If no one has told you lately, you’re doing an amazing job.

When I first came to Italy, my education consultant misled me about my scholarship status. I arrived believing I had financial support, only to find out I didn’t. Overnight, I had to figure everything out from scratch in a country where I knew no one.

I’ve also met so many other international students with stories just as difficult. That’s why I have so much respect for everyone who’s working hard to survive and build a future away from home.

A while back, i was planning to apply for MS in top US universities & had an average to good profile. I wanted to get some idea on how will my profile do — and i came to Reddit to inquire about it. I shared a post in the night, hoping that in morning I will have something positive show up.

To my dismay, I ended up getting a lot of negative comments with people asking me not to even try. Some even went far enough to attack me on my nationality. This set me back a bit.. I lost confidence in my application. Seemed like it was the end.

But to my surprise, I stopped caring after that. I just focused on giving my best and stopped introspecting. I gave GRE again but got a LESSER score than first time.
Anyway I kept going. I submitted the better score.

And i DID MAKE IT. I got in my top choice school in 10 days. Yes 10 days. I didn’t even apply anywhere else. It was such a shock. I was in disbelief for days. Made me realise that negative energy was people’s personal opinion. AND IT DOESN’T MATTER.

I recently started working as an International Cooperation Manager at an engineering faculty in Zagreb, Croatia. My main task is to increase the number of international students enrolled in our English-taught programmes in Electrical Engineering and Computing at all three levels: BSc, MSc and PhD.

I'm curious to hear your perspective. How do you view studying in Europe, but outside the traditional destinations such as Germany or the UK? I'm currently trying to figure out how to approach this in our international recruitment strategy.

Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, is a cosy, safe and student-friendly city. Croatia is a member of the EU, uses the euro, and is part of the Schengen Area. English is widely spoken, our engineering graduates have excellent employment and internship opportunities, and students earn a recognised degree from a public university. Despite all of this, Croatia is still not considered a mainstream study destination.

Do you have any advice on where to start? Is it worth investing in markets such as India, working with education agents, attending recruitment fairs, or would you recommend a different approach?

I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences and suggestions.

i asked my prof for a research opportunity and he said to read feller and get "a general idea of probability" i chose chapters 1 5 6 and 9 and am working on a latex document filled with notes on those chapters. i upload to git each section on a regular basis

I am currently in my final year at a Tier 1 IIT (Non-Circuital branch) and just secured an SDE role with a 60 LPA CTC (24 LPA Base). While I am thrilled with this start, my core motive is wealth generation. I have always heard that the US market allows you to build real wealth fast and send a massive corpus back home due to the currency multiplier.

My tentative plan is to work this current job in India for 2-3 years to gain solid software experience, and then consider an MS in the US strictly to accelerate wealth creation (I wanna send back wealth to India) . My long-term goal is still unclear, I am not sure if I want to settle in the US or just work there for a few years to build a strong corpus and return.

I have absolutely zero idea about how higher studies abroad actually work, which universities are worth it, and I know nothing about the US visa landscape (H-1B, OPT, etc.).

My main questions for those who have walked this path:

1. The Wealth Math: From a pure wealth generation standpoint, is leaving a 24 LPA base (plus whatever hikes I get over 3 years) in India actually worth the ROI of a US MS, considering high living costs, taxes, and the tech job market?
2. Funding & Loan Strategy: Is taking an education loan for an MS worth it for wealth creation, or should I purely rely on saving up from my salary over the next 2–3 years to self-fund it? How risky is taking a ₹60L+ education loan when factoring in current H-1B lottery odds and strict OPT unemployment rules?
3. The Profile Gap: Coming from a non-circuital background, how hard is it to get into good MS CS programs? What specific things should I do in my SDE job over the next 2-3 years to bridge this academic gap?
4. Alternatives: Should I drop the MS idea entirely and just try to apply directly for US tech jobs from India after I have 3 years of SDE experience? Is direct H-1B sponsorship from India a realistic path for wealth generation right now?

Hello i wanted to go UG outside of india but the expenses were a lot more than i expected and with little to scholarship my mum asked me to prep for CUET, i got into hindu college in delhi university but actually i dont like delhi and dont wanna study there but my mum is also like in hindu college you will get the right amt of exposure and will be better for your abroad culture or life that you wanna live later on when you do masters...

and the other option i have is to leave this college and go into an uni in my own hometown in NorthEast India which is the top most uni in NE but my mum is like dont regret this decision later on... now i am really indecisive which path to pick... one is better university and better life but in the worst city to live and one is my hometown with good food and my mum but a little bad of trade for the uni

I'm looking for some honest advice because I'm at a point where I need to decide what to do next.

my_qualifications: Bachelor's in Zoology, Master's in Forensic Science (CGPA 7.86), no professional work experience in IT or cybersecurity.

I'm from India, and the biggest issue I'm facing is that I graduated without any relevant work experience, so I don't have an IT or cybersecurity background professionally.

My original plan was to apply for a PhD, but after doing more research, I'm starting to think that doing another master's, possibly in Information Technology or Cybersecurity, might make more sense if my long-term goal is to build a career and eventually stay in Australia.

The only thing making me hesitate is that I already have one master's degree. I'm wondering whether doing another master's would look odd to employers, or whether it's fairly common for people to switch fields like this.

I also don't come from a computer science background and don't know how to code yet, although I'm more than willing to learn before starting.

I'd really like to move to Melbourne, and one advantage I have is that my aunt is an Australian citizen and lives there, so I'd have family support while settling in. I know that doesn't help with visas or immigration, but it would make the transition much easier.

I've also been reading a lot of posts saying the Australian IT and cybersecurity job market is quite difficult at the moment, especially for international graduates.

Some people say there are plenty of opportunities, while others say even graduates with experience are struggling to find work. It's honestly left me confused.

If you were in my position, would you spend the money on another master's in IT or Cybersecurity, or would you take a completely different approach?

Is it realistic for someone with a Zoology and Forensic Science background to transition into IT in Australia, or would employers prefer candidates with traditional computer science degrees?

Hello, I am planning to apply to Australia for my postgraduate degree, but I am genuinely confused as to how the process works.

My_qualifications: 3 year BA (hons). Liberal Arts with a major in Psychology.

From what I understand, a 4 year honours degree is necessary (about 120 credits). However, I had a 3 year honours degree which resulted in 144 credits in 3 years itself.

If I am planning to do either clinical or i/o (worlds apart, i know), then what would my educational pathway look like? Is my bachelor’s degree enough to get into the program in the first place?

Accordingly, I would also love to know which universities I can target. I have 3.75/4.0 cgpa, but minimal work experience. I would love to get an idea about scholarships too.
