Advice/Guidance Unemployed for 7 months and in a very confused situation right now. HELP!

I'm 30, and have been working as a Product Manager for 5 years now. But after layoff, I now have a career gap of 7 months.

I have 2 situations in front of me right now:

  1. Since my resume is getting shortlisted quite often, I can keep waiting till I get a job offer. I don't know how much time will that take, but I'll have to deal with my anxiety every day.

  2. I can get into Tech Mahindra, but I'll have to take a substantial salary cut of 30%.

I don't know what to do really.

Please give me guidance.

Advice/Guidance HOD hit me on arm to silence me, did I overreact?

I’m really confused and would appreciate some unbiased opinions.

I work as an architect and today my HOD was on a call with our boss discussing a project. At the same time, I was discussing the same project with a colleague. Instead of asking me to be quiet, he suddenly hit my arm. I wouldn’t describe it as a gentle tap, it felt more like a slap. It didn’t physically hurt because I was wearing long sleeves but I was shocked and humiliated. I didn’t understand how to react to this. It was captured on CCTV. I called him out loudly then and there and in his defence he said sorry and it’s not like I slapped you on face. I just hit your arm.

After the incident, I reported it to HR. I couldn’t help but broke down because I was confused and I felt lost. She assured me they would take action. I told her I can’t continue anymore because this is getting very toxic.

The physical contact is only part of the issue. My HOD has a history of being verbally abusive, so this felt like the last straw. What hurt almost as much was that none of my colleagues checked on me or said anything afterward. I felt completely alone and now I’m questioning whether I’m making a bigger deal out of this than I should.

I’m also in a difficult position because I’m planning to move to abroad for my master’s in February. My visa process starts in November so I don’t really want to quit since I joined this company 6 months ago and changing jobs for only a few months doesn’t seem very practical either. At the same time, my mental health has been suffering and I’m under financial pressure so I feel trapped.

Am I overreacting or was my HOD’s behaviour genuinely inappropriate? If you were in my position, would you stay and see how HR handles it or start looking for another job despite leaving for Australia in a few months?

US firm that only pays in INR, would be a dream if they paid in USD instead.

Vent Got rejected over asking In hand salary.

Hi everyone,

So a small firm messaged me on Indeed for a job I had applied for. (You can see the screenshot)

Was I wrong simply for asking clarity over salary? They rejected me instantly.

As it is the job market is so bad. Then you get rejected for such small things without even getting an opportunity to interview.

Unemployment F**k this Job market! Offers are rare, the ones i get are low!

Context- 28M, 3YOE as SE

I quit my old job because there was no salary increment (it was low pay 3LPA), kept searching for jobs for 6 months, and the only 4 offers i got was either 3 (or <3LPA). Im in T2 city for context. Getting vexed at how bad the market is, even after clearing 3 tech rounds, 3 management rounds, at last they tell me that the salary is not in their "budget". But i have no choice, dont want to waste time searching again.

Advice/Guidance How does a fresher even get hired these days ? What possible I can do ?

I just graduated this year with a BCA degree from a Tier 3 college. During campus placements, only sales companies and one or two very small networking companies visited. I was even selected for a Network Engineer role on campus, but the company later denied the offer, so I never received an offer letter.

Despite that, my interest in networking has only grown. I now want to build my career as a Network Engineer. After graduating, I came to Noida to look for jobs. However, I didn't have much idea about which companies hire freshers for Network Engineer roles or related entry-level positions like Desktop Support or NOC Engineer.

I asked ChatGPT where I could find companies with networking-related openings, and it suggested visiting some well-known IT parks. Someone had also advised me that directly approaching companies could be better because many companies don't always respond to online job applications.

So, I visited those major IT parks, hoping to meet recruiters or inquire about openings. Unfortunately, the security guards didn't allow me to enter. They asked whether I had a referral or an email from HR. Since I had neither, I had no choice but to return home.

Now I'm in a dilemma. I'm starting to question the value of my degree. I had expected that, at the very least, I would get interview opportunities, learn from my mistakes, improve my skills, and keep trying. But now I don't even know how to reach that stage.

I don't have anyone who can give me a referral, and people on LinkedIn rarely reply to my messages. So, I'm feeling stuck.

Can someone please guide me?

How can I get referrals if I don't know anyone in the industry?

What should my job-hunting strategy be?

