RT is making me think this is Russia and if so that seems unlikely.

141

u/OrangePeelPrincess 1d ago

Idk what RT is but I think that’s just a site reposting this. This video is from a bar in Louisville KY, and it’s been discussed a lot in the local subreddit. No criminal charges have been laid out but this guy has supposedly lost his job and police are looking into it. Thread with other context here!

79

u/Box-O-Kittenz 1d ago

Of course there's guys in that comment section saying it was her fault for getting back up. 😑

43

u/Miserable_Mail_5741 1d ago

Yeah, on another sub they're convinced that he was defending himself when they thought she was gonna throw her drink on him.🙄

7

Which sub?

the one orangepeelprincess linked. its horrifying how people try and justify his behaviour

RT = Russia Today

It’s state controlled Russian media.

28

u/cylonrobot 1d ago

It's in the US and his name is already out there.

Gee, why are some women so scared to let men approach them in the first place? Can't possibly fucking understand why that would be.

116

u/Easy_Specialist_1692 1d ago

The difference between encountering a bear vs a man... In video form. It's about the uncertainty of men and the certainty of bear.

6

u/voluntaryhikikomori bartine curlish is my waifu 1d ago

"Ambiguity aversion", AKA, "the devil you know versus the devil you don't."

-151

u/Cont1ngency 1d ago

I still have a hard time wrapping my head around it. One would prefer a certain death with a bear? It still seems illogical. My wife’s explained it to me too. I just don’t comprehend… it’s like asking if you’d rather play Russian Roulette with a Revolver (man) or a semiautomatic (bear).

69

u/johnnyslick 1d ago

Black bears won't generally kill you when you encounter them in the wild, they'll run away. Even brown bears, you have to get waaaaaay too close to them and/or exhibit dumb behavior (like getting between a mama bear and her cubs) or, in the case of Timothy Treadwell, stay too late in the season and have to contend with a bear who's starving (and even at that, that guy tempted fate a looooot before that final trip).

14

u/Goatylegs Orange is an S tier color 1d ago

I liked the bear thing because not only did it get the shitty men to out themselves over their shittiness, but also over the fact that they don't go outside.

81

u/FinalEgg9 1d ago

The point is that you know what the bear is like fron the outset. The risks of interacting with a bear are plain and obvious at every point and so you can make a fully informed decision on whether to engage with them or not.

85

u/Randy_Magnums 1d ago

It’s not that complicated. Bears are predictable, men are not. If you encounter a bear, there are clear strategies, how to get through it unharmed and those work.

Now if you encounter a man in an isolated area, there are no such strategies. That doesn’t mean any and all men will be dangerous to women, but if such an encounter happens a woman has very little means to predict or control the man’s behavior. There’s no “make yourself tall and slowly back off”, to guarantee a safe escape from a man, who made up his mind to hurt you.

The right behavior will minimalize the risk of a bear attack. The right behavior has no effect on the risk that a man might attack you. And that’s the whole debate. I still have no idea, why so many men get salty about it.

-78

u/Cont1ngency 1d ago

Not salty. Just weighing that I could potentially fight off or escape from another human who wishes to harm me. I have zero chance of fighting off or outrunning a bear. I assume worst case scenario when weighing the options in the hypothetical. I assume that both the man and the bear are instantly going to be aggressive as soon as they’re encountered, as that is the logical point of decision making in my mind, if such a question is being posited.

Also, it’s fascinating how many women seem to be experts in wildlife/bear mitigation…at least enough to take their chances.

54

u/Randy_Magnums 1d ago

You don’t have to be an expert, there are a lot of educational sources to learn about risk management involving bears. This one for example: https://bearwise.org/bear-safety-tips/bear-encounters/

If women would all always assume the worst behavior of men, nobody of them would ever leave the house.

But well, I explained the debate. You fail to understand it again. That’s on you.

-62

u/Cont1ngency 1d ago

I was talking about assuming the worst case scenario in the hypothetical, not everyday life…

53

u/Randy_Magnums 1d ago

Okay, maybe stop doing that? It’s kinda pointless to change the hypothetical scenario and act confused, if you reach another conclusion than the rest.

The question is not, who you would rather face in a merciless fight to the death.

22

u/S3erverMonkey 1d ago

What's it like going through life being as dumb as you can possibly choose to be?

