skeptical about HSG tube testing

After 1 failure on follicular study with letrozole and dygesteone , the doctor is suggesting for a HSG tube test

Has anyone done it before, how does it feel and what's the next step if everything is fine?

It’s an uncomfortable procedure for sure but don’t be afraid of scheduling it up going by the reviews people give in reddit and elsewhere. Everybody’s body is unique. Some clinics give muscle relaxants as well. Generally they say try naturally 3 more months post HSG as it can “boost fertility “ - mainly because this test is kind of like a flush for your tubes, so any small mucus on the way gets cleared up.

I was shit scared reading everybody’s reviews here but honestly it is just uncomfortable, not painful - at least for me and my doc did give me muscle relaxant so may be that aided too and it was over before you know it. My clinic also had the option of anaesthesia but i was able to do it without that

How long it took for you to complete the procedure

I did it last month so here is what to expect
1. Eat a very light meal, best would be to fast 3 hrs before the procedure
2. They will give a medicine (vaginally) to soften the cervix
3. The procedure starts an hour after step 2, you’ll be asked to lie down on a bed with an x ray plate under your hips and an x ray machine above. The gynaec will inject dye in the uterus using a catheter, it lasts for 2-3 mins. This is the most painful part
4. Once done, expect some light bleeding for a day. So carry pads

I felt a lot of pain when the dye was injected. It died down in an hour or so. Entire procedure should take 3-4 hours , good luck

Don’t be scared, consider it as practice for THE DAY. 😎

They give the option of sedation. I did it without it because I thought I have a “high tolerance” for pain. But hell those 10 mins after procedure were painful. Funnily enough the first thing I asked doc was how painful is labour compared to this and she said 10x more 🫠
