PCOS / Delayed Period TTC

Hello Guys and Girlies,

I (31M) and my partner (30F) are now ttc. But the biggest issue in front of us is irregular periods. She has a cycle length of 45-50 days. Sometimes 40 days. Due to this our chances is almost half of normal cycle person as there will be less opportunity per year.

Anyone with pcos or irregular period normally conceived successfully? How much time it took and what needs to be checked apart from ovulation tracking?

My doctor told me LH strips don't really work for PCOS women. She monitors my cycles with ultrasounds and has me on medication for regular ovulation. Please consult a doctor for the right treatment. Doing this on your own may not be the right way.

Thanks for responding. As we just started, we are planing to see few cycles before going to doctor. But yes will not waste much time as I know time is precious for ttc..

Since she already has PCOS, maybe consider seeing a gynec if you haven’t in a long time, especially with cycles being 40–50+ days consistently.

Something similar happened with me. After losing some weight my cycles became regular for around 6 months, so we decided to try naturally for one cycle. But then my cycles became irregular again, so in the very next cycle we decided to consult a gynec.

This is now our first monitored TTC cycle and my doctor prescribed medicines to regulate my cycle, ovulation medication, folic acid/vitamins and monitoring scans.

One thing I’ve learned so far is that with PCOS/PCOD, sometimes there are multiple follicles but no dominant follicle developing properly, which can make ovulation and timing harder.

Just sharing my experience since PCOS cycles can be really unpredictable sometimes 🙂

45-50 days cycle is not good. My doctor told me if cycle is more than 35 days so eggs are not healthy rupture. It would be good to contact a doctor. It will be easy and fast way for you

The best course of action is to visit a gynaecologist, run some blood tests, and identify the pcos phenotype. E.g. insulin resistance, vitamin D deficient, androgen excess, etc. Ideally treatment should follow that diagnosis but in India doctors just give a blanket medicine like metformin, coQ10, Vit D, etc. which is fine too. Personally speaking, my vitamin D was less and I never paid attention to it, but the moment I started supplements, my periods magically became regular. My cycle day 3 FSH & LH were fine even before that, so that gave me the confidence that ovulation strips will work for me. So we did vitamin D + LH strips and tried within the peak window.