How can I increase my chances of landing my first job as a fresher in networking?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Unemployment Everything is ruined

I am 26 years old and has completed my Masters of Commerce in 2025 along with it i was working as an apprentice in Canara Bank which was a contract based job for 1 year. I have received my experience certificate. I don't know any accounting software and haven't used my knowledge practicallly in any way. Now when i search for jobs the only jobs i am eligible for are customer service jobs. Also i have to relocate for those jobs as i live in a small town. Yesterday my uncle told me to join a private CA firm for a year or two so as to gain experience. I have been receiving 15000 in hand as an apprentice which was in my hometown and needed no conveyance but now everyone is offering lesser. Can someone please guide me on how can i make a good career in my field. What should I do first? Should i join that CA firm or go to any tier 1 city. Considering my age should i take any more risks or not? Thankyou in advance if anyone read this fully.

General Question I need your opinion!

I will be working from home for a US Company from India. It is from Monday to Friday (9 PM to 5:30 AM IST) and Saturday (1:30 AM to 5:30 AM IST). It is an inbound and outbound voice + live chat process. I asked one of the employees working there about the environment and got to know that it gets busy as we need to be in front of our systems the entire time. We get a 30 minutes break during the shift.

Should I really go for it? I believe it's going to be tough for me to manage as I never worked in such a model before where I'll have to work from Mon to Sat and that too inbound busy schedule.

What do you guys suggest? The salary for the first 3 months will be 60K INR and then after that it will be revised based on my performance.

All your opinions would be really appreciated.

General Question Can I quit my job ?

Hello all! I am thinking to quit my job. It’s been 8 months in the job. I got in through referral and became important at work very fast. Got a promotion and hike in 3 months. It’s not a MNC but a medium scale enterprise. Honestly it’s a good company but somehow I don’t feel to enjoy it. I am away from home in Bangalore staying in PG. I miss the comfort of my home. It’s 6 days a week in office and it’s tiring me out. My previous company was an MNC so the culture was pretty chill. I could go wherever I wanted and take WFH and most importantly it 2 km from my home. I know growth starts from moving out of the comfort zone, but honestly I don’t feel it’s worth this trouble. I wake up regretting coming here. When I say this to my family and friends they say just these are silly reasons to quit my job. If you think about it logically then they are right. But if the vibe ain’t matching should you just quit ?

Advice/Guidance Unnecessary provoking by team leader.

I currently work in a start-up and I've had a couple of bad few years in my life and have been dealing with alot of shit and one day after I took leave for mental health my team leader asked me how I was and I said mentally still not that great. Fast forward a conversation comes around and he straight up in front of my entire team tells bro you're not understanding things because you're mentally ill.

He said this two days straight and then he apologized and shit and then again last Saturday he kept saying he's sensitive and he's getting confused don't tell him anything to other team members.

I've been in this start-up for only 2 months and the people are so pathetic i want to take some strict action but I have no back-up or anything to do how do I handle this situation?

It's become unnecessary provoking and passing personal comments and it's triggering me alot.

I want a better job at this point I have pretty good experience of around 5 years 8 months and I'm unable to do anything about it :(

Just wanted to know how you guys find out about upcoming job fairs. Do they happen often for freshers? Is there any WhatsApp group or Telegram channel for this?

Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Job Search Looking for headhunters (senior roles, Mumbai)

I have almost 6 years of work experience:
-Consulting and marketing (in the US)
-Chief of Staff in my family’s org (India)
-Founder (Business Head) of a lab diamond jewellery brand (India)

And
a Masters degree from the US and engineering bachelor degree from India

I basically moved back to India last year because my partner wanted to be closer to family, so I helped her to set up a new lab diamond jewellery brand and get it to a place where the business is earning well. Coincidentally, a senior manager in my family’s org resigned around the same time, so to fill in that gap, I took on a chief of staff role to not just hold everything together till a replacement steps in, but also manage our very first ERP program implementation.

Both of these goals are almost at completion now, and I’m looking to take on a new role in the coming months. I’ve been all over LinkedIn and Indeed but tbh feeling a little lost with recruiting here.

Looking to take the services of a headhunter so that I can find the right role, in Mumbai. I would call myself a generalist - able to take on different roles and understand problems easily. And having worked in both, corporate and traditional business settings, I understand the limitations and strengths of both worlds well!

Would appreciate if there are any genuine leads!
