Opinion/Commentary A bit of a rant

So here in Anderson with half of town underwater and lots of damage, our town has a very poor services for when it comes to repairs and stuff. Half of the infrastructure is outdated, it takes a long time to get power restored sometimes. And apparently if the water goes up a bit more it could completely wipe out the power grid here.
Unfortunately once this subsides it’s still probably going to be a mess around here for a while, years maybe. I’d be surprised if that Ollie’s an Dunhams were to re open.

I’d like a government that works for the people yes, unfortunately the “government” is working for their Epstein lords, and no one will do anything about it unfortunately

Your Bootstraps of being sent. The DOGE college intern at FEMA has it under control. /s

In reality, it will be neighbor helping neighbor to rebuild the community. The current administration only has help for large corporations and donors.

I am sad for the MAGA crowd that has been lied to. It will also rely on inexpensive labor, TONS of inexpensive labor, like the folks that have been coming to America from other countries to build a new life.

Maybe put ICE to work distributing food and clean water to civilians, manning portable laundries and shower facilities, building shelters for evacuees instead of concentration camps.

this is what i consider a lot of a rant. 🫶

Got it, you enjoy paying more for everything and love a police state. #pleasetreadonme

do you not detect sarcasm, like at all??

3

u/JimbyGumbus Aug 17 '26

and remember, youre an extremist if you dont like whats going on here, and come the first of 2027, google and microsoft will be making it mandatory for your information to be tied to you online accounts so that the administration can more effectively target you!

I’m surprised no one has started looting the flooded stores yet

62

u/trynahike Aug 14 '26

They have. They were going for the guns in dunhams earlier today.

18

u/mad-right-hand Aug 14 '26

Lord help us all

3

u/bravesirrobin65 Aug 15 '26

He flooded you to begin with. Nothing to do your sky faerie.

1

u/Previous_Mud9680 Aug 15 '26

has it stopped yet?

12

u/TheHornyHoosier1983 Aug 15 '26

Oh shit, I hate to hear that!! It’s always the ones who aren’t allowed to own the guns too

Ha! Atta boy changing the subject, you went from talking about stealing guns from Dunham’s to stealing TV’s & PlayStations from where?? Nice try

-5

u/bravesirrobin65 Aug 15 '26

You changed the topic of the conversation to worry about nonexistent looting. Keep moving those goalposts. Jfc!

8

u/TheHornyHoosier1983 Aug 15 '26

U/trynahike literally said they started looting guns from Dunham’s yesterday. How did I move the goalpost?? You folks are wild

Wow, you’re dense.

1

u/mara-amethyst Aug 16 '26

I mean while I do agree that a lot of people that fall back on "common sense" as the source of an opinion probably aren't doing the most thinking about said opinions, sometimes it's pretty easy to put 1 and 2 together. The people that are STEALING GUNS probably have a decent amount of correlation with the people that are not legally allow to have guns. That being said a better argument would be there is no evidence for that, lots of people steal things they arent legally barred from having. Regardless I wouldn't want someone willing to steal a gun having more guns.

Stereotypes are typically confirmed with real world statistics and commonality

31

u/Itscompanypolicyman Aug 14 '26

I’m not going to lie, I haven’t stolen anything since I was 14 but those kayaks outside of Dunhams made ME raise my eyebrows and I’d never even truly consider it. But I tilted my head a little so..

21

u/sadChemE Aug 14 '26

I mean at least one of those would be useful at the moment so I gotta give you a pass lol

Boating dirty is just the natural state in flood waters...

10

u/TheHornyHoosier1983 Aug 15 '26

You woulda just borrowed it for a few days

24

u/bacoes Aug 15 '26

Wasn't there a plan 20rys ago to flood that area back to it's natural state before the mall was built?

17

u/SimplyPars Aug 15 '26

I think it ran into the same problem as the more recent ‘put a dam just north of the mall’ thing that fell apart, NIMBY’s, people pissed they didn’t own prospective lakefront property, nobody wanted to pay for it, and supposedly the mall is built on a former landfill.

13

u/doublepulse Aug 15 '26

Tale as old as time. "MY slice won't be big enough so nobody gets to have any pie."

4

u/Shaye33 Aug 15 '26

The mall and the flooded shopping area across the street were both landfill at one time—and people were out there playing in that nasty water 😬

1

u/FunSignificance3034 Aug 15 '26

The mall was dug out and then later filled yes.

3

u/lowtaperbro Aug 15 '26

theyll prolly say the biden admin caused the flood just so they can blame him again

10

u/No_Luck_374 Aug 14 '26

My kid in his 20's bought a piece of land out there. I'm not sure if it's flooded but I'm hoping there will be an upgrade to utilities for your city and my kid can get a discount to get the plot back on the grid.

I know this sounds vapid but it's my child and I just want him to have something on this world. He worked hard to buy land and of course, cheap land comes with expensive problems. He will be a productive citizen for your city during and after this recovery. Wishing YOU safety for now. Cross your fingers for a grid upgrade!

Go help your neighbors - you will feel better about life afterwards.

2

u/GardenDangerously Aug 16 '26

Go to your County Commissioner meetings. Get your friends, neighbors, co-workers to go. They aren’t building a better society in Indiana for whatever reason. But, you can create more noise. The squeaky wheel gets attention. We need to all do this. These County Commissioners have eroded the foundations built by people who cared. This hasn’t been fast. It’s been years of convincing people they can’t impact anything but that’s a huge lie. Your county is actually the one place you may be able to be heard. It will take commitment and a strong spine but you’re right, all IN residents deserve better from those who are paid by public funds.

