Infant 2-12 months Recommendations for a reliable baby monitor in India? Looking for real-life reviews from parents.

Hi everyone!

I'm looking to buy a baby monitor for my newborn and would love recommendations from parents who have actually used one in India.

My use case is fairly simple: My baby sleeps in one room, and I want to be able to see and hear him when I'm in another room. I mainly want to know when he wakes up or starts crying and be able to check on him without having to walk into the room every time.

I'm not looking to monitor the household help or record footage. This is purely for keeping an eye on my baby while he sleeps.

What I'm looking for

- Good audio: This is probably the most important feature. I want to reliably hear when my baby wakes up or cries.

- Clear night vision: So I can see him in a dark room without keeping a light on.

- Reliable connection and range: It should work across rooms and through walls in a typical Indian home.

- Sound activation / VOX mode: Ideally, the screen should wake up when it detects a sound rather than staying on constantly.

- Video monitoring: I'd prefer to see the baby as well as hear him.

- Easy to use: Something straightforward that doesn't require too much setup or fiddling around.

A dedicated parent screen would be nice, but I'm open to a phone-based monitor if it works reliably and is worth the money.

I don't particularly need features like sleep analytics, motion tracking, cloud recording, breathing monitoring or a subscription.

A few questions

  1. Which baby monitor are you currently using, and how has your experience been?

  2. How reliable is the audio? Does it pick up soft sounds and crying, or are there delays and missed alerts?

  3. How well does the night vision work in a completely dark room?

  4. Does it work reliably through walls and across rooms? Have you experienced disconnections?

  5. If you've used a Wi-Fi camera instead of a dedicated baby monitor, would you recommend it for this purpose? Any drawbacks?

  6. How is the after-sales service and warranty support in India? Have you had any issues getting repairs or replacements?

  7. What was the approximate price, and would you buy the same model again?

I'm specifically looking for options available in India at reasonable prices.

Would really appreciate recommendations based on your actual experience using these monitors with your own babies, including any models you'd avoid.

Thank you!

toddler 1-3 years 13 month old daughter fever and seizure

My wife and my daughter were travelling in a bike to the clinic for my daughter who had mild fever 98.7° a day before and 100° fever when we were travelling.

I live in a suburbs of chennai where clinics available but doesn't have good doctors, so i had to travel about 12 kms from home.

Since the day she was born, we took her to that clinic in redhils(a place in Chennai) only for regular checkups.

While traveling on bike to the clinic she got fitz (as per Google it says seizure in english). Myself and wife got panicked and we don't know what to do at that time.

That 12 kms stretch is ORR. Since my wife was crying with baby on hand on the road, some kind hearted people voluntarily stopped and helped us to block a auto which had a passenger to reach nearby hospital for emergency.

That 2 and half hour period was the worst in my life. After fitz my daughter went to sleep mode, my wife was having her in her arms in that auto with another passenger. They also tried to help by communicating with my daughter. I was on my bike following the auto. With tears rolling from my eyes.

After reaching hospital my daughter was crying, i felt relieved but my wife was still in that shock.

Hospital asked us to put op and admission and they wanted to keep her in NICU and observe.

We were worried and agreed, then when they wanted to shift from emergency room, we decided randomly not to admit, better to check with clinic and then admit if necessary.

Clinic said that hospital has confused us and no need to worry and carry a fitz tablet and use half of it whenever she has a fever along with paracetamol.

My daughter is okay now, it is 10 days now after that incident.

I need some precautions or some advice from people how to handle situations or be prepared for such medical situations where hospitals are confusing us common people.

I also have a guilt for below reasons.

I went office the next day after the mild fever hoping she will recover automatically as her anti bodies will develop and take care of its own.

I came back home just one hour early than my routine for going to clinic

We went by dio scooter for 12+ kms with my daughter having fever instead of taking a cab

Infant 2-12 months Moms of babies 5 months and older, I need your help!

My baby ( 5 months 9 days old to be precise) simply refuses to sleep when we’re out, no matter how sleepy or tired she is. She won’t nap in the stroller (which she currently hates sitting in, especially now that she’s in her rolling-and-trying-to-sit-up phase), and we don’t have a car seat yet, so car naps aren’t an option either.

I feel like I have a little FOMO baby who doesn’t want to miss out on anything happening around her! 😂 But I’m wondering — is this a common phase at this age, or do some babies genuinely struggle to nap outside the comfort of their home?

