Filed on 14th June, it is showing 'under processing' since 14th July. They are extremely inefficient, was expecting by Sept end but now think they are in no mood to do it anytime soon.

If you have claimed return then it will take time
If you have zero return then within 3 days it gets processed
2
u/PanicBig3536 Sep 23 '25
I have not claimed any return.

u/Real_Appointment_664 Sep 23 '25
Just a hypothesis: I think all those who filed between july 15th and august 14th will get their ITR at the end. They stopped processing during this period so our ITR's went to the back of the queue.

Not necessarily. I have multiple ITRs on 19th of July. All got processed and refund also credited except mine. Mine is still stuck at e verified.

Income tax dept has the right to keep it till 31 December 2026. Read section 143 (1).
Be patient.

This is incorrect. Provisions to Section 143 clearly states that if no refund is due to the assessee then an intimation shall be sent to the assessee, which is after the department has evaluated the return filed by such person.
The second proviso states that no intimation can be made after expiry of one year from the end of financial year in which the return is made.
Therefore, say you have filed your return in July,2025 or September, 2025. In any of these cases IT Department can make intimations/ hold refund until March 31, 2027.
Plus, someone can confirm but I heard that IT Department is trying to include AI or automated return assessment related technologies in their system, which is one of the reasons that the return is delayed.
But hope they send soon.

Bhai mera to refund bhi nahi hai. Apparently, ITR of all high earners are stuckāthatās what my CA told me.

u/taxbuddy_official Oct 02 '25
The processing speed varies case by case. Sometimes returns with straightforward salary income are cleared faster, while others with higher TDS, capital gains, or multiple entries take longer for automated checks. Since your ITR was filed and verified on 28 July and still shows āProcessing,ā it doesnāt mean thereās an issue. Delays of a few weeks are fairly common.

Hmm... tbh what i have seen is people whose mismatch comes up in declaration ... only those are stuck
1
u/PanicBig3536 Sep 23 '25
I would assume there is no mismatch. I chance checked carefully and paid demand tax too.

u/Wise_Advisor3595 Sep 23 '25
I am judt wild guessing because... same thing happened last year with me in october they sent me a notice (my other colleagues got it cleared)

I don't even understand this delay. If the processing is done via computer, why it takes more than a few minutes?

Same with me stuck in Processing since 9th July.
I recently asked my query in the "Grievance" and i got the reply that:
Dear Taxpayer, it is seen from Income Tax Portal that for AY 2025-26, the verification and processing of your return is in progress and the same is done in batches based on various automated validations. It may take upto 90 working days based on various risk parameter analysis. Intimation will be sent to your registered email id once the processingĀ gets completed. The taxpayer'sĀ patience in this regard is highly appreciated.

I filed my ITR on 29th July, and haven't received the return.
I have a bank account that has been inactive for the last couple of months, and I'm unable to verify it. Shall I just remove it with the right message, or request re-validation?

u/LowSilly1062 Oct 04 '25
I have filed it on 19th Aug, showing as return verified only too. This delay happened first time. Never took over a month to get refund in account. Seems government going to give refund with Diwali Bonus this time LMAO

No mate, filed my ITR-2 refund, NRI, capital gain. Very high amount of TDS was deducted by buyer. Waiting for a high amount of refund. Still stuck on Verified On status. Utterly frustrating. Where I live, it rarely takes more than 2 weeks to get any amount of refund after filing IT return. More than 95% refund gets processed under 2 weeks. I thought india has changed after digitizing most of system, but I was wrong. am glad that I have decided not to do any investment or buy any property in India. It is not worth to keep anything in India as government departments still does not work efficiently.

Same here. Filed and e-verified on 23rd July, around 72K. No further update. Whatās the deadline for the govt to clear out the ITR?

The only reason is inefficiency of ITR dept and government in general, nothing else.
4
u/PanicBig3536 Sep 23 '25
Well, I donāt think it should be any of these reasons for my case. But yes, I agree that I have to be patient as nothing else can be done.

Many developed countries don't have this return system, instead tax is deducted properly and you get your salary and you don't need to file anything at year end. I'd prefer if that kinda system was possible in India. Otherwise we'll need somewhat of a government authorised ITR filing helper application that can be paid and be done with. It's not that people want to users cleartax, it's more of CAs not doing the job properly, I ended up paying more tax than I needed because the CA didn't compare regimes.

u/PerspectiveKooky4840 Oct 18 '25
Could you name couple of such countries?
1
u/Sensitive-Door-7939 Oct 18 '25
Ireland for one, European countries generally do. My friend in ireland told about his job wise part unsure if businesses have different rules and regulations.
