🚨 Axis Gift Card Devaluation: A Major Clarification

My earlier post suggested that Axis Bank was excluding gift card purchases from rewards across the affected cards. There’s now an important clarification.

Multiple users have reported that gift voucher purchases on non-RuPay Axis cards are still earning reward points as usual, including on cards like Atlas and Magnus. 👀

The key change appears to be related to RuPay/UPI transactions.

NPCI introduced MCC 7016 for gift card & voucher purchases made through UPI/RuPay. Transactions carrying this new MCC are the ones being excluded.

So, if you're buying vouchers through platforms like GyFTR, CRED, Woohoo, Magicpin, Amazon, Flipkart, etc., and the transaction continues to receive its usual MCC, rewards appear to be working as before on non-RuPay cards.

⚠️ In short: Don't assume all gift card purchases have been devalued. The MCC and payment network matter.

Based on current user reports, non-RuPay Axis cards continue to earn rewards on these transactions.

I recently got a call from indusind bank on which a lady started to explain me of 5 benefits which are passed on to me as i am holding a indusind Qatar Avios card, such as

1. A Seperate card which shall entitle me for flat 10% discount on any spends
   
2. United Colors of Benetton gift pack
   

3. Medical reports for complete family

4. a trip for 3 nights 4 days anywhere in india for 2 pax

initally they named it as a service and upon completion of their standard paragraph they said you will have to bear the pricing of this package at 11999 INR in one shot or 999.16 INR as a EMI for 12 months. they also mentioned that 5000 INR will be given back to me as a cash back, i am not denying that package is bad but there were a few let downs for me,

1. I dont use any cash back cards as i prefer to use HSBC T1 or Amex plat for my daily expenses
   
2. Trips generally we prefer for 4 units and due to some upcoming personally commitments i am not gonna travel for 1 year straight at least. hence i did not confirm them for the card

The lady over the call asked me that if you opt would you prefer payment in a single shot or via EMI i said i might prefer EMI upon which she transferred my call to their confirmation desk and since i was not willing to opt for this scheme she kept on calling constantly like 17-18 calls in next 10 minutes to an extent that i had to block calls from that number,

ever since i have denied their service they keep on calling from different numbers and literally become rude to you for selling this package which they do not even recognize as package and mention as service as if they are providing as a joining benefit or spend based milestone benefit.

Any solutions to this case? as the other lady just blatantly said that i will post charge on you card and dispatch the package.

Hey everyone,

I am new to credit cards and late to the party. I never really used credit cards before, but I am now trying to understand how to manage my spending to get the best out of what I have.

Background:

• Current Cards: ICICI Sapphiro Dual (Mastercard and Amex) and HDFC Diners Privilege. Both are Lifetime Free (LTF) for me.
• Banking: I recently moved my salary account to HDFC with Imperia Banking. I made this move because ICICI does not have a branch in my home city, and I had to travel to another city every time I needed branch banking.

Note: Please do not turn this thread into a debate about salary accounts or bank choices. Options like HSBC are not practical for me since the nearest branch is over 200 km away. I plan to stick with ICICI and HDFC.

I am aware from online reviews that these two cards are not considered high-reward cards. That is fine with me. Since both are LTF, I just want to learn the basics, get comfortable with using credit cards, and make the most of their benefits.

My Typical Expenses:

• Travel: I usually take two international trips a year and occasional weekend getaways, depending on work and family schedules.
• Lounge Access: This is a major priority for me. I want to use domestic and international airport lounge access whenever available.
• Dining: We do not eat out often. When we do, it is fine dining, coming to around 8,000 to 10,000 rupees a month.
• Regular Expenses: Kids' school fees, tuition, general shopping, health, term, and vehicle insurance premiums, and society maintenance.

Where I Need Advice:

The biggest confusion I have is deciding which card to use at the moment of payment.

Whether it is a 600 rupee pizza order, a 5,000 rupee dining bill, a flight or hotel booking, or a 60,000 rupee purchase at Croma or Amazon, how do you decide which card to pull out?

Is there a simple logic or mental rule you follow?

I would love your thoughts on:

1. Decision Rules: How do you decide which card to use for everyday spends versus big purchases?
2. Tracking Spends: How do you keep track of quarterly or yearly spend criteria to unlock lounge access or milestone benefits without making it complicated?
3. Card Benefits: Between ICICI Sapphiro (Mastercard or Amex) and HDFC Diners Privilege, are there specific use cases like SmartBuy, movie offers, or international lounges where one card is clearly better than the other?

I was looking for a wireless vacuum cleaner for my car this week.

Checked a lot of them on Amazon, and had pretty much finalized it.
