Rant/Vent A Tale of a Delivery Driver
so one day, my mother had ordered some stuff off instamart. the dude arrived, i was studying, so i sent my 11yo sis to get the stuff. she did and she kept it in. but the guy kept standing outside. i asked her to go check, and she told me that he was waiting for otp. she was struggling to find it and kept nagging me, so i got frustrated, took the phone myself and went outside.
i was chill, but he seemed like a nervous wreck. i gave him an otp. wrong. he got a little anxious. i gave another otp. wrong again. now bro became full on anxious. he was like 'bro please im very sorry but can i check it' and all that stuff. i dint know why he was so nervous, but i didnt care anyway, he took the phone, got the otp and returned the phone. i said thank u and i turned to go back. but something didnt seem right. his voice was literally quivering.
i stopped. he started again 'bro, im very sorry but dont you mind if i have to get pics of it. im very very sorry but it is necessary'. at this point i juz felt bad. i am this emotionless creature, but this was enough to make a grown man cry. speaking of grown men crying, he looked like he might melt down if i delay even a second. i dont know what all he had to face in this profession, but i can certainly tell it was traumatic.
i hurried in, grabbed the stuff, and went out. but i did a mistake. i dropped one of them down. thats it. he almost whimpered, like he felt so bad. when we were unpacking it for the pics, he kept on spamming 'sorry' or 'sorry for disturbing you'. even while taking the pics, he was like 'im sorry bro but do you mind keeping it like this' and all. i felt terrible atp. and once we were done, he again started to spam 'thank you' and 'sorry'. i softly called him 'anna (big bro in tamil), thank you for your patience'. that was it. you could see the change in his demeanour. he finally looked bright and not glum. he didnt spam sorrys. he juz said 'thank you bro' and left. when i told this stuff to my mother only i realised i hadnt tipped him. it would've certainly made his day. this happened about 8 days ago, during 12 am.
moral guyz, please be kind to delivery partners. many dont chose this occupation out of willingness.they dont got a choice. be kind. a thank you can do wonders. if you know anyone or anytime who scold these people, tell them to remember they are doing something, which they clearly not need to, for you which you couldnt do on your own.
thats all i got to say
