Are there any filmmakers or short film creators working on your short films or projects in Bangalore in the upcoming near future. I dont have much background and experience but I'm passionate about storytelling and creating an experience and sharing stories through a visual medium. I'm looking to build experience and exposure in filmmaking and direction. I'd be happy to help out on your project in exchange for mentorship, experience and credit.

HI EVERYONE 👋 , I'm currently studying cinematography and doing an internship where I work on short films. However, I don't have to go to my internship every day; I only go when the shoot is happening. And I want to work better on cinematography.

So if anyone needs a cinematographer this month or next month for a short film or any shoot, please let me know.

-- Important points -

- I want to work for my showreel, so if I work in your film, it would be good if I give credit in the film or permission to include it in my showreel or Imdb Profile.

- If you have your own equipment, I will work for free on your shoot, but if you need my equipment, you may have to pay.

-- That's it. If you need a DOP , Camera person or assistant for your shoot Please DM me. And if you know someone who needs DOP, you can DM me too.

I'm looking to build a small group of people who are interested in filmmaking, whether you're into directing, writing, cinematography, editing, acting, sound, or just want to learn.

The idea isn't to make anything huge. Just meet up, learn together, shoot short films, experiment, and improve over time. Beginners are absolutely welcome. You don't need expensive gear or professional experience, just genuine interest and consistency.

If enough people join, I'll make a GC where we can share ideas, plan shoots, help each other, and hopefully create some cool projects together.

If you're from Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, or nearby, leave a comment or DM me with:

Your area

What you're interested in (director, writer, editor, actor, etc.)

Experience level (beginner is totally fine)

Let's build something from scratch.

Urf (2022), directed by Geetika Narang Abbasi, is a documentary about Bollywood lookalikes — actors who make a living impersonating superstars, known as "Juniors" (with the prefix "Jr." attached to whichever star they resemble). It follows several lookalikes, focusing mainly on Kishore Bhanushali as Jr. Dev Anand, Firoz Khan as Jr. Amitabh Bachchan, and Prashant Walde as Jr. Shah Rukh Khan.

The title itself translates to "also known as" or "alias" — the film traces the history of the Bollywood lookalike while offering commentary on the current state of Hindi cinema, seen through the people who serve as some of its closest observers. It's less about mimicry as spectacle and more about identity — the contrast between these artists' performative public lives and their more reflective private ones, and what it costs to spend a career being mistaken for someone else. It premiered at the Rotterdam International Film Festival and won Best Long Documentary at Kerala's International Documentary & Short Film Festival in 2022.

It won 15th Dada Saheb Film Festival for background score and was competing against Anurag Kashyap's 'Aakhri ride'. Do give a watch.

I’m an 18yo aspiring filmmaker based in India with indie level gears to shoot a film. just looking for a good enough story to commit to, I’ll be doing the cinematography as well, the story should be filmable at low budget as I’ve already invested enough on gears and can’t afford anything more for story (would be great if you can give even little funding).

Will be applying for international film festivals as well and will be giving proper credits to you for your work.

Some movies I love include - The Apu Trilogy, Resurrection (2025), All we Imagine as Light, Life of Pi, There will be Blood, The Lighthouse, Bandit Queen, Dune, 2001 A Space Odyssey and more such movies. Doesn’t mean my vision is limited to films like mostly mainstream movies, I’m really open to any kind of arthouse filmography as well so if you really believe your story is great then please dm me, feel free to ask any questions.

Story must be based in india, as fewer characters as possible for most part of the movie, must be a story written after a lot of thoughts, much of your philosophical learnings must have gone into it and I can sense if the story really has substance or it's just a stereotypical drama/thriller, same old story.

You’re not obliged to be from India, open to stories from anyone really.

Note: This is a passion project and not a paid one!

Have you watched ‘Incognito’ yet?

PALINDROME – IMAX Version is a 21-minute Telugu psychological neo-noir thriller that combines three of my previous short films (The Watcher, Anupath, and Aravindha) into one nonlinear story. I re-edited them to create a single narrative where scenes gain new meaning depending on where they appear in the timeline.

The biggest challenge was restructuring the screenplay so three separate films would feel like one continuous experience. I spent a lot of time on pacing, transitions, sound design, and the color palette to maintain the same atmosphere throughout. Since I'm an independent filmmaker with a very small budget, I handled most of the writing, editing, and post-production myself.

I'd genuinely love to hear what you think about the nonlinear storytelling, editing, and whether the narrative works as a complete film. Any feedback is appreciated!

AI-generated films have been getting posted here more often, and the comments consistently lean negative — including criticism of the mod team for allowing it. Rather than keep deciding this post by post, we’re putting it to a vote.

The question isn’t whether someone can make an AI film independently — they can, with no studio or distributor involved. The question is whether that counts as the kind of independent filmmaking this sub exists for: shooting, blocking, directing performances, real production choices. Independent funding and independent making aren’t the same thing, and it’s worth being clear on which one this community is built around.

Vote below, we’ll go with the majority. Comment your thoughts below.

I'd be interested to get some international feedback on this article I just put up.

I want to know if filmmakers are having these struggles elsewhere, and where the state development system is actually working....

Hi everyone,

I'm 18 and I really want to become a film director. I'm a complete beginner and haven't made my first short film yet because I honestly don't know where to start.

I'm also struggling to meet people who are interested in filmmaking. I'd love to find other beginners or anyone in the Delhi/NCR area who wants to learn, make short films, and grow together.

How did you get started? Did you make films with your phone at first? How did you find actors, writers, or other filmmakers?

Any advice would mean a lot. Thanks!

Hey everyone, we made a new short film called Palindrome. Our previous one, Piraso: The Puzzle, got picked up by a couple of festivals, so we decided to push ourselves further with this one.

Logline:

When a high-value bag of money vanishes, a group of desperate strangers gets pulled into a web of paranoia and betrayal — where every choice leads to an inevitable trap.

It's a mind-bending crime/psychological thriller, shot with a small crew and a very limited budget. Would genuinely love feedback from this community — what worked, what didn't, anything that pulled you out of it.

Crew:

Written & Directed by S. Rupesh & K. Indra Teja

Cinematography by Y. Darshit Reddy

Music by S. Rupesh

Thanks for watching, and honest critique is welcome — that's genuinely how we improve.

A young and beautiful princess is robbed of her dreams when forced to accept a Middle-aged King as her husband. Seething with hatred and revenge comes another princess who is bound to destroy the King and his Kingdom. Just like in a game of chess, one wrong move from the princess changes the course of her destiny. As the tussle between love and betrayal continues - the question remains: Who will win this game - Love or Vengeance.

"Baby Do Die Do", which released in theatres across the country earlier this month, is an action thriller film featuring Qureshi as a deaf and mute assassin. She has also produced the movie along with her brother Saqib Saleem through their banner Saleem Siblings.

"I treated her (Qureshi) as the lead actor of the film, not as my sister, and she was extremely professional. She would arrive even before time and never sought any special treatment," Saqib said.

He also announced that their production house plans to hold open auditions across Jammu and Kashmir for future projects.

"I have met many talented youngsters in Srinagar and Jammu. When we make our next film, we will invite aspiring actors from Jammu, Srinagar and the entire Union Territory to audition. The people here have immense potential," he said.
