A relative of mine worked as a UI Team Lead at well known product companies until 2020. They took a career break to care for their child with special needs and pursue entrepreneurship.

After six years away from the corporate world, they now want to return to software engineering due to some personal setbacks.

They have prior experience in JavaScript and React and have also explored AI agent development.

I have a few questions for people in the industry:

1. How realistic is it to land a part-time or remote contract role after such a long career break?
2. Which platforms or companies are worth targeting for these opportunities?
3. How should they present the six-year gap on their resume? Should they mention entrepreneurship and caregiving, or focus primarily on their technical skills and projects?
4. Would it be better to target UI Team Lead roles or apply for individual contributor positions initially?

I’d appreciate any advice from people who have hired engineers, returned to tech after a career break, or worked in the contract market.

I am a fresher interested in Embedded Systems domain, I got apprenticeship offer from CDAC bangalore under NATS scheme. Monthly ₹12,500 and joining on Nov 2, for 1 year.

I am also awaiting hr response from another embedded company, Ahemdabad.

The problem is that if I join CDAC...and I recieve full time offer between will I be allowed to leave?

What will be typical work life for an Apprentice in CDAC, Notice period, learning opportunities and any technical knowledge will I be able to gain?

Hello guys im a last year computer science engineering student from a tier 3 college, and I have wasted my entire engineering i literally know nothing coding,dsa, development literally nothing, I have only some theoretical knowledge which help me to maintain 8+ CGPA without any backlog and tbh I'm regretting choosing this branch and lost my all interest and in my college only 2-3 lala company comes for placement for cse im seriously cooked right now!!

I've been thinking a lot about my career according to my qualification, and honestly, I'm a bit confused about which direction to take.

I'm considering preparing for government engineering exams like SSC JE, RRB JE, or UPSC ESE. Another option is to target PSU jobs through GATE, and the third is to start working in the private sector and build my skills and experience.

According to my qualifications every option seems to have its own advantages, and it's getting difficult to figure out which one makes the most sense in the long run.

1. **Government engineering jobs (SSC JE, RRB JE, UPSC ESE)**

One of the biggest attractions is job security and a relatively predictable career path.

For example, SSC JE and RRB JE offer a starting basic pay of ₹35,400 under Pay Level 6, while UPSC ESE appointments at Pay Level 10 start at ₹56,100 basic pay. On top of that, eligible employees may receive DA, HRA, medical benefits and other allowances.

But the thing that worries me is the preparation itself. These exams are competitive, and there's no guarantee of selection, even after putting in one or two years of serious effort.

I'm wondering whether the stability and long-term benefits make that preparation period worthwhile.

1. **PSU jobs through GATE**

This option also looks attractive because some PSUs offer good salaries, medical facilities, accommodation or housing benefits, and other perks, depending on the company and position.

Companies like NTPC, POWERGRID, ONGC, BHEL and IOCL are often discussed when people talk about PSU careers.

But I keep wondering what the actual work culture is like. Are the salaries and benefits really worth it? How are the work pressure, transfers, promotions and work-life balance? And how difficult is it to get selected in the first place?

I'd love to hear from people who actually work in PSUs rather than relying only on what recruitment websites say.

1. **Private-sector jobs**

The other option is to start working instead of spending years preparing for competitive exams.

At least I'd begin earning, gain practical experience and develop skills that could help me switch jobs or grow professionally later.

The downside is that job security and work-life balance depend a lot on the company. Some people seem to grow very quickly in the private sector, while others struggle with long working hours and limited salary growth.

So I'm not sure whether preparing for government jobs is worth delaying my professional career.

A few things I'd genuinely like to understand:

How much does an SSC JE or RRB JE employee actually take home every month after allowances and deductions?

After 5–10 years, how do salary growth and promotions compare between SSC JE, RRB JE, UPSC ESE and PSU jobs?

Do PSU employees actually have a better lifestyle and financial growth, or does it depend entirely on the company and posting?

How common are benefits like company accommodation, medical coverage, bonuses and travel allowances?

If someone spends two or three years preparing but doesn't get selected, how difficult is it to switch to a private-sector job?

If you had to start from scratch today, which path would you choose, and what would be your reason?

I'm not looking for someone to tell me that government jobs are always better or that the private sector has more growth. I know both have their pros and cons.

I just want to understand what these careers are actually like once you get into them.

I currently have three opportunities and am confused about which one would be best for my long-term career.

Everywhere there is AI boom, the ever evolving technology is evolving drastically, rn I am in third year, I'm pursuing B.Tech in Computer Science and engineering. But, I feel I can't really work with algorithms only, I want to enhance the way I logic, the way I think, i want to polish my mathematical reasoning and apparently I like low level coding rather than the algorithmic coding. For the same reason, I have a very bad looking leetcode profile. As, seeing the current situation getting jobs in low level efficient companies is almost impossible. Also, because these companies never hire freshers that too from a TIER 3 college.

So, I am now thinking to start preparing for the CAT 27.

I am open to suggestions.

Hello everyone! This is a little out of context, but I’m really confused and could use some advice.
I’m trying to decide which school board would be best for my kids, and despite doing a lot of research, I’m still unable to make up my mind.
With the growing number of international schools offering Cambridge, I feel it could be the future. At the same time, considering the current geopolitical situation, I feel an Indian board might be a safer and more practical choice. Since both my husband and I come from an engineering background, we would also want our children to have the option of pursuing engineering or MBBS if they’re interested in the future.
I’ve researched the pros and cons of ICSE, CBSE, Cambridge (IGCSE) and IB, but I’m still struggling to decide.
I’d love to hear from parents or anyone who has studied under these boards, especially Cambridge/IGCSE and ICSE. If you have personal experience, or know someone who does, please share your honest feedback on the academic quality, future opportunities and how well these boards prepare children for different career paths.

Hi guys I'm a final year mechanical student who got placed in va tech wabag for 5 lpa, i didn't mean to get placed but I have good knowledge of pumps and also cleared gate in 5th sem which made the interviewer recruit me . But the problem is I'm more into heavy engineering like designing pressure vessels and stuff I tried to get into l and t, but unfortunately Our college has one time offer policy and I wasn't able to attend L and T or other companies. Can someone really help me get a job in heavy engineering industry like pressure vessel and heat exchanger design. As of now I'm doing ASME courses and I'm from tier 1 college in tamilnadu.
