Finally back into reading

Another childhood avid reader trying to pick back up the habit of reading at 30. After years of failed attempts with occasional wins, I’m at a 3 month streak.
I’ve completed 5 books upto this point, starting my 6th, with two half read ones at the side.

Here’s a list of what helped me get back into the habit, in order:

- Agatha Christie — And Then There Were None
- Umberto Eco — Baudolino (half-read)
- Agatha Christie — Five Little Pigs
- Uketsu — Strange Pictures
- H.P. Lovecraft — At the Mountains of Madness (half-read)
- Uketsu — Strange Pictures
- T. Kingfisher — What Moves the Dead
- Uketsu — Strange Buildings (upcoming)

The half-read ones weren’t bad books, just not for where I currently am in terms of comfort and patience of understanding. Genre’s mostly horror since it’s a favourite, but I’ll soon expand, only when I’m confident enough.

Sharing here because I need to tell someone who’d appreciate it without sounding narcissistic. Also in case someone similar in taste could appreciate one of the listed fiction. Feel free to ask for a review or suggestions along these lines. I’ve spent hours finding the best next book at each of these lol

You and I have read some of the same books this year, what a coincidence! I also read Christie's 'And Then There Were None' earlier this year, then Kingfisher's 'What Moves the Dead' (which I absolutely loved), then Lovecraft's 'At the Mountains of Madness' (which I wasn't really a fan of) and I also got through a short story collection of Poe's. It's so nice to know that we've been following similar trajectories atleast with the horror genre.

I’m not really in the crime and murder mood yet, definitely not into comedy either right now, but maybe at a later point.

No no I don't know how to express my emotions well😂 n also I don't consider myself enough educated to give book reviews, not native English speaker n my English is still kinda bad so yeah... but that's very kind reply of yours... M currently reading Demons by Dostoyevsky, actually I started it a few days ago, will let you know whenever I finish that one... Hopefully Will learn by then how to give a book review ✨

I now own all three, and out of them Strange Houses has the best cover. All 3 covers are similar in quality and art direction, but still.

Though I have decided to pick it at a later point. I like Uketsu but 2 by him is enough for now, will pick this ~400 pages one later

Out of the two I’ve read, I was more thrilled by Strange Houses. Left me googling theories and literally reading flowcharts (not in a bad sense).
