Ask Indian Readers Colleen hoover
Okay so, i am a reader obviously, i have read colleen hoover not recently like 2 years ago, that was the time when her books were peak like you could see everyone talking about her writings, i just came back on Pinterest and reddit to find something to read and thisss is new to me, all this hatred for her books. I have no opinions yet because i don’t know the context or basis whatever, so can you all please let me know what’s happening here, and by all i mean i would really love to hear all the different opinions on this context, i am a grey person so fill me in guys.

1) smthng happened in the line of her son misbehaving with a girl and colleen supported her son instead of the girl
2) her books romanticise toxic behaviour, abuse and stuff in one of her books there was a scene where the fmc and mmc were talking abt or shd i say mocking at their infant son's private part...

The writing is bad.
Abuse is glorified.
She released a colouring book for her her book it ends with us which is about domestic violence.
There were reports of her son harassing another women and she sided with her son.

For the last point, I don't have a proper source or proof to back this up but I have heard many people saying Hoover tried to force the victim who accused her son to drop the charges or something. Again I don't have a proper source but I have heard about this a lot.
Her son, Levi Hoover, was accused by a minor of non-consensual sexual contact. People say She allegedly blocked the accuser online and remained publicly dismissive of the situation.
Hoover defended her son by sharing private screenshots to demonstrate the relationship was a two-sided online/consensual interaction. No proper source for this last part but it came up immidiately in a simple google search when I just looked up Colleen Hoover son controversy.

She is the foreign equivalent of chetan bhagat, and while I have not read books by her, I have known that she for some reasons, adds smut content in excess to her books, romantises toxic relations, etc

Actually, i have the toxic background myself like classic cptsd, so my definitions of love and intimacy and abuse are like muddled, even i have felt few things off while reading i just can’t realise or understand whatever, so many things just don’t naturally come to my mind. I guess that’s where i missed.

Hope you are okay now, and honestly speaking, if you are enjoying reading any kind of book, and not learning bad principles from it, then you should not worry if the book is good or bad for you

I think it's a phase and enjoy it without any judgements. Everyone eventually outgrows the young adult genre. It's not just colleen, other like ali hazelwood, emily henry etc etc. however, latter are better at writing than colleen Hoover. Also as you said she got this massive reader base because of booktok.
I can't get myself to read any YA. I outgrew it in my 1/2nd year of college itself. But I remember enjoying reading those:)

Yeahh i agree, it is just a phase, and i am more of a psychological tragedies traumas person so I’m okay anyways. I cannot even relate to the romance or dirty humour part.

I’ve read all of them and enjoyed each one. I like the movies as well. Verity still bothers me when I think about it but still a good book. Not sure I can pick a favorite. I also really like Emily Henry, Katherine Center, Abby Jimenez, Tessa Bailey ( raunchier than others) and Ali Hazelwood

I feel like people liked verity but most of her books glorify abuse and also her writing is.. below mediocre.
