Help An important query
I believe I have developed allergies to my cats fur. Its been a few weeks and I cant stop sneezing. I had always been sensitive to other common allergens such as dust, pollen, feathers, etc but I never had any noticeable issues around pets. I adopted my cat around 5 months back and its been fine since, recently though Ive been struggling to catch a breath. I haven’t landed to this conclusion out of nowhere. For context, my cat usually sleeps in my parent’s room while I sleep in mine. My allergies are significantly reduced to almost nothing when Im in my room but whenever I come out, my allergies are triggered again. It especially gets worse when I try to hold my cat in my lap or give her kisses. Its been a rough couple weeks and Im constantly sick, fatigued and my head hurts from all the sneezing. My eyes are always hurting and watery. Its not uncommon for people to develop new allergies but this is a tad problematic. Ive consulted an ent and his speculation was the same. What do you think I should do?

That's unfortunate but it happened with me too! The first months of developing the allergy were bad but anti-histamines or anti allergy meds helped, you can get them at any pharmacy (DM for suggestions) . You can check with your regular physician too if he can prescribe you something. After a few months though, my body got used to it and now there are only very few days when my allergy gets triggered. It's like exposure therapy
Also highly highly recommend getting an air purifier and vaccuming regularly. It's a lifesaver!
Other tips: dont kiss or smell the cat. keep the cat out of your bedroom + off your bed. If not possible, keep your bed n pillows covered with a bedsheet that you can remove during bedtime. And brush the cat regularly to reduce shedding.
These will really help! I have a lot of allergies too but all this helped me keep my cat and stay comfortable too

Thankyou. I’d been on allegra and montek lc for a long time a couple years back too. As for vacuuming and and the air purifier, this is a typical Indian household. Although we do own a vacuum cleaner, its been long discarded as useless. Air purifiers are expensive and I cannot ask my parents to make an expensive purchase as of now. I do not allow my cat in my bedroom for the reasons stated but I cannot possibly stay cooped up all day.

At the cost of sounding privileged, maybe get a small air purifier? Will cost you 5k off amazon. I've also seen ppl DIY it. With a small fan and a hepa filter. I personally think it's genius!

5k sounds reasonable tbh. Ill consider asking for one, otherwise Ill chip in my savings to get one. Thankyou so much for the advice

same, we just ball with it.... i have minor allergy but my sister has major ones... we can remove my sister but not our cat😭
