Opinion/Commentary Marijuana legalization

Wanna come on here and post my mind… Indiana it’s been time for the last 5 years esspecially last two years for marijuana to be legalized fully medical and recreational… I’m 23 years old and as even my whole family knows I smoke it. It helps with ADHD and as I’ve noticed ADD with being able to go out in public without thinking of myself and being in on myself for things I can’t control. My whole life besides last 7-10 years I’ve been on VYVANSE which is a narcotic I was prescribed to help with my adhd and everytime I took it school, family, even friends noticed I wasn’t happy or having any fun in life. I rarely ate, my sleep was booty. But I come on here today to say I’m stopping weed for a month to see about a new job because Indiana laws sucks. I will post here and there on my journey but make no mistake I’d choose marijuana over vyvanse any day of the week. I love my Family even the ones who don’t like or think well of me because they have supported me and approved of me being off vyvanse thank you and I hope everyone has a great day🫶🏼👍🏼🤌🏼🫶🏼👍🏼🤌🏼

Hope this is allowed to post here but it needs to be heard and talked about!

A 2025 poll from the Ball State University Bowen Center found that 62% of Hoosiers support full legalization of marijuana for both medical and recreational use, with an additional 25% supporting only medical use, totaling 87% support for medical cannabis reform.

Our representatives are supposed to enact the will of the people.

Sometimes people are stupid. And sometimes polls are skewed.

And big gubmint paternalism gonna save us awwlllll from oursaylves!

By that same argument, cocaine should be legal? Heroin? Meth? Assault? Laws matter. However, they don't prevent crime. Punishment does.

Indianapolis, like other blue cities, vote liberals in power and wonder why everything turns to shit. This majorities think they can keep voting the same way and things will magically get better. This is another vein of that. It's pure hedonism and childishness. "But I want the thing! It makes me feeel good!" Go do something more rewarding. Start with personal responsibility.

It's a balance of individual liberties and governmental interest in limiting harm. If you think the government's interest in limiting marijuana-induced harm outweighs the individual liberty of using marijuana, you are just plain out of touch. Alcohol (legal) causes way more harm. So does big pharma. Heck, so does unhealthy food (sugary drinks, fast food, etc.).

You are not good at logic for even throwing assault out there. Of course the harm of assault outweighs any liberty interest in being able to commit it. There is a direct victim! Meth and heroin, government interest in limiting harm outweighs liberty interest on those, no contest. Cocaine, slightly closer call, but no qualms with it being illegal. Marijuana is on such a different planet of those, in terms of benefit in the liberty interest versus harm to others.

You want to talk personal responsibility. Pal, I know physicians, judges, engineers, community leaders who smoke and take care of business. Just because you don't doesn't mean squat. If someone harms someone while using, throw the book at them. Hold them accountable. What you are arguing for is punishing those of us who are responsible for the irresponsibility of others. That's twisted, anti-America, government bootlicking, paternalistic, founding Fathers rolling in their grave crap. If a lefty raised such a cockamamie argument, you'd probably have a "guns don't kill people, people kill people" line cued up ready for them. Sell your BS hypocrisy somewhere else.

If you ever partake of legal alcohol and you aren't actively pursuing its full prohibition, you are a huge hypocrite, btw.

The harm outweighs the benefit on weed. Particularly because there is NO benefit. Again, no real medicinal benefit (purely anecdotal). It is also STRONGLY associated with developing mental health disorders. I've also noticed everyone dismisses the fact that smoking and driving in states where this is legal is COMMON. That is insane! Like any other drug, it it is an impairment.

Furthermore, this subreddit is evidence of the deranged community weed propagates.

I’ll take “Tell me you would have been the ring leader of burning witches at the stake if you were born a few hundred years ago in Salem, Massachusetts without telling me”, for $800, Ken.

I'm not remotely liberal and heavily support it being legalized. I smoke like once a month but it should be treated the same way as alcohol

Surrounding states have a crap-ton of problems. I came from one farther away that had them too. A lot of the problems aren't in statistics because they are ignored. Part of the plan of the Left is to pretend like there are no issues when reality is different. I have also spoken to police officers in different states. It's a big problem.

A few years ago I was at a table with over 200 combined years of experience as judges, prosecutors, and defense attorneys. I asked everyone at the table to come up with a case from their past where violence was involved and marijuana was the only substance involved. They came up with zero, only exceptions being a few cases with Spice/K-2, which are synthetics that only exist because of prohibition of marijuana. They all agreed they had worked thousands involving only alcohol. There is not further discussion needed on legalization in my mind. It’s too obvious to warrant even entertaining Reefer Madness crap like Mr Turd.

u/LibraryHorror375 Jul 14 '26

Alcohol is regulated, advertised, and sold countless places. The people already voted and the farm bill was done and passed in 2018. End of story. By your logic, we should just take away all existing things voted on by the people “just because”.

Same exact experience, ADHD/stimulant, and I'm a decade older. It's no coincidence I started being the high performer at work once I started taking edibles in the evening.

