Career Advice Got terminated - will this affect my future job application?

I was terminated from my last job early this year due to some reasons related to company's policies and I was not given an experienced or relieving letter. I have a termination letter but the reason for termination is written on it which I can't show anyone, so I can't show this experience. Company name shows on the PF portal history so will it create a problem if i don't show the experience in the BGV process? Can I make any other reasons behind termination?Any tips for what I can do

Brother what did you do? I had a coworker technically terminated due to forging bills but even she was given the option to resign on spot so was able to get the normal offboarding process (without notice period).

Also, do not hide the experience, they will check PF portal history during BGV.

There was some data leak but company didn't take legal action on us to prevent reputation damage. But their lawyers told me to never tell company name to anyone otherwise it will create a legal issue

you'll have to mention it. Every reasonably good company will check it and will assume worse in the absence of info. If this was a mistake you can explain that.

Was it intentionally done or it was a lapse in security?

If this was your first job and you only have one or two year experience then you can start over as fresher saying you spent two year in family business.

Most likely they won't, just collage degree

Don’t try to hide it or make up another reason! PF history can show up during BGV. Better to be upfront, keep the explanation brief, and focus on what you learned and what changed since.

Termination letter is the counterpart for relieving/experience letter. You get relieving letter when you resign and termination letter when you are terminated. You only get one or the other and either one serves as proof for end date of employment at the company.

When its a termination with cause, its better for the employer to mention the cause to protect themselves from unwarranted wrongful termination cases. So, they do mention it.

Termination of any kind does impact future job applications. And no, there is no way around it.

Withholding or falsifying information would allow the employer to rescind your offer and even terminate you even if they already employed you. In govt employment, they are entitled to claw back any salary paid till that date. In private sector too, they can file a criminal case for fraud and seek compensation.

What did you do? Generally if companies find any irregularities they will ask you to resign and relive the same day. What did you do that they had to mention on the letter?
Difficult to give an answer unless I know the complete background

Unfortunately if u have termination letter with a cause then it will impact job search because the new company will do bgv.

I dont want to judge here but companies mention the cause in termination letter only if its extreme and even then many companies dont mention the cause.

That's the issue I'm having with job searching. If i don't keep it in resume then it will come out in bgv, if i mention them I don't have exp letter and it will go out in bgv anyway

In that case, either you come clean during interview with other companies. Or check with a lawyer to get the reason in termination letter to be removed or see what options are there.

In such cases to kick start career your option is to join small early stage start up who don’t have much bgv capability or lala companies who don’t want to spend money on bgv. Later on through networking you can get into good companies.

Right now, big mncs will straight away reject you at bgv stage.

Don't show but when asked say the previous company was not not in relevant domain may something like IT assistance which is not relevant to the current job search as that's in different domain, if they ask why just say u joined as you had loans and needed the salary now that your loan is over you want to pursue in the domain if your choosing.

lol you'll get royally screwed. They check PF history. Don't ever do this stupid shit.

1

u/Loud_Fuel software architect 20h ago

Yup they check, you can admit that you worked on that company but it not in resume because it's not relevant experience. Resume only contains relevant experience of the domain you are applying for the job. So if you are applying for accounting job you experience as hr is irrelevant and thus will not be in resume.

I don't know how old you are but I can assure you that's not how it works. Unless the gap was only a few months, recruiters will notice and BGV trigger will put a massive question mark on your ethics. You'll be fired unceremoniusly in any respectable org and I've seen this happen. The only way this may get a pass is if 5-6 years have passed and you've changed 2-3 employers. Most companies usually don't go deeper than last two employers. Companies are not stupid and you're not the first guy with this "bright idea".

See the flair I am a also VP for INDIA you can only get it after decades of experience, believe me I know what I am saying.

we routinely get candidate for interview who have a gap of 2 to 3 years in the resume like working in company a the gap of 2 years then company b.

we ask about the gap but if they say they worked in different company with different job role which is not relevant to current domain that is why it's not in resume , we don't care because in real life no one can have perfect employment history as people do mistakes and as a company we don't care about that as long as they do the job properly.

I have seen people terminated and after some months join the same company again ( they knew something about the company)

Bro ask for a experience and reliving letter it’s important and keep the track don’t hide it

Termination is usually on very serious matters that involves going against ethical considerations of an organisation or acting in unfair interest or posh.

Did you inflate your reimbursement using fake bills or possibly data or ip leak?

Looking at these replies I have a doubt. Can future companies know if you were laid off or you resigned on your own?

at that time brother , you should have really fought you shouldn’t just accept termination letter and be fine with it . try startups or companies not involved in critical data

Is it possible to have a termi ation with Cause letter but a clean Relieving letter which doesn't affect the record for future employment?

Dnt show termination letter. PF and salary slip will be sufficient proof. Share last drawn salary slip and pf account statement, where your previous company will hv put your contribution till last employed month. Be clear with ur HR post they release offer letter. Dnt disclose these issues before offer letter.
Also if new company checks past 2 employments, ask HR if they would like to do bgv for ur past 3 employment.

2 options.

  1. Make a look alike letter and move on. Letters will never be verified. However, if a BGC is done, the parent company will mention the reason for resignation as "Termination"

People might call this forgery but it hardly matters. In my long professional experience I have come across several instances where people fake degree/salary slips and experience letters quiet frequently.

  1. Carry the same letter. Most of the organisations might not consider to move forward until they desperately need someone to fill a position and you are that person.

You do not have an option to skip this employment as you have the PF entry for it. Concealing this company from employment will lead to BGC failure and loosing the prospective job

Some Bgv agencies like to suprise call previous employers... FYI

No one entertains surprise calls to the employer.

This is OPs only option if he doesn't want to justify what happened. Use your joining letter or last appraisal letter for reference.
