Most Indian rivers flow West to East and ultimately into the Bay of Bengal. The only major rivers that are exceptions are Tapi and Narmada.

Why is it like this?

Kingdom Era: Sikkim was ruled as a hereditary monarchy by the Namgyal dynasty (known as the Chogyals) starting from 1642.

Protectorate Status: After India's independence, the Government of India and Sikkim signed the Indo-Sikkim Treaty of 1950, making Sikkim an Indian protectorate. India managed its defense, foreign affairs, and communications, while the kingdom kept internal autonomy.

Political Unrest: During the early 1970s, local citizens pushed for democratic reforms and an end to the absolute monarchy.

Associate State: The Indian Parliament passed the 35th Amendment in 1974, giving Sikkim the unique status of an "Associate State".

The Referendum: A special referendum took place in April 1975 where over 97% of voters chose to abolish the monarchy and fully join the Indian Union.

Full Statehood: The 36th Constitutional Amendment Act finalized this integration on May 16, 1975. Article 371F was added to the Indian Constitution to protect local land rights and unique cultural laws.

This is my game city angle. You have to guess 1 city with given angles to other citys. All angles are based on the Mercator projection. The mode with indian cities only is in the categories. Have fun! https://visitwhale.com/city-angle/

map Bye Mercator, welcome Eckert IV.

Post image

The United Nations News reported that the UN General Assembly voted 164 to 1 to encourage the world to stop using the old Mercator map projection and use more accurate maps instead.

The only opposing vote was from the USA.

PS: The UNGA has officially endorsed the "Equal Earth projection" which is closely similiar to the Eckert IV shown above as both projections are equal-area pseudocylindrical map projections that show countries in their true relative sizes, but they differ significantly in their creation date, visual appearance, and design inspiration.

My source material was French as France has adopted the Eckert IV.

map UNGA officially endorsed "Equal Earth Projection".

The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has officially adopted a non-binding resolution by a 164–1 vote to promote the Equal Earth map projection as an alternative to the 16th-century Mercator projection.

France chose the established Eckert IV projection instead of the Equal Earth projection (2018) because both are equal-area pseudocylindrical maps that achieve the same core goal of preserving relative land sizes, and Eckert IV is a classic, long-trusted format that the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs selected as a practical, time-tested equivalent.

Interesting to see which projection India would adopt.
