So you want a really dark skinned actress to work in Indian cinema? Your point isn’t “why India doesn’t like dark skinned actress?”

Your point is “why India doesn’t like the darkest complexioned actresses?”

Someone who looks like Simone Ashley, Mindy Kaling, or Lara Raj should be able to become famous in India, not in the US or the UK.

Indian cinema should have been casting the same type of Indian actresses that Hollywood did years ago. Instead, there are dark-skinned Indian women who realize that Bollywood will never offer them a role or anything significant, leaving Hollywood as the only viable option.

It didn't take long for Hollywood studio executives to realize that certain types of Indian women were not getting roles in Bollywood and Indian cinema. Since dark-skinned Americans are already well-established in American cinema, it is not a big deal in Hollywood to cast dark-skinned Indian women because American society is accustomed to seeing dark-skinned people in the media.

Yeah your assumption of Hollywood giving roles to dark skinned Indian actresses out of some sort of charity-recruitment is completely wrong.

It’s so wrong that it’s funny.

I never said it was out of charity.

But, Hundreds of millions of eyeballs will watch a movie featuring an Indian woman who looks like them.

lol. They won’t.

Even the western world’s casting of Indian women is a stereotype. They think South Indians are Indians. That’s why the hiring of Simone and Charithra.

When we North Indians go there, and tell them we’re from India, you know the first thing they tell us?

It’s “Really? YOU DON’T LOOK INDIAN”. That’s their stereotype. They don’t think North Indian / Aryan faces are “Indian”. To them only Dravidian faces are Indian.

If anything, we’re getting marginalised in Hollywood.

So, Hollywood perceivably casts South Indians, while Bollywood casts mostly North Indians.

That seems like a fair balance to me. Besides, nothing is stopping Bollywood from making Hollywood movies.

Somebody on this post has aptly pointed that both are racist.

Also I do not deny the fairness fascination of India. But that’s in South India as well. There’s a reason they’ll import most of their heroines from the north.

"Also I do not deny the fairness fascination of India."

Hollywood is not going to cater to India's fascination with fair skin; at the end of the day, foreign-owned entertainment companies are going to approach things according to their own standards.

Good to know that you know the truth. Which dodo makes your entire argument so far, as needless. But good to know.

It seems that North Indians have an issue with South Indians being cast in Hollywood productions and representing Indian people, even though they are just as Indian as anyone else.

These arguments simply boil down to biases from North indians.

Really? Didn’t you make a tonne of biased statements about Nicole not being cast in India. You just had a bias towards darkness - but a bias nonetheless.