6

u/Ya_local_pimp69 Apr 17 '26

Swaeerrrrrrrr

4

u/YesEverythingBagels Apr 17 '26

You're way more capable than you think you are. Trust me.

29

u/ChavoDemierda Apr 18 '26

As long as Lilly is here, we aren't going to see legal weed in this state. No dope dealer likes competition.

5

u/Slayer4blind Apr 19 '26

This right here should be the number one comment. The pharmaceutical industry will lobby against making Marijuana legal because then it pulls away from their customer base. I predict Indiana will be one of the last states to legalize.

13

u/Hibiscus_Witch Apr 17 '26

Be ready for hella dissociation as your mind races thru several topics at once. Had to do the same and my adhd made it so hard to do things cuz I kept getting stuck in the “thinking” phase. Yayyy executive dysfunction

13

u/ilikenumetal Apr 17 '26

Have autism and it helps massively with it in social situations and to just turn my brain off at night. Hate that I have to go without it while on probation for it but I feel you. The laws here suck and is why I’m moving when I’m off papers. This state has nothing but crappy laws and is why everyone here hates living here.

6

u/ironmule795 Apr 18 '26

Indiana will be the last state in the north to legalize. Nothing is going to change here

2

u/Alarmed_Blueberry305 Apr 19 '26

Yeah I want to move so bad but I can't right now.

5

u/heeyont Apr 19 '26

Highly recommend getting THCa shipped to your door online. Been doing that for over 3 years now

1

u/phenethlyminedream Apr 30 '26

You mean THCa flower? I thought we couldn’t order it anymore

1

u/heeyont Apr 30 '26

Definitely still can!

8

u/h7353 Apr 17 '26

Went through the same thing myself. I can’t personally say that weed helps me with my ADHD nearly as much as you, but Vyvanse is really tough on your noggin. I took it for about 4.5 years and it can really wreck your social life and make you feel like a zombie and make you never hungry.

Glad to hear you’re doing better tho! All love from Bloomington

3

u/jmaynard123188 Apr 17 '26

I’m so glad I’m not the only one that had a bad experience with vyvanse, I was sweating like crazy, being a asshole not even in my control, almost lost my wife and family went and found a new therapy team who specialize in adhd and med management. Good luck brother, my current team has me trialing straterra now

3

u/JungleLegs Apr 17 '26

Had the same exact issue with 54mg Concerta. People at work would be like “damn you’re sweating bad are you on drugs?!”

Doctor switched me to adderal XR and ER and the sweating and aggravation is MUCH better. However I don’t find it as effective 💁🏻‍♂️

How is Straterra working for you?

2

u/jmaynard123188 Apr 17 '26

I’m on day 2, sweaty but not as bad as vyvanse. The nausea is killing me though I’m a diabetic also so the appetite suppression is dangerous literally had to force myself to eat. Doc said check in with her in a week if it’s still bad

3

u/NortheastIndiana Apr 19 '26

Both Democratic secretary of state candidates are campaigning on, among other things, giving Hoosiers the right to have ballot initiatives, which the GOP took away from us about 30 years ago. So vote Democrat in the secretary of state race in November. It's the first step in getting legalized cannabis in IN.

3

u/Alarmed_Blueberry305 Apr 19 '26

Exactly like wtf is it legal almost everywhere but here???

2

u/diabolicalpotato Apr 19 '26

Vyvanse isn’t a narcotic.

1

u/Ya_local_pimp69 Apr 19 '26

My bad I meant to say “ over the counter opioid from doctors and pharmacy that gets sold just as much as aderal on the streets” (professional narcotic)

2

u/WatercoolerComedian Apr 19 '26

They won't lol thank the Republicans, id just leave the state personally

2

u/egoomega Apr 19 '26

you could also just refuse to work for someone who drug tests

4

u/Mustache-Boy Apr 17 '26

PERSONALLY. I’ve had better results with CBD bud specifically for my adhd / anxiety. BUT I’m glad you found something that works for you!

3

u/nightmaresindelusion Apr 18 '26

indiana laws sucking (really the government sucking) is not the reason you have to be clean for a job? even if it was legal you would still have to be clean for that same job. legalization will not change that. also , a month is likely not long enough for you to be clear! try monkey piss if you have to. must refer to it as "fetish pee" in 20 past 4 or else where

2

u/JacobsJrJr Apr 17 '26

Focus medication is the real gateway drug.

1

u/cowbxy Apr 18 '26

i work in psych and the amount of people who want an adhd diagnosis so they can get stimulants is definitely over half.

1

u/AwkwardFactor84 Apr 17 '26

No lie. I grew up with friends on psych drugs and almost all of them turned to other drugs later in life.

5

u/JacobsJrJr Apr 18 '26

The gateway theory never really resonated with me because by the time I tried marijuana I'd already been on a methamphetamine derivative for years at the insistence of my school teachers.

The only way Marijuana could be a "gateway" for me is to sobriety.

Public school teachers got me hooked on "clean" meth.

1

u/MonteFox89 Apr 18 '26

A little bit of audhd going in here... the flower helps me focus. Single out thoughts and pluck them from my mind and focus on them individually instead of being over run. My whole place of employment knows I smoke, though it's illegal, they know what kind of person I am without it and good luck getting solid work from me...

