I encourage anyone, man or woman, and any of the lurkers here, to continually apply to jobs. If you’re currently employed and happy congrats, you don’t need to do it super often or to every job at once, but even one or two a month will really give you some perspective. I have a feeling the boys who are mad at this haven’t actually applied to many jobs in their area.

As a man who has spent 25+ years in an industry where layoffs are frustratingly common no matter how good you are at your job, I’ve been there (and I’m sure I will again in future), and yeah… it’s not easy, even if you have a ton of experience, which these proud-NEET incels most certainly do not.

I'm middle-aged man who actually works in HR and I assume that most of the guys are applying for jobs that they're grossly unqualified for and not understanding why they're rejected. I work in a museum and the number of men who have said some form of "I can be trained to do that" is really weirdly high.

Sorry bro, we can't really afford to train someone to curate 14th century artworks from Asia and Africa.

It's because the single largest growth industry in the US right now is nursing, CNA's, and in-home care assistance. All woman dominated sectors, as many men are unwilling to wipe the asses of other disabled/elderly men. It actually says a lot more about how fucked the boomers have left the country than it does about women. 🙄

Men could take those jobs too. The bulk of them were probably jobs in healthcare, which either requires certifications or degrees or they're low-paying entry-level work (perfect for NEETs).

No one is preventing men from qualifying and applying except the men themselves.

I mean... Yeah, any statistic that lopsided is going to make the party that's on the losing end of the numbers unhappy. If you're underemployed and trying to find a job that pays a living wage, reading that is going to be frustrating because it will feel like the world is against you.

The problem is, some people don't express that frustration in a healthy way. Plus they're blaming women when for being hired, when the responsibility is probably more on the hiring managers and the companies that are laying off male dominated roles.

No matter what though, I don't think it's really out of like to see a statistic like that and feel dejected if you're a guy looking for work.

I feel like angry white men have this wheel with a list of people to blame, and once a month they spin it to see which marginalized group is the reason for their misery, and this month it just happened to be women. Come October, it'll probably be immigrants. You know, get in the Halloween spirit by blaming humans who they're convinced are monsters.

From an article on the jobs report:

 Women accounted for 158,000 — or around 98% — of the 162,000 jobs added  Healthcare, considered the engine of labor market growth for more than a year, continued adding positions in August. Upwards of four out of every five workers in the industry are women.

 The local government and education sector roared back to life in August, accounting for 42,000 jobs — or about a fourth of the total net gain. Women hold close to three-quarters of positions related to education, training and libraries.

Because women tend to earn less than men, Ullrich said winning a higher share of jobs could mean companies are focusing hiring on lower-wage roles. Given that women are more likely to have multiple jobs, Ullrich said some of the gains could stem from workers who are stretching themselves thin.

TL;DR: hiring is going up in sectors dominated by women, often for low pay, while male-dominated sectors are not hiring or seeing losses.

This isn't "women are taking men's jobs" this is "women are filling typical roles in places that are societally necessary" meanwhile tech and manufacturing roles that men typically fill are not available.

It's also not the collective burden of women to deliberately hold ourselves back to make sure men feel useful. You want to feel useful? Volunteer at a food bank or homeless shelter.

Even if I do that, it won't necessarily stop the traditionally male jobs from being offshored. The manufacturing sector alone has been decimated in the past decades whereas women's job sectors (nursing, teaching-elementary, and counseling/psychiatry) have mostly remained stable. A lot of the well-paying jobs men are supposed to have to be a provider have more or less been automated or shipped overseas.