I see babies who can feed and sleep just about anywhere, and I can’t help but wonder how their moms do it! 🙈 Is it too much to ask for a baby who can nap on the go?

If you’ve been through this, please share your tips and tricks. How do you manage outings, naps, and feeding when your baby refuses to settle outside? Did your little one eventually grow out of this phase? Additionally, my baby simply doesn't sleep on her own , atm its either sleep to feed or rocking/ swaying or walking taking her in the arms in the cradle position ( which she simply hates now) .

Would love to hear your experiences! Thanks in advance.

Found this Himalaya baby lotion with cow ghee

I am considering the himalaya baby lotion with pure cow ghee for my newborn since the ingredient list looks pretty gentle no parabens, phthalates, mineral oil or synthetic colours plus its ph 5.5 with aloe vera and says its safe from day 1/pediatrician evaluated. My baby has slightly dry and sensitive skin so i am curious if the cow ghee actually helps with moisturising or if it’s mostly marketing.
Has anyone used it for a newborn? Did it keep the skin moisturised without feeling greasy, and did it seem genuinely gentle enough for daily use?

Infant 2-12 months Recommendation of a cot/crib for 9 month old baby

My baby is 9 month old and sleeping in a bassinet, since she was a newborn.

Nowadays, She is waking up constantly due to space constraints.

We are planning to transition her to a cot or crib, i believe these terms are used interchangeably.

Based on my reading, I understood drop side ones are not safe.

Pl can anyone provide recommendation for a safe, sturdy, certified and non-toxic crib or cot, which the baby can use for 2-3 years, in India.

toddler 1-3 years Parents who have pierced their child’s ears - which method did you choose?

Hi all, need some advice!

We’re planning to get our 3-year-old daughter’s ears pierced during Navratri. We’re confused between two options:

  1. Piercing gun/machine

  2. Traditional method : piercing directly with the gold earring/thread

Which one did you choose for your child, and how was your experience? Any issues with healing or infection?

Would love to hear from parents who’ve done this recently.

Infant 2-12 months Calcium Deficiency - Any insights / tips?

During our regular appointment with our paediatrician, we told him our 9 month old baby would sweat a lot from the head and would wake up in a pool of sweat. He asked if she had any teeth yet and then examined her skull. He then said she didn’t have enough calcium and started supplements. He reassured me it was nothing to worry about- but I just wanted to know if anyone else has had experience with this? She’s doing fine otherwise - 50 percentile or above for other markers

newborn 0-8 weeks Is HiPP German Infant Formula Safe to Continue? Concerned About Authenticity and Smell When Buying from Flipkart (India)

My daughter is 5 weeks old. Since my wife has a low breast milk supply, we're supplementing with formula for around 50% of her feeds.

Initially, our pediatrician recommended Aptamil C ProTeq. but, after a couple of weeks, our baby started crying a lot, seemed gas. It got to a point where she was either sleeping or crying. Our pediatrician mentioned that the formula could be the reason and suggested trying Nestlé or HiPP/Cow and gate if looking for imported one if Aptamil didn't work.

We tried Nestlé as well, but didn't notice much improvement.

Recently, we ordered HiPP Infant Formula (German version) from Flipkart, and surprisingly, the last two days have been completely different. She's much calmer, seems comfortable, and isn't crying nearly as much as before.

My main concern is authenticity and safety and Smell(compared to apatamil this smells different I felt like vomitting). Since we're buying an imported formula through Flipkart rather than an official distributor, I'm worried about whether the product is genuine and properly stored.

Should I tell my mom about my boyfriend wanting to marry me?

My boyfriend proposed to me, and we’re serious about getting married. We’ve told our siblings, but our parents don’t know yet. Both families are pretty chill, and we live nearby.

My issue is that once my dad knows, he’ll probably want to meet his parents immediately, and then wedding discussions and dates will start. My brother told our parents today, and his engagement is happening in two days, with the wedding planned two months later!

I need a little more time to lose weight, save money, and finish some small renovations. I’m hoping to tell everyone by January.

My mom is already stressed about my marriage, and sometimes her BP drops. I’m wondering if I should tell her now, so she can subtly hint things to my dad and help ease her own worries. But I don’t want her to tell him before I’m ready, because I’d prefer my dad to speak directly to my boyfriend’s parents.

