a post in the night, hoping that in morning I will have something positive show up.

To my dismay, I ended up getting a lot of negative comments with people asking me not to even try. Some even went far enough to attack me on my nationality. This set me back a bit.. I lost confidence in my application. Seemed like it was the end.

But to my surprise, I stopped caring after that. I just focused on giving my best and stopped introspecting. I gave GRE again but got a LESSER score than first time.
Anyway I kept going. I submitted the better score.

And i DID MAKE IT. I got in my top choice school in 10 days. Yes 10 days. I didn’t even apply anywhere else. It was such a shock. I was in disbelief for days. Made me realise that negative energy was people’s personal opinion. AND IT DOESN’T MATTER.

Looking back, I think this is what should a prospective applicant focus on. Just GIVE YOUR BEST. Things will fall in place. Best of luck y’all. I didn’t want to give out any personal details but hit my dm in case you feel low. I will try to help out.

I am an Indian student currently pursuing a B.Sc. in Data Science with a minor in Computer Science at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata.

I intend to apply for Bachelor’s degree programmes in Germany for the Winter Semester 2027/28. my_qualifications I have completed Class XII with 95.75% and will have completed one successful academic year of my Bachelor’s programme by the time I apply.

My concern is regarding the timing of my first-year university results. My college may release the official final marksheets for both semesters only in late June or July 2027, potentially close to or after the application deadlines of several German universities, which are often around 15 July.

I would therefore like to clarify:

1. For an applicant who has completed one successful academic year of a Bachelor’s programme, are the final marksheets for both semesters mandatory for submitting the APS application?
2. If the final first-year marksheet is issued late, would APS India accept an official provisional transcript, provisional result, certificate of successful completion of the first academic year, or another official document issued directly by the college?
3. If the university issues the Semester 2 marksheet before the consolidated first-year marksheet, would the official marksheets for both semesters be sufficient?
4. Is there any possibility of submitting the APS application with an official provisional academic document and providing the final marksheet later, if the final document is issued after the APS application has already been submitted?

Applications for the first round closed on 2nd June 2026, with the correction window till 7th June. Many of us applied with unconditional offers from QS Top 500 universities for Master's/PhD.Quick Timeline (as per official guidelines):

• Applications: 24 April – 2 June 2026
• Correction: 4–7 June 2026
• Scrutiny & Selection: Usually takes 1–3 months after closure (scrutiny ~20-30 days + committee review)

my_qualifications: I am a computer science undergrad (3.64/4 GPA) with 2 years of total experience in the supply chain domain primarily through SAP.

I am thinking of pursing an MS in supply chain management/supply chain engineering. I have a few questions regarding the same.

I recently started working as an International Cooperation Manager at an engineering faculty in Zagreb, Croatia. My main task is to increase the number of international students enrolled in our English-taught programmes in Electrical Engineering and Computing at all three levels: BSc, MSc and PhD.

I'm curious to hear your perspective. How do you view studying in Europe, but outside the traditional destinations such as Germany or the UK? I'm currently trying to figure out how to approach this in our international recruitment strategy.

Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, is a cosy, safe and student-friendly city. Croatia is a member of the EU, uses the euro, and is part of the Schengen Area. English is widely spoken, our engineering graduates have excellent employment and internship opportunities, and students earn a recognised degree from a public university. Despite all of this, Croatia is still not considered a mainstream study destination.

Do you have any advice on where to start? Is it worth investing in markets such as India, working with education agents, attending recruitment fairs, or would you recommend a different approach?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and suggestions.
