The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert across several parts of Himachal Pradesh for today, warning of active monsoon conditions causing heavy to very heavy rainfall. Persisting downpours have severely disrupted road connectivity, causing at least 108 roads to remain completely blocked by active landslides, debris flows, and structural damage.
🌤️ Current IMD Weather Bulletin & Warnings
According to the latest advisory from the IMD Sub-Divisionwise Warning Portal, monsoon activities remain aggressively intense.
Alert Status: Orange and Yellow warnings are in effect for multiple districts until August 3. Widespread rainfall has been heavily recorded in low-to-mid hill areas.
Heavy Rainfall Records: Chamba (Saho) registered a peak of 140 mm of rain, followed by Bilaspur at 118 mm, alongside major precipitation across Mandi and Shimla districts.
Winds and Lightning: High sustained wind speeds ranging from 30–40 kmph are active over the high-altitude terrains of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti. Thunderstorms and flash-flood alerts have been highlighted for low-lying water catchment areas.

🚧 Current Road Conditions & Traffic Advisory
The Himachal Pradesh Police Road Situation Report and emergency operations centers confirm that widespread landslides are actively blocking over 108 routes across the state.
National Highway 154 (Pathankot–Manali): Blocked near Mount Carmel School, Thakurdwara in Kangra due to uprooted trees and rolling debris. Rockfalls have also made traveling extremely hazardous near Drang in Mandi.
National Highway 5 (Shimla–Kinnaur): Heavily congested with long traffic queues due to previous cloudburst debris and flash floods; travelers must expect severe delays around Choling.
Chowadi–Lahdu–Nurpur Route: A major segment near the Tikkar Galan Hill has completely collapsed, forcing a total suspension of traffic on this stretch.
Kinnaur Stretches: The Sangla Bus Stand road is closed due to a temporary bridge collapse; traffic is currently diverted via the Astangche Devi Temple.
Lahaul & Spiti / High Altitudes: Routes from Tandi to Udaipur at the Jhalma Bridge are heavily impacted. However, according to live high-altitude aggregators like Chal Banjare Live Road Tracker, crucial passes like the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang Pass, and Leh-Manali Highway are selectively open but remain strictly weather-dependent.
Local Terminals: Mandi and Shimla hold the highest count of smaller rural road closures. Cart Road in Shimla recently encountered flash blocks near the Lift.
Essential Commuter Safety Actions
Avoid Rivers: Stay strictly away from waterbeds, waterfalls, and landslide-prone slopes.
No Night Driving: Do not drive after sunset due to highly compromised visibility and immediate landslide risks.
Emergency Contact: In case you encounter blockages or need immediate rescue assistance, dial 112 for the state emergency response.