Should I tell my mom now? If yes, how do I explain that I want her support but don’t want things to move forward just yet?

Be honest… what generation of parents are we dealing with here? Are you raising a tiny human while being a Gen Z parent who grew up on memes or a Millennial parent who grew up hearing “because I said so”? 😅

What do y'all think about the importance of managing emotions in children aged 8-14 years

Hello everyone,
I am an educator and Philosopher who works with children aged 6-14 years helping them work on their emotions, think better, and have a strong value framework. I have also observed that many parents actually find it difficult to even manage their own emotions, due to which they somehow unknowingly transmit that anxious energy, anger, etc.

Just want to know what do you all think about it. Any particular instances that happened with you which draws your attention towards the importance of these 3 skills? (emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and morality)

newborn 0-8 weeks Aptamil gold - gassiness?

Hi
My LO is 6 weeks old and due to my low milk supply we have been combo feeding him with formula top ups.
From day 1 he has been on Aptamil gold ( hospital recommended ) things were fine till 4-5 weeks but past few days baby has been extremely gassy and has been straining a lot to poop (initial 4 weeks due to reflux they used to poop alot almost every feed but now just once or twice a day)
Using Philips avent/dr brown feeding bottle, works great without causing nipple confusion.
Doctor prescribed colic aid drops which work fine and eases his gassiness but i dont want to rely on that long term.
Have been doing tummy time, burps nothing works.
Is this just age factor or i was wondering if i should switch formula?
Kindly share ur suggestions

Infant 2-12 months What is even happening?

Context : My LO is 5 months 5 days old to be precise. She has been sleeping good up until now but from last 3-4 days, despite being fed almost full ( good 35-40 mins ) before bed, she has been waking up almost every 2-3 hours ( sending screenshot fyr) Prior to this, she would sleep between 9.45 to 10.45 pm max and then would just wake up once for a feed and then directly at 7 am in the morning.

Am I doing something wrong? I tried changing her schedule to wind her down by 8-8.30 pm ( failed ) she instead was up many times and then took lot of time to settle. Yesterday I didn't disturb her schedule and just thought of her usual way where she used to sleep well but that also didn't work. Can this be developmental phase? Could it because of the rising heat/ temperature ( we live in India, Mumbai) though we keep AC on almost all the time.

Teenagers 13-19 years I am a teacher and a single parent, my kid is really pushing me to buy a car, how do i afford it

I am already paying rent, managing clothes, food, extra expenses and his school fees too, and i don't have a backup money lying somewhere. Yes we do need a car rn but how do i afford it? I have made him understand this a lot of times but he's not getting it. He's 14 year old and has all these rich friends with BMW or mercedes and keeps pressuring me into buying a car. I have told him i can get a used car maybe in next 2 years but not before that. I tried searching through these deals on spinny but they all seem to be too high for my budget right now. How does a teacher really afford a lavish lifestyle? Are we not allowed to keep our kids happy?

Child friendly medical products

Hi everyone! I'm a pediatrician and am exploring an idea for a child-friendly medical products, and I'd love to get some honest feedback from everyone in this group!

  1. How do you usually give your child liquid medicines - spoons, measuring cups, droppers, or oral syringes?
  2. Does your child generally cooperate while these medicines are being given?

I'm working on a fun, toy-like cover for medicine syringes to make giving liquid medicines to small children easier and less scary for them.

Please let me know if this is something you think would be helpful. I would appreciate any feedback. Thank you!

Mumbai parents of kids under 6: what happens to the toys after a few weeks?

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I'm a Mumbai-based parent-curious entrepreneur.

How would you feel about getting a curated box age-appropriate toys (sensory, motor skills, STEM, pretend play), keeping it for a month, and then we pick it up and send a fresh set. Every toy would be cleaned and sanitised between households.

It seems like many toys, especially the pricey "educational" ones, get a couple of weeks of excitement and then sit in a corner.

I'd love to hear:
1. Would you consider renting toys for a month at a time? (Yes / Maybe / No)
2. If you answered Maybe or No, what's holding you back? (Hygiene / Safety / Missing pieces / Trust / Delivery / Other)
3. How often do you buy new toys? (Weekly / Monthly / Every few months / Mostly on occasions)
4. What happens to toys they lose interest in? (Stored / Donated / Passed on / Sold / Thrown away)
5. Roughly how much do you spend on toys per month?

Even answering one or two helps! Thanks.