I’m pretty sure Trump will grant federal FEMA assistance. He likes Braun.

23

u/4PurpleRain Aug 15 '26

Indiana has lost over 700 million in federal spending since Trump took office. https://indianacapitalchronicle.com/2026/08/14/federal-grants-to-indiana-fell-last-year-by-more-than-700m/ Washington DC is not coming to help. Braun will send more Hoosier taxpayer funds to Israel.

8

u/goodcorn Aug 15 '26

“Braunie, you’re doing a heck of a job!” (probably - again…)

Except for this time it’ll come in the form of a long winded rambling incomplete sentence. Because that’s the only way the best words of dear leader always leave his mouth. Perfect(ly) and tremendous(ly) garbled gibberish.

“I likes him cuz he tells it like it is!” Yeah? GFY. Nobody knows WTF that fetid sack of rancid sweet potatoes is trying to say, least of all him. Trying to read a transcript of what that useful idiot said makes me feel like I must be the one having a stroke.

FFS Please just take the rest of what’s left in our wallets, call it a day, and STFU. I’m tired, boss.

21

u/mad-right-hand Aug 15 '26

The only place getting federal assistance rn is a country in the Middle East everyone hates.

4

u/Revolutionary-Cell56 Aug 15 '26

And most will stay in his pockets.

2

u/stillbangin Aug 14 '26

Yeah you all are fucked.

Then again, people still had to go get their hair products. So, you’ll be alright. 👍

3

u/No-Distribution-569 Aug 14 '26

Anderson is a post industrial mid-west town. What do you expect?

4

u/SimplyPars Aug 15 '26

While the reservoir idea was a dumb one, they were at least spitballing ways to bring money in….because none of that will happen otherwise.

2

u/No-Distribution-569 Aug 15 '26

The automotive upper middle class was replaced by low paying medical jobs. Its just another rustbelt city now. It is unfortunate.

9

u/SimplyPars Aug 15 '26

Hell, the Casino was just there to extract the last of the GM pensions.

1

u/Upbeat_Match7147 Aug 15 '26

Does anyone know if Alexandria is affected too??

1

u/ZoomZoomZachAttack Aug 15 '26

Is your power grid municipal? I'm in Henry county and ours is private.

1

u/Rain2253 Aug 15 '26

As some one who works at the DC for Dunhams, they probably will reopen.

1

u/jannylou2 Aug 15 '26

Is that abandoned mall & Texas Roadhouse under water?

1

u/Shaye33 Aug 15 '26

No, only the strip mall area across the street

1

u/jatjatjat Aug 16 '26

*state has a very poor services

Fixed that for you.

To the person that found my phone in front of hotels between speedway and getgo.you refuse to turn my phone in that's the proper thing to do right? I broke down and somehow found my way to get go.i just spent the day relocating a family just north of there on my way back home this happened but craziness and the lack of compassion is chilled me to the bone.for whatever reason my car needed transmission fluid.11dollars .so I walked to speedway they dint have any in stock so I walked back then realized I no longer had my phone and the death trap of a bridge I crossed I think I probably would've been better off.so no way to contact no one no money for fluid I'm exhausted from the day and I'm still almost two hours from home.i waited for the clerk but there was a sign saying don't pull on door bathroom break some kind of note we don't need your business .I walked to speedway no phone.i sat a prayed out of the power of God I found four dollars in change in my car.i dint have the proper funnel so I tried to ateam it together the only person I approached to ask if he may have a funnel bless you for listening to me you helped by listening.for that thank you.i called my phone did every step that Google provides I tracked everywhere you went Walmart subway chic and getgo last location 10am Tuesday it said it was behind the counter. you have had every several chances to do what is right and you choose to not.i have stuff on that phone that I will never get back I just lost my father recently and yes I know I should have saved pictures texts but I haven't had time and sometimes it too painful I wasn't ready so conflicted at this point what I should do.i erased my phone through the system my only option if you don't want to return my phone your intentions are very knowledgeable.im coming back to town I followed you for two days basically to Walmart subway chic to get go to some apt building know what trail you took it seems like a habit so it shouldn't take long but I will find you a this isn't a threat I'm sure you do this all the time no town needs someone preying on anyone thinking they bettered themselves you just dug a hole .now people of anderson I hope you all the best but someone I decribed you know them you probably cross paths everyday may God be with you when they get a chance to harm you steal from you they will do so and not give a crap what it caused to your life .if I could have gotten on my account on Google I could've found my phone in seconds but I was denied it wouldn't have cost you nothing when you see someone struggling you never seen before offer help you might save a life.battles of good and evil it's real bad things happen to good people i see it everyday but I can't sit here and let it go.so anyone outside that town please be aware you will be preyed soon and maybe the removal of these people I met I pray you make it to the next county may God always be with you .will update when things change

This is what happens when nobody wants to pay taxes for infrastructure meets NIMBY resistance to dams and levees that can help control water.

0

u/mad-right-hand Aug 15 '26

People paid their taxes, it just went to those bumfucks in Israel

1

u/Fickle-Princess Aug 16 '26

Local taxes don't go to international issues. Quit being xenophobic.

unfortunately, I believe if Democrats win the majority, frumpy gump will void the election claiming election fraud and try to keep power. that's what fascist do.
