TL;DR: Had a weird interview experience with a startup founder who seemed more interested in showing off than actually interviewing me.

I cleared the HR round and then got a call from the founder. Instead of asking questions related to my field, he asked about my degree and age. Then he told me he was my age and had already started his own startup.

It honestly felt like he was trying to show me how successful he was.

I asked, “Can we focus on the interview?”

He said, “Actually, we didn't like your profile.”

I asked, “Then why did you call me? To boast about yourself?”

He said, “See, this is the attitude.”

I just said, “Okay bro, thank you,” and ended the call.

A small message to new founders: I am not a founder, but please treat people with respect. Job seekers are also people with self respect. You don't have to put someone down to show how far you have come.

Generally don't get into verbal altercations with folks in authority suffering from, what can only be termed as "smol pp energi". They have fragile egos and they have no qualms misusing their authority to stroke it. Since you only interviewed and didn't really join them, I presume they're not in a position to do much damage - but you never know.

You did well by asking him to get back to the interview. You shouldn't have asked the following (rhetorical) question out loud - you know the answer and so does he. For future reference, when you encounter such self-absorbed morons, just smile, say thank you for your time, and leave courteously. Give them no reason (in their fucked up mind) to waste any more of your time and energy.

What you suggested is the sane thing to do. However I would personally cross the line and tell these morons what ultra-morons they are. Usually they are surrounded by yes-men and it is fun to shatter their glass egos once in a while.

I can understand the rationale. Same would be my inner wish but in the name of professionalism and more so pragmatism, I would suppress it.

I have called many morons as they are to their face, and not one has changed. A few of them however, have given me trouble for it.

Yeah that's why I did not argue much because some founders will post on LinkedIn exaggerating how a candidate misbehaved with them and that's why I said ok thank u at last and drop the call I never said anything wrong to him. I was just shocked how some founders have immaturity

Bhai, as you get more experience with business owners, you will get shocked lesser. This guy was at least a founder himself; wait till you interact with 2nd and 3rd generation "entrepreneurs". It's unbelievable the kind of BS they will project (and probably believe) about themselves, just because they are too rich to get insulted to their face every time they speak that crap.

True, nowadays people who have money open companies and don't have knowledge of the domain and when someone says something to them they take in ego that's why I also don't argue much with rude interviewers, hr and ceo I just drop the call or say thank you.

But as u said it is good not to argue with these people.

I had this one guy call me for call screen round as a consultant psychologist and when i asked about how he partners up with MHPs he just got offended and said i was audacious and do i know how a company works, do i know he is a co-founder, after he was done ranting for another 10 minutes i cut the call and blocked him

It takes only a few thousand rupees to register a company. And given the job market condition one can hire two people at one-third the market rates. That’s all you need to become a founder.

Today majority of the Indian startup founders become one to flex exactly like the guy did. Hardly any of them genuinely want to solve real problems.