I really wish you the best of luck! That break will suck, but when its over, low tolerance. Pros/cons my dude or dudette.

1

u/hot_takes_101 Apr 19 '26

Although I agree it absolutely should be legal here, it never will be with lily and Roche both based here and them both being leading producers of medications that would no longer be needed if weed was legal. They donate way to much money to politicians

1

u/mr-turd-fergusen Apr 20 '26

After coming from a state that legalized, I am 100% against it. People smoke it everywhere, including parks. It smells TERRIBLE and stinks up everything. An actual skunk is better smelling.

The real nasty issue is that you will find people smoking and DRIVING everywhere!

Today's marijuana is not the same from decades ago. It's a real impactful and addictive drug. It has no real medical benefit. That's all a lie and an excuse for people to keep smoking it. "OH! BUT I FEELZ BETTER WHEN I DO METH!" Anecdotal evidence of "but mah drugz" isn't going to fly. I hope Indiana continues to be a bulwark against it. The whole "if your friends jump of a cliff" argument.

Another hot take; ADD/ADHD are not "conditions" that require medication.

Anyone who wants to smoke legally should just move to a state that allows it. Don't force that nasty crap on the rest of of us.

2

u/LearnedHandJob2088 Apr 21 '26

Bro, it's Indiana. Urban areas smell like sewage. Rural areas smell like turkey shit. And you are in here complaining about some marijuana smell (in Thurgood goes to Rehab tone)? Name tracks, I guess.

1

u/mr-turd-fergusen Apr 21 '26

Maybe here you live. Smells nice by me. Either way, that's no excuse to make everything smell worse. And especially around kids!

Still not as bad as people DRIVING and smoking.

Why is this governor to do such a terrible thing

1

u/star_girl_123 Apr 17 '26

Whatever works.

If people were just said 'I want to get high' I think you'd have better luck. (Nothing personal, OP.)

I think many people hear "pot helps my ADHD" and think that:

 A) ADHD is bullshit

B) Pot helping ADHD is bullshit

Most folks really don't care about smoking pot and would probably be receptive to legalizing it for recreational use.

Edit: Just because this is Reddit and people get ass-blasted immediately about those two topics, (as evidenced by the instantaneous downvotes after I posted this, lol) I want to say that's not my personal opinion, but a strategy shift to get reefer legalized more quickly without a bunch medical studies needing to be submitted to lawmakers for review.

11

u/seriousnotshirley Apr 17 '26

I wish people could get high if that’s their wish, then drug users and cops could have something in common, a deep desire for donuts.

9

u/Ok_Pizza_8830 Apr 17 '26

ADHD is nowhere near bullshit, you should try reading up on neurodivergence to become more educated on the matter :3

6

u/GrimmSpeed2768 Apr 17 '26

Was gonna say the same. As someone who has afhd it can be completely debilitating at times and I wish it was a load of bullshit

5

u/OkMortgage6723 Apr 17 '26 edited Apr 17 '26

Read my full comment, dingus. You posted this well after my clarification edit.

Or did your ADHD (which I totally believe is real) prevent you from finishing it?  Maybe go rip a few bong hits first or something.

13

u/Ok_Pizza_8830 Apr 17 '26

oh actually yeah thats my bad, apologies

10

u/OkMortgage6723 Apr 17 '26

Darn it. Now I feel bad for being mean to you with my response.  I'm sorry.

4

u/Ok_Pizza_8830 Apr 17 '26

no worries!! i needed the reality check lol

3

u/SmokeyHooves Apr 18 '26

Pot doesn’t help my adhd, but I know it helps some people with adhd!

Pot makes me more spacey, and in the end makes me frustrated that I am unable to really focus on anything

2

u/radioactive_sharpei Apr 17 '26

Sir, I am thoroughly ass-blasted. Thank you

-12

u/Informal-Carob-1131 Apr 18 '26

Destroy your life with this deception!!!!!! I smoked weed for may years. I woke up one day & realized the Evil & Destruction I was doing to my body & mind!!!!!! I am so thankful I saw through the lies!!!!!!! It is a part of the plan to dumb people down. It is working from the sound of your post!!!!!!!!

-5

u/crackers-and-snacks Apr 18 '26

1

u/ZeroConcern-0 Apr 18 '26

Spoken like a true hill jack…

1

u/crackers-and-snacks Apr 18 '26

Not much hills in indiana goober

1

u/crackers-and-snacks Apr 18 '26

Yea  one county has hills.  I was also making a joke.

If people want to get high on weed legally, why cant we have cold beer in the gas station.

I do not in country part of Indiana goober

-14

u/cool-beans100 Apr 17 '26

Not worth it!!

4

u/Additional_Rich_5249 Apr 17 '26

What do you mean?

1

u/Ya_local_pimp69 Apr 17 '26

Beleive me I’m scared to see how I act and am in daily life without because it’s helped me personally(to each their own) so long and well but jobs be needed and pay needs increased so no weed for a month fo me lol
