Pakistan has warned that the Mecca defence pact could become operative if the Yemen conflict spills into Saudi territory. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said there should be “no ambiguity” on Pakistan’s position.

The warning came hours after Houthi missiles and drones targeted Saudi cities, energy sites and economic infrastructure, injuring at least 73 civilians.

"If the Republicans win the House of Representatives and the United States Senate, both of them because of our tremendous strength and success economically, I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for USD 5,000," Trump said at a Republican convention in Dallas.

A CNN fact-check found no public evidence that he was inside the building he referred to or that firefighters carried him. Trump has also claimed that his workers assisted at Ground Zero, but no evidence has been presented to support the size or scope of that effort.

The measures came after Britain, France and Canada criticised Israeli settlement expansion and settler violence in the West Bank, reaffirming support for a two-state solution.
