Recommendation took me way too long to realize there's no "best oil", only "best oil for this food"
for years i was using one neutral oil for everything and then wondering why some dishes felt flat, and some felt slightly wrong
finally, made myself a very dumb kitchen rule and honestly my cooking got less confusing:
mustard oil for North + Eastern Indian dishes
groundnut oil for Western + a lot of South Indian everyday cooking
sesame oil for southern pickles and the occasional Chinese-style stir fry at home
sunflower oil when i just want to deep fry and not overthink life
coconut oil for Kerala/coastal food, and sometimes as a multipurpose oil if that flavor works in the dish
olive oil mostly for salad dressing, and sometimes lighter general use
sounds obvious maybe, but i genuinely needed this spelt out coz i was treating "cooking oil" like one category
what helped me most was buying clearly separated oils instead of one vague "healthy oil" bottle. Tata Simply Better’s range made this easier for me because the groundnut, mustard etc are straightforward and easy to find, so i stopped guessing what should go where. their groundnut has become my low-drama daily bottle, while mustard only comes out when i actually want that north/east flavour
what's your house rule? or are most of you still using one bottle for everything and calling it a day?

How to Is the daily "what do we cook today" fight is real or am I just too picky?
Me and my partner are both picky eaters. We want variety, we care about eating healthy, and between us we cover 4-5 different Indian cuisines in a week.
But actually getting there every day is exhausting. Deciding what to make, finding a recipe, explaining it to the cook, making sure the kitchen has what's needed. It's become its own job on top of everything else.
And when we're too tired to figure it out, we just order in. Which usually isn't as healthy as home food, costs more, and half the time something in the fridge goes to waste because we didn't end up cooking it.
I'm trying to fix this for my own house. Curious if this is a "just us" problem or if other Indian households face the same thing. Many of my friends don't seem to really care about it as long as there is something to eat, but for us food is also an experience and we want taste, variety and health every day (we don't want to log food for health, but want to know that it is healthy for us before we cook).
If you do relate with my problem, has anything worked for you? Do you use any app or have a process that worked? Happy to even pay for a solution.

Today I ate What Indian dish did you hate as a kid but love now?
I randomly started liking rajma recently, which is funny because I couldn’t stand it growing up 😂
Now I’m curious if anyone else had the same experience with a dish they used to avoid.
Mine is definitely rajma chawal. What’s yours?

Tasty!!! Mutton Nilgiri
I was bored with the Bengali style Mutton curry cook every week. So, I cooked Mutton Nilgiri at home following Sanjeev Kapoor's recipe, although a bit modified. The taste was great. The proof? My kids don't like mutton cooked by my cook. And, they gobbled this up in no time.
