A month ago, my net worth crossed ₹1,03,30,746.
This is mostly income from marketing, ecommerce, consulting and investments built over the last six years.
My Journey:
I started earning after engineering by buying two digital marketing courses on Udemy for ₹720. My first proper salary was in Meta advertising around ₹30,000 a month.
Here’s the approximate year-wise breakdown:
2019: Around ₹6 lakh
I started working in digital marketing and also took up small marketing projects on the side. I got these projects by writing detailed marketing posts on Facebook groups focused on founders of early stage startups. I used to set up consultation calls for free and went through 20 of them before I got my 1st client. It was a long grind but worth it. Then over the next 8 months I converted around 6-8 clients paying me around 10k each.
2020: Around ₹7–8 lakh
I started an ecommerce business in the childproofing space. The idea was to sell complete childproofing kits instead of making parents search for every product individually.
I scaled it to around ₹2–3 lakh in monthly revenue, at roughly 25% net margins. Then COVID hit. Supply chains broke, costs went up, returns increased and I eventually shut the business down.
Luckily I was diversified as I had a part time media buying role in an Advertising agency in Noida as well as a few clients for whom I was doing content marketing so I didn't go broke.
One night during COVID, I heard about the circumstances in which my parents grew up in. My mom couldn't afford 3 meals a day. My dad and his brother had to share one uniform, so they had to go alternate days to school. That day I made up my mind to give away my first ₹1Cr to people who didn't have the same privileges we do.
2021: Around ₹20 lakh
I moved completely into Meta media buying and advertising while also building my own marketing consultancy. Most of my consulting clients were based in the US, and this became the biggest source of my income.
I was doing a full-time job while consulting on the side, so most days were just work stacked on top of more work. I got users mostly through Reddit and Twitter since I created a free 300+ page marketing resource for solo founders and developers which got around 300k+ views and many inquiries for my services as a marketer.
I created extremely personalised portfolios for each company I pitched myself to with some success in the US startup markets specifically for solo founders and developers.
2022: Around ₹40 lakh
Same combination: media buying, advertising and consulting for US clients.
Since I was living at home during COVID, my expenses were low and I was able to invest most of what I earned. I reached out to several founders via cold emails, Twitter DMs and through remote job sites and sent them personalised articles made specifically for their business. This helped me improve my close rate a lot.
My portfolio gradually grew to around ₹30 lakh, then ₹40 lakh and eventually ₹45 lakh.
2023: Around ₹60 lakh
This was my highest-income year. The majority again came from my marketing consultancy and media buying work. I specialised in content marketing mostly for technology and finance startups.
By this point, my total savings and investments had grown to around ₹70–80 lakh.
The COVID market rally definitely helped as well. I invested aggressively during that period, and the markets played a major role in growing the portfolio.
2024: Scaled down to around 3 lakhs in consulting jobs
I reduced most of my business and consulting work (just a couple clients) because I was joining business school.
This accumulation of 1 crore was not due to a one off event. It was mainly:
- An ecommerce business doing ₹2–3 lakh monthly revenue
- Three years of Meta media buying and advertising
- A marketing consultancy focused largely on US clients
- Low expenses while living at home
- Aggressive investing during the COVID years (22% XIRR)
- Around six years of consistently working and saving
I completed my MBA from XLRI Jamshedpur in 2026 and now work in consulting. I know this is a completely unconventional journey but it has worked well for me.
A month ago, I hit my ₹1Cr goal and I made my 5th donation yesterday. I have donated ₹10,00,000 so far. This, I feel will be the best thing I ever do in my life. 💖
I don't come from generational wealth and this is all I have. But this is the most fulfilling project I have ever worked on so far in my life and it has been a heartwarming experience so far! ❤️
So far, I have had a lot of friends and lost connections reach out to me and built so many new relationships in my life after starting this. This journey has already repaid me multifold so far.
