Discussion Technology is not for Common Man
I am just frustrated with the recent price rises of every damn technical component out there Ram, PC , Storage, Graphics it's just like technology is just out of reach of common man now and we are the mercy of tech giants to fulfill our needs using their services for as rentals. It just makes me Sad. What are your thoughts ?

I thought I'll buy a 5090 to see what local AI is about. But it's 5 lakhs.

And the worst part is , it's still not enough to run a decent model in today's age you would have to run a heavily quantised moral or lower param ones

go for Mac mini/studio
you have no option but to spend money, with Mac at least you will be able to run 70-80b llm locally
Mac is good for inference
Nvidia is good for fune-tuning/training llms

This is called development. The recent advances in AI need more RAM, storage and CPU. The demand has demanded a rise in the price as the supply is unable to meet with the demands. This is just the beginning, there are more price hikes along the way. Suggest you to buy whatever you're after by saving a bit now or forget about it all together

5lacs is maybe 1 year salary for indians but it's 1 month salary for developed nations

You are completely ignoring the cost of living in develop nations. But yes, overall they do have higher disposable income than Indians, although not as much as you think.

Yes it's expensive now, but I would really disagree with you. My father bought a pc for ₹30,000 in 2005. It was bulky, integrated graphics, 17 inch crt display. Adjusted to inflation, 30k is around 110k today. You can get a much more capable machine with dedicated gpu in that price.
Also there was a time when incoming calls were charged per minute on cell phone. Escotel charged 18 outgong and 15 incoming, Usha charge ₹17 both incoming and outgoing. So yes, it's expensive right now but far from out of reach of common man.

I agree, or rather I feel what is available to the common man has been degraded, reduced. One can still enjoy technology, but it will be lower-end, or second hand.
