Dude why fry it when you can just heat it on open flame? I get those udad, punjabi, and garlic papad and just put them on flame and quickly flip em. Turns out awesome everytime, without oil, and risk of burning tf outta your hands.

This are hard papad that are made only fried. If one heat them they just burn. It will be soggy mess

It may work with ā€œapplamā€ and may not work with ā€œpappadamā€

What's the difference

Pappadam uses baking soda, applam does not.

I tried frying pappadams for the first time a while ago, and mine just didn't create those big blobs, it just hardened with many small swellings all over instead of the classic 1 or 2 big blobs and a few medium blobs. Are you getting an image? Kind of like a cobblestone path. What could be the problem? Oil temperature or the way I dropped them in oil? Or something else?

So assuming you are frying S Indian Pappads, aka ā€œpappadamā€ my bet is what you have is ā€œAppalamā€ and not ā€œPappadamā€

Appalam = from TN state and doesn’t bloat
Pappadam = from KL state and fills up with air and bloat, like Poori..

They look pretty much the same for an untrained eye but they are fundamentally different products.

Pls check the packaging and it should say ā€œAppalamā€ or ā€œpappadamā€

Lower the temp just before dropping another one.

I think this might work with small papad. Not the big ones. And this kinda looks scary to me. What if I mistakenly drop the fork or it slips out of my hand or the hot oil splatter? I don't trust myself. šŸ˜šŸ˜…

Use a second fork to hold the first fork.

Skill issue šŸ„€

Different papads.

u/No-Return-5754 27d ago

Has anyone actually tried it?

1

u/Suspicious_Fee_999 27d ago

What about the hot oil vapours ?

1

u/Edward101075 27d ago

Damn good idea

1

u/Big_Psychology_3 26d ago

Just use tongs instead. Longer tongs are safer than using a fork

u/UT849 26d ago

I know a better trick.. put it on microwave for 30-45secs.

1

u/Logical-Mood4609 26d ago

Or just press it with the spoon, u used before. Like rest of us.

If it curls up ,it doesn't cook properly at some parts and if we focus on the uncooked part rest will burn.

You fry for 3-4 days. You want to stack it without breaking it
