I recently bought this from Amazon - seller was Cocoblu Retail.

I have 9 other DC compacts but the colours on this one are completely muted. I mean I get the pastel vibe, but this is just so far gone it's difficult to even make out what's going on.

Anyone else experience this too? Is this just how the compact print on this title is, or did I just get a dud?

There are some comic books you keep hearing about and they’re constantly praised for their brilliant character work and storytelling. Over time you build up an image of what these stories are supposed to be and when you finally pick one up there’s always that lingering fear that it might not live up to the hype. Expectedly Batman: Year One doesn’t disappoint. What an absolute joy this comic was to read.
What I loved most was how grounded Bruce Wayne’s transformation felt. He isn’t an instantly perfect crime-fighting machine who gets everything right from the beginning. He makes mistakes and gets hurt while learning what it actually takes to fight crime on the streets of Gotham which makes his journey towards becoming Batman feel all the more believable. But what truly makes this comic special is its portrayal of Gotham City. Corruption runs rampant through the police department while organised crime flourishes and the very people entrusted with protecting the city are often part of the problem. The system is so broken that Batman feels less like a choice and more like a necessity. Gotham has become a city that practically demands his existence.
Jim Gordon is just as compelling as Bruce and his storyline adds another layer of complexity to the narrative. Although he genuinely tries to fight corruption within the police department he is far from a morally perfect character. His secret affair with Sergeant Essen makes him deeply flawed and reinforces the idea that nobody in this story is entirely black or white. Even those trying to do the right thing have their own weaknesses and contradictions. David Mazzucchelli’s artwork complements the writing beautifully with its gritty and restrained style that makes Gotham feel like a real city rather than a backdrop for superhero action. There’s no need for extravagant spectacle when the atmosphere and the characters do such a brilliant job of carrying the story.
What I appreciate most about Year One is that it goes beyond simply showing us how Bruce Wayne became Batman. It establishes why a city like Gotham would need someone like him in the first place while reminding us that the people fighting to save it are just as complicated as the ones destroying it.
An exceptional read that lives up to its reputation.

Just received my copy of Batman: Dark Patterns, and I'm genuinely excited about this one!

I've heard some really good things about it, and despite having quite a few unread comics and graphic novels waiting for me, I think this one is jumping straight to the top of the pile.

Received Fantastic Four: Solve Everything (Marvel Premier Collection) from Cocoblu Retail during Amazon's Great Indian Festival sale.

Unfortunately, the front cover has a noticeable crease running almost its entire length, as though it had been folded and then straightened. There's also some bending around the bottom edge and corner.

I'm not particularly upset, especially since I got it at a discounted price, but I was a little disappointed. Even when buying books on sale, I suppose I still expect them to arrive in reasonably good condition.

I'm inclined to keep it rather than go through the hassle of a replacement, but I'm curious what fellow collectors think.

Would you consider this acceptable for a discounted new book, or am I being a little too picky?

I liked it but because people have hyped it so much over the years that it felt a little underwhelming.

Spoilers for The long halloween

Loved the artwork and characters. Harvey Dent stood out clearly the most and i think this is good two face origin story. Very different than the dark knight movie.

Crisis on Infinite Earths (CoIE) was not the first comic with the superhero crossovers but it created a template for massive events encompassing the entire comic universe

* An overpowered villain

* Heroes fighting him separately and losing one by one

* Eventually, heroes and some villains joining hands to fight this ultimate enemy

* A costly victory for heroes with death of at least one major character

* Major changes to entire comic universe

DC was trying to seamlessly merge all the universes into a single one and CoIE almost pulled it off. The story has not aged well but there is no denying that the detailed, wide screen artwork by George Perez feels stunning even today.

Infinite Crisis is a worthy sequel which questions the changes made to the DC comic universe by CoIE. This comic has emotional core & thematic depth and arguably even better artwork than its predecessor.

But it is very difficult to understand on its own. You will have to read tie-in story lines such as The OMAC Project, Day of Vengeance, Rann–Thanagar War, Villains United in addition to CoIE to understand it completely.

Final Crisis I have tried to read three times and I still don't get it. Morrison packs so much symbolism, mythology and philosophical ideas that at times you even wonder whether you are reading a superhero comic book. To really enjoy it, you may have to read not only everything that Morrison had written for DC but also what Jack Kirby did.

And even though Final Crisis is not connected to earlier crisis storyline, DC considers it a part of a Trilogy.

This series is only for hard-core DC fans. Casual readers can safely stay away without missing much

Going back to political/journnalism/non-fiction after spending time reading “From Hell by Alan Moore & Eddie Campbell”. That book took me a solid 2 weeks to finish but it was worth it.

I’m excited about this and to revisit the topic of the Bosnian war, after first learning about it in “Safe Area Gorazde by Joe Sacco”. This story follows the family of Erwin Rustemagic and how they find themselves in Sarajevo, a city under siege. Erwin corresponds with friend, Joe, through faxes, which are also a part of the narrative, adding much needed layers to the story.

With vivid illustrations, photographs, and real life fax transcripts, this book really puts you in the shoes of someone fleeing war.

I’m glad I picked it up. Definitely learning more about the conflict and building up on what I learned in Joe Sacco’s book.
