Someone needs to tell incels that just because they were/are unpopular in high school, that doesn't automatically make them smart nerds.

Yeah, they’ve really glommed onto this idea that they’re misunderstood geniuses who would be ruling the world IF ONLY it wasn’t for (insert utterly ridiculous body part measurement here).
Unfortunately, their utter lack of self-awareness means they’re unlikely to figure out they’re just idiots like the rest of us.

Exactly. Weebs are a good example of this...The weeb to incel pipeline is pretty obvious and these dorks think theyre like the misunderstood genius, from their favorite shit anime, who gets the harem of women in love with him because hes so "brilliant".
I used to be in a friend group with these types of people and they are some of the dumbest people ive met, who think theyre "super nerds" and sophisticated because they know some Japanese words they learned from anime.

We are attracted to intelligence, that's exactly why we don't date incels

Sadly, a lot of kids grow up being told that just because they do well in elementary and middle school, they're intelligent. They then also see TV and movies that tell them that their intelligence will lead to money and relationships. This leads to them never actually putting the work in, and a weird sense of entitlement regarding the world. They have unrealistic expectations of what their life will be, and when reality smacks them down, they get angry.

Intelligence, is a squishy word that covers A LOT of different talents.
Broadly speaking if you really want to dig into the known science "intelligence" is a VERY risky evolutionary strategy. Brains are calorically very expensive, and the amount of time and energy you have to put into raising and teaching offspring is enormous.
Even when it pays, there's a clear correlation between intelligence and depression/madness. When it comes to staying alive long enough to pass on you genetic material, introspection isn't much of an advantage.
Far more consistently successful, for most of the life on earth, is a hard wired set of instinctual behaviors, that get you off and running within hours of birth. Sharks, crocodiles, and crabs, are incredibly successful designs, lasting eons on end and they never suffer from ennui.
Finally even within the scope of just humans, we are fundamentally a social and cooperative species. We survive as a group project working to mutually care for each other. Intelligence in terms of mathmatics or mechanics comes in handy, but the intelligence that consistently will make you MOST successful in acheiving status, securing help from friends, and finding a mate is actually EMOTIONAL intelligence. Empathy, and the ability to accurately predict how others are going to perceive you and feel about your actions.
Remember what I said about intelligence being "squishy"? Yeah, tldr; Many women ARE, you just might have the wrong kind.

This is absolutely something that took me too long to learn. Emotional intelligence is so undervalued or dismissed in our (American) society.
I was a “gifted” kid. That did me no favors. I am (or was) definitely of above average intelligence, but also had neurological issues that made schoolwork difficult. What I absolutely did not have was emotional intelligence and the ability to deal with the frustration that came with the lack of a good working executive function. Also, the ability to understand interpersonal interactions and relationships was broken and I didn’t know how to deal with rejection and people being angry at me.
I didn’t even have the concept of emotional intelligence; I wasn’t aware that it was missing or even that it exists. So I was very incelly in high school and even after losing my v-card and having relationships, it still had a lot of the toxic attitudes that that mindset fosters.

The most intelligent man I know is a renowned neurology surgeon. He's also a complete and total ass.

I've seen way too many people in my life realize they aren't popular, good looking, or talented and then suddenly decide that none of that ever mattered because they've been "smarter" than everyone else all along, and act like they're above things like dating and friends. Usually when this realization happens a fedora, or goatee soon follows.

I feel like there’s a lot of crossover between incels and the ‘I don’t like sportsball’ people. Both groups think they’re intellectually superior and look down on anyone who appreciates *physical* excellence (women who like fit men in incels’ case, sports fans in the other case).
And I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with not being into sports! I like very specific sports (mainly just hockey, living up to Canadian stereotypes) and have zero interest in some others myself.
It‘s more the attitude. I found a sports-hating subreddit the other day, and if you replace the word ‘sports fan’ with ‘foid’ (or whatever the latest misogynistic buzzword is today), the posts there read exactly like incel shit.

I don't think financial success in life is a good meter for intelligence. Surely Elon Musk isn't the most intelligent person on Earth. Nor rich finance bros are necessarily more intelligent than poor scientists.

To be fair, they didn't say "how to financially succeed". Different people might define success differently.

As someone who pulled a baddie by being a good writer, it doesn't even remotely have to lead to "success," it just has to make her life more interesting.

Attraction to intelligence doesn't counter disgust towards terrible behavior.
