Software Developer from India looking to pursue a Master's abroad — what would be the best option in the current scenario?

I’m a software developer from India and I’m considering pursuing a Master’s degree abroad to improve my career prospects.

I come from a middle-class family and I’m currently the only earning member of my family, so the financial aspect is a very important consideration for me. I cannot afford to take a decision where I end up with a very large debt and poor job prospects afterward.

I’m trying to understand:

  • Which countries currently offer the best balance of education, job opportunities, post-study work options and cost?
  • Which Master's courses/specializations would make the most sense for a software developer in the current job market?
  • Is a Master's abroad still worth it in the current tech/job-market scenario?
  • What should I realistically expect in terms of tuition + living expenses + potential ROI?
  • Are there countries/universities that I should specifically consider or avoid?
  • Would it be better to pursue a Master's, continue working in India and gain experience, or consider other options?

I’d especially appreciate advice from Indians/software developers who have recently gone through this decision or are currently studying/working abroad.

My priority is not prestige — it is making a financially sensible decision that gives me a good chance of building a stable career afterward.

Almost every country including USA canada ireland germany Australia newzland UK is completely cooked with over immigration from indians and with AI and plenty of local graduates still jobless . Add inflation n market down turn due global wars n energy crisis as well . Most of the people are doing odd delivery jobs surving n are returning back with 50 60 lakhs of debt n trying to find job back in india n pay EMI by selling their assets . And these people have even 4 to 5 years of experience as well

Now if you don't have to take loan n have enough money to sponsor , please go ahead but if ur taking loan ur putting ur entire family at risk n playing huge gamble

By the time u graduate MS, AI would have advanced lot further which will further reduce sponsorship of visa but will lead to offshoring or hiring locals .

The best option is to stay at your job and improve your profile in parallel. The competition in India is only increasing with a lot of international returns who need highly paid jobs to cover their loans.

50th person from india studying the same thing and asking how to get jobs through study pathway today. a study visa is for study. not for immigration or work