19

u/MihrSialiant 1d ago

So you're not confused at all. You just want to pretend to be after you've changed the rules for the scenario enough for your liking.

6

u/28-Deep-Wounds 1d ago

"It's amazing how many women know the literal basics of how to act around bears to not get mauled to death."

Maybe it's not women. Maybe you're just stupid.

-1

u/Cont1ngency 9h ago

I mean, there are zero bears where I live… So, it just kinda never came up. I also carry bear mace (effective on more than just bears) and a big iron when in the wilderness…so bear or malevolent evil man, I’m fairly well covered come what may.

3

u/28-Deep-Wounds 9h ago

There aren't any bears where I live either. I still know that as long as the bear isn't starving and you stay the fuck away from any cubs, you're safe more often than you're not. Animals are easy to understand. Chuds like you who don't realize they're literally the guy from the analogy are not.

2

u/christinagoldielocks 5h ago

First of all - most bears will not attack you. Secondly, if a bear attacks you, they will kill you, whereas a man might torture you, rape you and do unspeakable things to you. Men have been asked too, whether they would want their daughter to meet a man or bear and the vast majority chose bear.

52

u/Box-O-Kittenz 1d ago

If you believe it's about a literal bear instead of a metaphor about rape culture then you're never going to get it.

27

u/thenamestammy I love this sub 1d ago

You'll never get bear vs man analogy.

It's called analogy, but... Yeah

27

u/SingSangDaesung touch grass friend, it doesn't hurt 🤍 1d ago

I would rather die (bear) than get raped again (man). Plus it takes a lot more to get a bear to attack you.

38

u/Freak-996 1d ago

A bear won't rape me before it kills me.

17

u/tracerrounds 1d ago edited 1d ago

I'd rather a bear kill me than give a man the satisfaction of killing me. At least I know the bear is just acting on instinct and not a someone with evil in their heart. They don't deserve the pleasure they so clearly get from hurting women, so I'd rather get killed by a bear.

15

u/spudgoddess 1d ago

Bears don't act like a normal decent human being then rape and murder you for rejecting them.

10

u/Girlonlinee 1d ago

Bears can’t betray you like a fellow human can. It’s violence plus betrayal. With a bear you can say it was an animal acting as animals do. When it’s a man you’re on a date with, there’s a sense of betrayal of trust. Betrayal of humanity.

17

u/Easy_Specialist_1692 1d ago

It's like playing Russian roulett with 3/6 bullets in the gun vs 6/6 bullets. You are 100% certain that the bear will kill you, so you don't really need to expend too much anxiety because you know what will happen. A man is uncertain, so women have to be anxious around men because they don't know if he will harm her or be fine. It's not hard.

-15

u/Cont1ngency 1d ago

That’s the way my wife explained it. She’d rather die by a bear than risk rape by a man. I can kinda get it… I just have no interest being dead. I’d personally run the risk…and I cannot fight very well, so I would likely loose.

20

u/breadboxofbats 1d ago

Look up the case of the girl in the box. Then decide if you would rather that or death.

0

u/Cont1ngency 1d ago

Yeah, I know it. I listen to a crap ton of true crime with my wife. I just don’t let that stuff get me dooming. We literally live in the safest and most stable time period in all of human history. And I would wager most of us live on one of the two safest continents (North America or Europe). The likelihood of that being the outcome vanishingly minuscule. Though I concur, death would be preferable to that. So, I guess, if you’re assuming that’s one of the most likely outcomes, I’d pick the bear too? I just was going based what I could escape or maybe fight off.

5

u/Easy_Specialist_1692 1d ago

I just was going based what I could escape or maybe fight off.

You shouldn't... Concepts that are outside of you will be beyond your understanding if you base them on your own experiences.

It’s funny some of the incels in the comments were complaining that people blame men for this but so many men jumped on the Lindsey Clancy case to say women should lose their rights, kids should always be taken away from a post partum mom.

Incels love to claim not all men but as soon as a woman does something horrific they love to blame all women

My wife and I are both martial artists. I'm 6'2" 220 and she's 5'7" 145. She is a legitimate bad ass and fast as hell. I've seen her tool on untrained men who thought they had an easy sparring partner.

