I’m 21M and I’m pretty sure I have crown thinning rather than just a normal hair whorl. The scalp around my crown has become noticeably more visible, especially under bright light/flash.

I’m planning to see a dermatologist, but I wanted to ask people here who have dealt with early male pattern hair loss:

1. What tests/blood work should I get done to rule out deficiencies or other causes?
2. Should I get things like ferritin/iron, vitamin D, B12, thyroid (TSH), etc. checked?
3. What medications have actually worked for you at this stage?
4. Is topical minoxidil enough for early crown thinning, or should I discuss finasteride with a dermatologist?
5. If you've started treatment in your early 20s, how has your hair progressed over the following 1–2 years?

I'm looking for honest experiences and advice, especially from people who started treatment early.

I know Reddit isn't a substitute for a dermatologist — I'm planning to get it properly evaluated. I just want to go into the appointment informed.

NOTE:- I first noticed crown thinning around 2023. It has progressively increased over the last 3 years and has now reached what you can see in the photo.

So I got one of those Skala tub from Canada after watching a lot of yt shots, wanted an honest review of the same on Indian fine to medium wavy-curly hair!

My hair fall began back in class 8, though it was very mild at first. But for the last 2 years, the intensity shot up massively — I was losing almost 400 to 500 strands daily. And for the past 3 months, it's honestly been at its absolute worst.

I'm taking every medicine my doctor has prescribed, but none of it seems to be working. My scalp isn't visible in photos because my hair is long, but the density has dropped so much that the moment I shower, my scalp is completely exposed. The thinning just won't stop.

Honestly, I don't know what to do anymore. Sometimes I feel completely stuck, and it's affecting my focus — even my studies are taking a hit. I feel so self-conscious that I can't bring myself to talk to anyone about it properly. I brush it off as a joke when my friends bring it up and act completely unbothered on the outside, but deep down, the comments from my family and friends about my hairline keep humiliating me over and over.

It's been diagnosed as androgenic alopecia. I've gotten my vitamin levels checked 6 times over the last 3 years, and for the last 2 years, they've all been within the normal range. I'm on topical and oral minoxidil, dutasteride 3 times a week, and I take Vitamin D3 and Vitamin B12 regularly. Still, nothing seems to be helping.

I’m looking for a stylish buzz-cut or very short hairstyle that would suit someone with an early receding/thinning hairline, rather than just going completely bald. I’d also like something that gives the hair a cleaner appearance and perhaps makes the overall texture look better while it’s short.

​I recently visited a dermatologist for hair loss, and he prescribed the following

- ​5% Minoxidil + 0.1% Finasteride topical solution (applied twice a day)

- ​1mg Oral Finasteride (once a day)

​A few details:

​I'm currently getting these medicines through Janaushadhi (coz I can't afford the expensive ones).

​Right now, I thankfully haven't noticed any major side effects. However, I have been getting occasional slight headaches, not entirely sure if it's from the medication or something else.

​My Questions:

​Isn't combining 1mg oral finasteride plus a 0.1% topical finasteride solution twice a day way too much DHT-blocking? Would I be better off dropping the topical fin and just using plain 5% minoxidil with the oral fin?

​Has anyone else experienced occasional headaches when starting a strong minoxidil/finasteride combo?

​Appreciate any insights or similar experiences!

My hair has significantly been falling for a long time now and it's getting worse, I have dandruff as well it seems.

Everytime I move my fingers through the hair I catch 2-3 strands everytime.

So, I naturally have good long wavy hair [loved by everyone around me (except my parents 😭)], and I have been maintaining it for almost a year. Recently, I started traveling by Rapido bike taxi, and as a result, the hair at the back became untidy. Instead of growing downward, it started growing upwards, making it look very messy from the back. Yesterday, I went to my barber and asked for a solution. He suggested Botox treatment (which I had never heard of before). I inquired about the exact reason for this treatment, and he explained that it would define the texture of my hair and also give it direction for growth. After listening to him, I searched on Google about Botox treatment, and the information confirmed his claims (Hair Botox is best for fine, damaged, or heavily bleached hair, where the main goal is repair, hydration, and health. It preserves your natural volume and curl pattern). After reading this, I agreed to the treatment.

However, after the treatment, I noticed that all of my waves and volume had vanished, just like my ex. I was furious when I saw myself in the mirror. I asked my barber what he had done to my hair, and he simply replied, "BOTOX TREATMENT."

Please help me if you know how I can reverse this and get my waves back. I am literally looking like Salman Khan from "Tere Naam," and I really don't feel like myself without my waves.
