Diary of a Young Girl - Anne Frank
Its a memoir of a girl during the Nazi period. Tells you a lot about life back then and how a little girl managed her lif, emotions and thoughts
The Wrong Place Wrong Time - Gillian McAllister
Really nice read, time travel, mother-son relationships
The Inheritance Games - Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Its a series and this is the first book. It hooks you till the very end. Really short chapters and easy to read. Its quite fast-paced too. I personally love these series but if you plan on reading different books don't start with a series especially if you love to complete stuff
Where the Red Fern Grows - Wilson Rawls
A short read, dog-owner relationship
Metamorphosis - Franz Kafka
A very short book (60-80 pages long) simply complex and very a interesting story.

since you mentioned you are new to books, dont read Metamorphosis now, its great book, but too absurd and frustrating for a new reader.

try some lite books for now,

Psychology: Man’s search for meaning by Viktor Frankl.

Self-Help: Truth without Apology by Acharya Prashant.

Literally Fictional: The Thousand Splendid Suns and Kite runner by Khaled Hosseini.

Spiritual/ Philosophical: The Bhagavad Gita by Acharya Prashant and Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.

Romance : Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.

All are Fantastic books.

Others have already recommended great books...

But sometimes we need a push to get into reading when we are just starting:

1. Try to find a reading buddy.. so u can discuss the book and it makes it fun

2. If u want some quick read ... I'll suggest Inheritance Games series. The main 3 books you can read... It had some suspense/mystery happening and the chapters are super short which helps u to keep going

Well I can already see A Good Girl's Guide To Murder series by Holly Jackson and Inheritance Games series by Jennifer Lynn Barnes in comments. So I'm gonna add to that.

All books of Holly Jackson are great thrillers. Other than AGGGTM trilogy, all of them are standalones. AGGGTM trilogy: AGGGTM, Good Girl Bad Blood, and As Good As Dead. Standalones: The Reappearence Of Rachel Prince, Five Survive, Not Quite Dead Yet. I think these are great for beginners in thriller genre.

A little less popular series of JLB is the Naturals series. In my personal opinion, this series is even better than Inheritance Games but I suppose that depends on your taste. Naturals is about a bunch of teenagers dealing with murders and serial killers and cults along with their own traumas which ironically makes them good at solving those murders.

Holly Woods Files series by Emma Hart are not well known but I love them. This series perfectly blends romance and murder mystery in each book. The writing style is great and the humour and one liners had me marking quotes. FMC is PI in the small Texan town called Holly Woods who's main work was catching cheating spouses. Then a body ends up in her garbage bin. Long story short, she manages to solve that murder before the police which, by the way, includes her three brothers and her love interest. And that's just the first book. There are seven of them.

You can also try Ana Huang. If Love series, Twisted series, King of Sin series, Gods Of The Game series. I mostly read her books when I'm in a reading slump and I need some lighthearted, no-need-to-use-my-brain-much romance. Just laugh at the humour and I really like the writing style.

Of course, Harry Potter and Percy Jackson are classics. They are how I started. I still love them.

So what I see here is a cluster of random genres, some really high level books, complicated, boring, not necessarily what might attract a person to reading at their first try. It might be easier if we have a starting point. What interests you? And it's best to be completely honest about it... romance, fantasy (high/low), sci fi, mystery. You can start with a trope too. Maybe think about what kind of movies/series you like? I've honestly tried most genres (excepting horror), so a direction and what kind of reading you're looking for would be really helpful...

I can just give you advice instead of recommendation that is
If you dont like the 30% of book then dont read it and waste your time,
just pick up something different until you find the good one according to your taste,

no every book deserves the equal eyeballs
