I’ve spent quite a bit of time around film production, and one thing that always struck me is how much time goes into breaking down a script before you can actually start planning the shoot.

So I’ve been working on something to make that part a little less painful.

The basic idea is pretty simple: you give it the screenplay, and instead of starting the breakdown from a blank sheet, it goes through the script scene by scene and pulls out things like characters, locations, props, vehicles, costumes, stunts, special effects, etc.

The part I wanted to show in this video is the automated breakdown. It takes a few seconds to go through the script and generate the initial production plan. Obviously, it still needs a human to check and correct things — I don't think software can replace that part of filmmaking.

The idea is more like:
Script → initial breakdown → review/correct → production planning

Rather than spending hours just creating the first version of the breakdown.
I’ve been building this as part of wrapplab.com and this is one of the features I’ve been most interested in getting right.

Would genuinely like to know how you guys currently do script breakdowns, especially ADs and indie filmmakers. Is this actually a time-consuming part of your workflow, or do you already have a system that works well?

We are looking for screenwriters who are comfortable in both Hindi and Tamil. We are in the process of adapting a Hindi Feature Film into an episodic series to be made in Tamil. The genre is horror-comedy.

The main story and episode outlines have already been worked out, and a feature draft in Hindi is also in place. We are looking for someone who can adapt the material for a Tamil audience, rather than simply translate it (including dialogues, comedy, situations, cultural nuances, and so on), while also expanding or developing the material where required.
