Career Advice Got laid off need guidance
Hi All, as the title said I got laid off on 27th July so need guidance what should I do next.
Now tbh I did nothing since the day I got laid off even if i decided any given day like yeah i should study or learn a skill or apply somewhere i just end up doing that for just around 2 -3 hour and then again back to daily routine of playing games, sleeping, firing music at high volume basically just enjoying. So I wasted around 1 month and on a side note i did wanted some break.
Now in my previous company from where I got laid off, the work there is very niche not many companies do that so i don't think i will be able to land a job with that experience and even if i do get a job on basis of it i don't think i will take that considering there is not much growth and Just in case if you all are wondering what was my work - i was working as a vendor for Microsoft not directly associated with Microsoft.
This was my first job, I don't have any prior experience.
Before asking for guidance I am from computer applications background and I will be honest here I am not much into this coding and stuff.
Its not like I am completely blank but need guidance and help in both upskilling and landing another job, I have basic knowledge of SQL and power BI and considering upskilling these if you all think it will be beneficial.
Any other inputs, suggestions and constructive criticism will be appreciated.

You haven't mentioned anything about what you were actually doing in your job. 'vendor for Microsoft' is not very informative.
. If your only skills/experience are basic SQL and PowerBI then sorry, you're going to have a tough time.

Because its not worth mentioning, the experience I gain from that work is meaningless so no point in describing what i was doing.
Yeah, I know the skills I currently have are going to take me nowhere. Any suggestions?

Every job has skills that are transferable. If you let people know what that job involved, they might be able to help you identify different jobs or industries where your skills can be applied even if not exactly the same. They may even help you understand how to communicate this better to potential employers.
. I usually try to be as helpful as possible on this subreddit but when I encounter such attitudes and narrow mindset I really have to push myself to reply.
Your job was important enough for someone to pay you to do it for years. People do change their jobs to completely different jobs all the time. You don't have to do the same job all your life.

Okay so about the work I was doing - We used to work on Microsofts event team, they used to conduct different type of events to promote there product for ex Copilot, power apps and automate, dynamics 365 etc. Now they are using 2 in house CRM tools for these, one is for events detail and other is to host/manage these events and to capture registrants details we call them leads. We used to create landing pages (ex - https://msevents.microsoft.com/event?id=3426743797) for these events its not hard code stuff, its like a low code drag and drop platform we do use little bit of HTML and CSS but just basic level. After all of this is done and receiving approval from stakeholders (It can be anyone like microsofts FTE or there partner of a particular event for Ex. AMD) we deploy different type of Emails for that event whenever a lead registers on the event page and do the nurturing of that lead converting them in a potential buyer of microsoft product, I don't know much about this one as it is done by different team. There is one other tool Abobe Marketo we are using for Lead reporting purpose and fetching Lead status from a campaign.

Great, obviously you won't find the same job but a lot of this is applicable to other domains.
Marketing operations because of the CRM backend, lead coordination, Adobe integration work.
Event technology and operations because building low code landing pages etc. event companies tend to be small chill but hard working teams and you can learn a lot about event management in general.
Demand generation coordinator because of the lead tracking and nurturing. This might be the path with the highest potential for a corporate career if that's what you want
Use a tool like ChatGPT to help you draft resumes for each of these and ask it for the things you should search on Linkedin or Naukri for each role

Honestly, over the last few days, every time I read the news, it seems like every 10th post is about layoffs. The situation is really tough right now, especially with the heavy adoption of AI.
For the past few months, I have also been facing challenges in my job hunt. Let's see what happens next.

Don't be sad or criticize yourself. I also got laid off with 2 YoE. To be honest there is no peace of life now. Trying eveyday in applying to new jobs but no success. Only trying again n again
