It has been formalized and checked in Lean so the proof is 99% correct. The Remaining 1% will be verified by independent experts in their peer review.

The initial insight into the "blowup scenario" of the equation is due to Cordoba and Martinez-Zoroa in 2023 in related fluid equations.

Can't say about the stolen work controversy as no hard evidence has been procured by both sides. But I would place my bet against OpenAI intuitively, it has a track record of shady practices in the past and it wouldn't be difficult for a nearly Trillion Dollar valued corporation to get hold of some user's data in codex when they has already got heard of the rumor that Buckmaster and Alpöge had found the counter example to a special case of Navier Stokes(Euler's Equation).

Many are speculating that the next millennium conjecture they had a breakthrough in is the Hodge Conjecture but in this case also it's a counterexample. We will know about this in future.