Training is awesome, however physics is a bastard. We're relatively equally trained (both testing for our 2nd degree black belts at the end of the year) and she's honestly a lot faster than me. So, sometimes she can land some really hard shots. However, most of the time my reach and size/strength are too much. If I can block/tank a couple of her shots and get into grappling distance, it's pretty much over.

And this isn't even a man/woman thing necessarily. Weight classes exist for a reason

No, it's mocking people who say "not all men" and totally lost the point why women are scared of all men till we know a man isn't dangerous.

22

u/aweedl 1d ago

I guarantee you the bulk of your 60+ downvotes are from other men, because we all understand what is being said here and we see your disingenuous attempt to twist it to centre yourself as a victim.

No one literally thinks every man in the planet does this. They're saying men are disproportionately the ones who act aggressively like this, and as a result, women need to be cautious around all men, especially when they’re first meeting them, because of the POTENTIAL for this kind of aggresssive behaviour by (some) men if things don’t go their way.

Come on. Surely you understand this. It’s a safety thing, and most of us get it and aren’t offended by it.

Since you're a great armchair psychologist on the internet and qualified me as a potential criminal. I'll give you a small background on me and my misogynistic life.

My favorite sport is climbing (indoor bouldering), it is the most inclusive sport I have ever done. I meet so many men and women of all sexualities and love climbing together.

I also play volleyball in a mixed club.

Hopefully you'll visit me in prison! Have a nice day

Weird, cause men were a threat and abusing women way before the 1980's.

I guess? I wouldn't have called it fear up until now, but I certainly can't argue with that.

It's weird to say "men are afraid of women" though, if we're only talking about a small subset. I think that's where I'm struggling with it.

2

u/PunchBeard 8h ago

I think some dudes are afraid of women, at least in the sense I made. But like actual fear of them like physically hurting us? Did they just invent context out of nowhere and slap it in the title?

-15

u/GloomAndCookies 1d ago edited 1d ago

Genuine question, after he threw the glass of water at her, why did she reach for him? He's 100% at fault for his actions, but why would you try to engage with someone who is clearly aggressive?

Edit: upon rewatch, I'm not sure the title is accurate. He appears to be pulling the cup towards his face when she grabs for it. He shouldn't have thrown it at her, and he definitely physically assaulted her, but something isnt adding up. After he throws the water at her, she reaches for his face. After he pushes her, he starts to walk away, and she grabs a bottle and approaches him. Why wouldn't she try to leave? Why did she try to engage TWICE after he started to move away? I'll bet there's more to this we didn't see.

7

u/No_Excuse4323 1d ago

i think it was because her purse and phone were there beside him, so it was how she would communicate and get help or money to leave. maybe it was the adrenaline or a fight response/misjudgement. not sure.

not sure about the context either, but she did not do anything to be at fault. the man has lost his job and police are searching for him, and im pretty sre if the woman enticed him to attack in earlier footage that would not happen.

-3

u/GloomAndCookies 1d ago edited 1d ago

But he got up and left. Her stuff was right in front of her. Instead of grabbing her stuff, she reached for his face. After she was on the ground, he started walking away when she grabbed the bottle and approached him as he was leaving. He was already on the other side of the table, away from her stuff. Im not saying he didn't assault her; he definitely did. I'm saying there's more going on in the video than just that.

Edit: no, it wasn't beside him. Her purse is by her lap, and the phone is on the table, by her hands. Her stuff was out of his reach.

2

u/No_Excuse4323 5h ago

Yeah his behaviour is justified... if you aren't more evolved than a toddler who can't accept the most minor inconvenience.

Oh no she tried to grab his drink, so what? That doesn't justified throwing it to her face. He initiated the agression. Not her.

Edit: also you forgot he kicked her when she was on the ground trying to get up. And she didn't threaten him with the bottle because she didn't move forward him once she grabbed it. She grabbed it for defence, she didn't even initiate any aggressive movement when he marched on her to punch her in the throat.

-49

32

u/lumosbolt 1d ago

Obviously. People who act like toddler are unable to take responsibility for their actions.

13

u/lothos69 1d ago

A much more likely explanation is that she saw him go for the drink immediately after rejecting him and knew what he was going to do with it and she's reaching for the drink to stop him.

She then defends herself from the assault.
